Wicked the Musical

wicked.jpgAbout a year or so ago, I was looking for a novel to read and came upon a very interesting book by Gregory Maguire. It was called Wicked, and it was a work of fiction that retold the story of The Wizard of Oz from the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the West. Not for children, Maguire weaves a tale of fantasy, love and politics that turns the classic story on it's ear. It's a fantastic tale that will not allow you to ever think of Dorothy, the Tin Woodsman, Glinda or Elpheba (our green heroine from the west) in the same way again.

Late last year, the novel was turned into a live musical production, and it is a hit on Broadway. I bought the Wicked: The Musical Soundtrack, and now the entire family can not wait to see the musical when it tours close to our area! The story has been rewritten somewhat to make it more "family friendly", as well as far more concise than what is presented in the book. Nevertheless, the songs are catchy and the characters are quite engaging.

Pick up a copy of the soundtrack. I'll let you know how the play is once I see it, though it probably won't be until the fall when the production tours Dallas. If you have seen it, please let me know your thoughts!

I bought the soundtrack to Wicked a couple days ago, and thought that Idina Menzel was the best actress on Broadway just by her voice! I thought i would be able to see her preform for my birthday and travel all the way from Georgia to New York to see Wicked on my birthday, but then i found out all but one or two of the cast members had changed, including Idina, and was devistated. I origionally had two dreams. One was to see Idina play Elphaba, and the other, which i still might be able to do, is to actually be Elphaba in the musical Wicked someday.
And Idina, if you're out there, I think you're a WONDERFULL singer and actress and I hope I can see you preform soon.

My sister and I went to see Wicked on April 18. She bought us tickets for my birthday. It was amazing! If you haven't seen it, you should go!! The singing was incredible!! So before you go, it would be better to compare tickets prices, coz the prices are often sky rocked. I used not to do that before, but now I find it interesting idea and it's FREE!!Here is the link:
