What Do I Blog About?

Posted on August 28, 2006 12:29 AM by Joel Comm

One of the fastest ways to get started with a web site is to create a blog. Absolutely anyone can get started with blogging in less than FIVE minutes by setting up a free blog at Blogger.com. Yes, it's free.

Once you get the blog set up, follow their simple instructions for creating your blog content.

And then, the real fun starts...

After you have blogged once or twice, click the link that says "Make Money with Your Blog". You will find a link that allows you to sign up for the Google AdSense contextual advertising program. Since Google owns Blogger, they have integrated the AdSense signup to fast-track your potential online earnings.

The only slowdown is that it takes the AdSense team two to four days to approve your account.

Once you get the hang of blogging, you want to get off the Blogger platform and host a blog on your own domain. I use Moveable Type as my blogging platform of choice, but Wordpress also provides a good solution.

You might ask, "what should I blog about?"

In which case, I will answer your question with a question...

What are you passionate about?

What interests you?

What specialized knowledge do you have?

Each one of us is created with unique gifts, talents, likes and dislikes. Why not start there?

Make a list of at least three things that you are passionate about. Then make a list of at least three things that you are good at, or have specialized knowledge about.

Having trouble with those?

Ask a friend or family member to give you their point of view. What do THEY think you are good at?

This will help you find your choice of topics that would make for good blog entries.

On my blog, I write about a number of things...

Internet marketing, movies, books, my family, our dog, our travels, current events... you name it. Whatever strikes my fancy.

And you can do the same.

I believe everyone has a story to tell, and a blog is the perfect platform for you to begin telling your story.

Make it compelling and other people will want to read it.

And if enough people want to read it, you can monetize your site with AdSense.
