As a follow-up to my previous entry on Mel Gibson's The Passion, their site now has the official movie trailer. Warning! It is quite graphic. It may even leave you in tears. I can't wait to see this movie. Finally, an realistic representation of what Christ went through on the day He died.

counting the days till it's release... loved the preview.
August 12, 2003 11:07 AM
When a "trailer" can leave me crying I've GOT to see the movie.
As far as the anti-semitic concerns, why are we so quick to become defensive about our faults instead of correct them?
ALL races have something to be ashamed of and we should look at each aspect in the light so we can correct them and MOVE ON.
August 12, 2003 07:34 PM
I'm looking foward to seeing the movie and having its DVD.
My catholic religion and my little knowledge of the 12 stations has ALWAYS piqued my interesting in knowing more about the trials and suffering of Jesus Christ
August 12, 2003 09:22 PM
the trailer is very dynamic and presents a passionate image of the final hours of Jesus. i cannot understand the controversy over this film. it is great to see someone take a risk in today's cynical and litigous society to present a story that interprets the final hours of Jesus' life. Jesus' life and final hours on earth has been interpreted and presented in many different formats. i am intrigued by all of them and want to see this one. we all make choices as to what we want to see on the screen. i hope other movie goers will be open-minded to see this film and not take it personally.
August 12, 2003 10:00 PM
When I heard that Mel Gibson was making a movie, and not 'just' any movie, but one on the life of Jesus Christ, I was so excited. After viewing the trailer, I was so touched by it. It is breath taking and I can't wait to see it on the big screen. I'm definately counting the days for its release.
August 13, 2003 01:30 AM
Many critics have already started condemning the movie, especially that it is anti-semitic. How can such a movie, or the story of Christ be that? Since many believers believe it to be historically accurate. This is history, we can't change it even if we want to it. Rabi's and even the Anti-Defemation League have already started to pressure the producers to change it, or not show it altogether. Can we interpret this as being anti-gentile? If we use the same measuring stick haven't the Jews always been anti-gentile? Are the "gentiles" making a big deal of the Jewish folk self-imposed religious segregation? Hypocrisy I tell you. Mel Gibson, dude, go ahead and do your thing. You have our support. DON'T change a single thing about the movie. Don't!!!!!!! We are behind you all the way.
August 13, 2003 10:18 AM
Satan is always working and I truly believe through the showing of this movie that lives will be saved and faiths renewed. I thank God for a person like Mel Gibson not being willing to comprimise for the world. As far as the ADL is concerned they never say anything about movies that deal slavery but as soon as a movie is made about Jesus Christ they have a problem. What about the hate that is still going on in this country? Like in the days that followed the crucifiction of Jesus The Christ, His name will continue to span the land and I will continue to to draw the fish in the sand!
On a side note, I pray that the movie is released with subtitles for those who don't understand Aramaic or Latin.

can't wait to see the movie!
hope more movies of good christian content will come out in the following years to come!
all praise to mel gibson for acknowledging God's call!!
God Bless you all
August 14, 2003 01:08 AM
i praise mr. gibson for overcoming the critcism and continuing on with the film. it really shows how truly passionate he is about jesus' story and christianity. in today's world the truth must be shown and mel is doing that. i pray that this movie effects everyone who sees it in a manner that draws them closer to the gospel. in today's society to many people look for answers to life on earth, but the answers lye with holy spirit....society teaches us "seeing is believing", the spirit teaches us "if we believe, we shall see"...hopefully this film will help many people realize this...i believe and pray that it will...looking forward to the film...god bless all

How can you put Jesus on a movie screen? You're bringing money-lenders into the temple, mixing business with religion. By trivializing Jesus with some half-baked, quasi-historical rendering of the last day of his life, you are not giving Him the respect He deserves. Also, even if the Jews killed Christ, he was a Jew himself, one who claimed to be the Son of God. How can God have a son? God isn't human and there is only One God. Even the Muslims agree with us on that one! The religious leaders of that time were frightened of him because he claimed to be the Messiah and this is a very serious claim, especially considering that many other people had claimed to be Christ (saviours) before Jesus was born. What would the Catholic Church (or any other, for that matter) say if I were to step forward and claim to be the Latest Christ? They would surely denounce me, and if possible, try to get rid of me in some way. This is what happened back then. Jesus shook the establishment, so the people in power (Rome) put him on a cross. Even if Jesus really was God's Son, didn't God want him to be sacrificed for all of our sins? This was part of God's plan, so if the crowd around him was Jewish or Sikh or Buddhist, it would still be all part of His Will. How can you go against the will of God? That is very un-Christian of you all.
