I've been home from Kauai long enough to really begin missing it. The island and resort were so beautiful. It was difficult to come home.
We spent the week at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club in Lihue. It was a top-notch resort with gorgeous surroundings, an enormous swimming pool and a nice beach tucked away in Kalapaki Bay. Palm trees, tropical breezes and the sounds of crashing surf... ah...
Did I mention that it is extremely expensive to visit Kauai? It was without a doubt the priciest six nights of my life. But it was so nice that I didn't really give it much thought. Sometimes you just gotta say what the heck, right?
So what did we do in Kauai?
Besides rest and relax a whole bunch, we rented an SUV for the week so we could come and go as we pleased.
One day we drove to the west side of the island, stopping at the Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific) and passing through numerous small towns.
On another day, we drove around to the north side of the island, enjoying a great day at Tunnels Beach and stopping at some points of interest along the way, including the Guava Kai Plantation.
We scheduled a one-hour helicopter tour of the island as well. It was my first helicopter ride... what a great way to see the island! Will Sqyres helicopter tours provided a fantastic ride for our family. It was something that none of us will ever forget.
Of course, we took in a Luau one evening. It wasn't exactly as I thought it would be, but the atmosphere was great and the food was tasty.
Those were just some of the highlights of our vacation. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Hawaii, you can't go wrong with a trip to Kauai, the Garden Island.
