Twitter Verified My Account

Posted on September 27, 2009 03:39 PM by Joel Comm

A few months back, Twitter announced their Verified accounts program. Essentially, they would put a "Verified" badge on accounts that were deemed to be genuine. This is especially important for people with a high profile, where there are bound to be imposters.

For the past two years, I have had at LEAST seventy (70) or so imposters. Usually, they sign up with a derivative of my name, post my photo on the profile, and proceed to post marketing-related tweets. Of course, the goal is usually to trick people into thinking I am promoting a site or service. The imposter uses an affiliate link and attempts to make coin off my name.

I applied for the Verified badge when Twitter first announced the program, but I've been left waiting for months.

It's been frustrating as I see celebrities coming on Twitter for the first time and receiving a verified badge with less than one thousand followers.

Thanks to @caroline at Twitter, that problem is solved as of today!

I'm not a big celeb --- yet! Have just over 1,000 followers. STILL, I'd like to get verified. What are my chances and where do I go to apply!

In the meantime, life is woo-hoo Awesome!!!

    Hey Joel,
Congrats on getting your profile on Twitter verified. I would have thought they would have processed it much faster. It's not like they don't know who the author of Twitter Power is.

All the best to you and your family.

That would definitely be a cause for celebration!
A lot of people are gonna be thankful that you have a verified twitter account now. I mean after "Twitter power" that shouldn't have been the case. But its all good now for you, right?

    Hi Dear Joel!

Terrible impostors! How could you discover them? I am on twitter to enjoy the friendship of people and sometime they can tell interesting things, but I have to tell you that though sometime I am watching twitter video, I don,t know how they understand their rules, when somebody wants to join to me, down is the instruction, but most of times I login there and nothing can happen.......I am there like a blind hen.....