August 19, 2003 12:07 AM
just by seeing the trailer already i'm filled with excitement. excitement bescause finally in todays society a movie maker such as Mel Gidbson is willing to put out the truth of Jesus, sure it will receive alot of criticsm because we live in such a secular society. but i believe this will impact many lives christian and non-christian, leave that cinema room changed or not. but the point is to get the message across that Jesus, Son of the Living God (Hebrews 1:1-3), paid the ulitmate death for the whole world. i pray that all christians will be praying for this movie to change lives! Praise Him for doing His works here on earth :)
August 22, 2003 09:14 PM
O.K Phillip, consider yourself denounced! Obviously you are well educated, perhaps too educated. Go Mel Gibson GO..... Once we all see the movie the truth will be known and the truth will set us free, all of us. This movie will bring salvation to many who see it and that salvation will come just in time... Think about it, the seasons are changing rapidly. Phillip, you are smart enough to know that when the sky is red at night tomorrow will be nice and if the sky is red in the morning storms are soon to arrive.... The seasons are changing and with that change biblical phrophesies will come into place. Come Lord Jesus ... COME
August 23, 2003 02:25 AM
omygoodness! i am soo excited about this wonderful movie! i saw the preview and tears started falling . . . i cant wait to see the actual movie . . . yay! i hope no one gets in the way of making this movie because this movie IS the truth that will answer all our unanswered questions and will give people a strike of encouragement. god bless everyone!
August 24, 2003 07:47 AM
Phillip-- Rome didn't put Jesus on the cross. The Jews didn't put Jesus on the cross. Jesus put Jesus on the cross and yes the sacrifice was for all people for all time. All he needed to say was I was just kidding. I'm not the son of God, not equal with God, and he would have gotten off scott free. Watch the movie and ask your self why would he do such an unnecessary thing? humanly speaking. He was either crazy or he was indeed who he said he was. The real question Phillip is now what will you do with him?
August 24, 2003 06:36 PM
God bless you Mel Gibson, I saw the trailor for this movie and tears ran down my face. I can't wait for this to come on big screen, this is the kind of movie that everyone should see. We need to have Faith in this world that is so full of hate. I hope that everyone will go see this movie and maybe it will change our outlook on things.
God Bless Evryone.
August 24, 2003 08:07 PM
It is about time Hollywood got the life of Jesus right. I don't know if the other movies where"bad". I just think they by and large left out the essentuals namely the ugly stuff about the crucifiction. And as far as the movie being anti- sementic I think is very worng. So what if there where jews there. There where Romans as well. So to me to say that the movie is anti- semetic is wrong.God bless Mel Gibson for the movie. It is time that Hollywood set the story straight. To get anything more than then what Mel is trying to say is misinterpreting the whole story.
August 25, 2003 04:11 PM
This trailer has absorbed me! I cannot wait to see this movie! It is unfortunate that there are and will be more cries of anti-semitism but what race hasn't played the villain! Americans, Africans, British, Chinese and Middle Easterns have placed their "villain" roles in history. This is a movie that merely tells a story and nothing else. Take what you will from the story. I hope, if anything, that people come away realizing that a man - forget Jesus being the son of God - sacrificed his life for another. I think in this day and age, we all need to be reminded that there is good in the midst of all the negativity going on right now.
Great job Mel and may God bless you for your work! My only question is why did he depict the devil as female?
August 26, 2003 11:22 PM
Thank you Mel Gibson for using your talent for the Glory of God!
It'll be a sad but TRUE movie!
I hope you keep up your moral convictions throughout the rest of your film career. It's worth it!
We're looking forward to watching this masterpiece. Thank U again!
Loving Blessings from our family...
God Bless You!
August 27, 2003 10:32 AM
I am so looking forward to having this movie come to a cinema near ME! It sounds wonderful and the preview looks amazing.
I'm sorry people are getting defensive about (as someone said previously) HISTORY. It's not an attack, it's a fact based on our believes.
I understand Mel Gibson has taken many precautions to ensure accuracy to scripture. He really is admireable in standing up for his believes and sharing it, as scripture dictates for us to do. Learning that Mel Gibson has personally contributed a considerable amount of money of his own, only makes me want to see THE PASSION more, as it shows commitment to this already incredible work.
May God bless you Mel, help and keep you close through this times and times to come - as you have already seen, there will be many against you for your beliefs. May God help and bless those who are lost and need to see clearly through loving eyes and may this movie touch those who it's intended to touch, stirr positive emotions and change them for the better - because all this is happening for a reason too.
August 27, 2003 12:35 PM
THANK YOU MEL FOR ALLOWING THE LORD TO USE YOU. THIS MOVIE WILL ALLOW SOME TO OPEN THIER HEARTS AND FOR OTHERS IT IT WILL HARDEN THEM. BUT FOR MOST IT WILL OPEN THE DOOR TO NEW WAY OF LIFE, LIFE WITH A PURPOSE. I'VE WATCHED MANY OF YOUR MOVIES, BUT FOR THIS ONE YOU SURELY WILL BE BLESS. THANK YOU FOR THAT BRAVE HEART AND YOUR LOVE FOR CHRIST WHO LIVES IN YOU. MY GOD SHIELD YOU AND PROTECT YOU IN THE DAYS TO COME AND THANK YOU LORD JESUS FOR PICKING THE RIGHT MAN TO DO YOUR WILL. AMEN GOD BLESS YOU MEL
August 29, 2003 10:45 AM
I want to commend Mel Gibson for taking on such an emotionally monumental task. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
In regards to Phillip Shearing, we live in an age of digital and visual communication. Making a movie of Jesus' life and death is essential in bringing His message and trials to the world, in addition to helping those who are despondent in life to regain their faith.
