Tornado hits downtown Atlanta

Posted on March 15, 2008 12:05 AM by Joel Comm

I'm currently in Atlanta for Matt Bacak's Marketing Madness conference. I'm set to speak to 150 or so people tomorrow.

So Dan Nickerson and I are in our hotel room right next to the airport.

I mean DIRECTLY next to the airport. Our balcony overlooks all the runways, so we've enjoyed the sights and sounds of planes continually taking off and landing.

But as we were coming back from dinner tonight, I noticed lightning in the sky the north.

Turns out there was definitely a storm brewing.

It wasn't long after we returned to the hotel that the rain started coming down.

The lightning was striking VERY close to us and we turned the tv to the weather.

It turns out that the storms to the north and east were much worse, and it wasn't long after that the news reported that a tornado had possibly touched down in downtown Atlanta.

It was reported that the high winds did some serious damage and windows at CNN were blown out.

It's unknown how many people may have been injured at this time.

Several people have emailed me to ask if I am ok. I'm perfectly fine and the tornado didn't get anywhere near the hotel I am staying at.

I guess we'll know more about the damage in the light of day tomorrow...

    You're a lucky Guy Joel.

Must be those Guardian Angels you have sat on your shoulder.

    (Hope you said "Thankyou")

    Pete.

Was just checking the news and it looks really bad down there. They also say another storm is on the way. Looks like the greater Atlanta area is getting the rain it needs but the wind is not invited.

I see that the Georgia Dome has some damage and they had to stop the March Madness basketball games last night.

Joel anytime you can look out the window of your hotel and it shows a sign that says "Fly Delta's Jets" you are too close to the airport.

    Stay safe my friend

    That's good that you're ok :)