The visual medium of movies has always had the effect of causing people to want to learn more about what they have seen, and this in itself is very important.
As for the controversy on this movie being anti-Semitic, I believe we are looking at yet another example of what I'd like to call "Hearstism". Where one man, or group, wishes to trample another man's dream and voice, because he/they disagree with one's opinion. In this country we have the freedom of speech, it is our right, and no one, man, woman,or group should EVER have the power to take away our voices!
I support Mel Gibson and his voice. His voice that is this spectacular movie!
August 31, 2003 01:53 AM
One can tell by watching the trailer that this is a masterpiece. Exceptional work by Mel and James. As far as the protesters concerns (Jews or Christians). I ask them, what kind of freedom of speech, democraty or freedom of religion you believe in? WHO ARE YOU to dictate what should be Christian and what shouldn't, what should be seen and what shouldn't, what should be believed and what shouldn't. And what an insult to the Christians all over the world to tell them that you are not adequate, or responsible enough to witness graphically the historical facts and the gospel has taught about your faith without becoming violent. What kind of distorsion to historical truth to link Hitler's cruelty to his (if he had any) christian background. And how many Christians have been exterminated in the Nazi camps with their Jewish brothers and sisters? How ironic, that in a society where filth and violence are displayed and tolerated daily under the banner of freedom of expression, a film on Jesus Christ is considered a danger to mankind. If this film won't pass, it would be one of the sadest day of America. Christianity is being attacked. Those who killed the head 2000 years ago are targetting the body today!
August 31, 2003 12:34 PM
Wow! Can't wait to see this picture. To those woried about the controversy, I think it will only peak interest even more.
EVRYONE GO AND SUPPORT THIS MOVIE!
September 2, 2003 01:45 AM
Initially I thought this movie was going to be another cheezy religious movie; but after watching the trailer, it is anything but! I cannot wait until the movie is released here in oz. Also, the idea of the ancient dialogues initially put me off, but now i think that english would have taken the shine off this masterpiece.
As for this movie fuelling anti-semitism, the accusation is ludicrous. It is as stupid as saying that the ww2 movies depicts the germans as brutes. History is history; nobody can change truth.
September 3, 2003 03:29 PM
This wonderful film is another sign that we are in the last days. So much of what we see and experience today is horror and evil, that we get discouraged and forget that God is in control and moving in mighty ways. His heart is that none be lost from the power and the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you Mel for your obedience to the calling of Christ, and allowing Him to use the gifts He gave you to reach His people. My heart and prayer is that through this movie that many would come to a saving personal relationship with Jesus.
September 3, 2003 10:11 PM
MEL GIBSON: MUY BIEN, MUY BIEN GRACIAS
MR.PHILLIP: MUY MAL, VAYA CON DIOS.....
I HOPE THIS MOVIE IS RELEASED IN MEXICO. PEOPLE WILL LOVE IT.
THANK YOU MEL GIBSON
September 3, 2003 11:36 PM
It seems to me that this film is still not graphic enough in portraying what happened to Jesus that day. It would change many people's
outlooks if they realized the hell he went through that day. On a side note, if you believe the Angels were present at the Resurrection, why would they not have been present at the Crucifixion ? And how would they look upon us after this ? Would they someday seek revenge against us ?? Just a thought!
September 5, 2003 12:35 PM
I'm weak in the knees after seeing the trailer... so overwhelmed with emotion I can hardly move. I think people just don't want to know the truth because that would make them responsible. And in this day and age of blaming everyone else except ourselves, that's probably the case. We need to take a look at the log in our own eye before trying to take the speck out of our neighbors.
What an absolutely great way to evangelize. Those of us who are not in the entertainment business can only reach one at at time (if that, for those who don't try at all), but the entire world has the opportunity to see the film. What a great tool! I applaud you Mel Gibson for not compromising your belief in a world living in the flesh.
September 5, 2003 03:30 PM
Mel Gibson and all involved with this movie I say thank you! I can hardly wait to see the movie as the trailer was extremely emotionally moving. The Holy Spirit has guided the production of this film. The timing for the release of the movie is perfect for the lenten season. I believe it is for the conversion of many souls. I trust that God will allow this movie to be seen by all. JMJ pray for us.
September 7, 2003 06:50 AM
Let God,s will be done Mel. Set your face like a flint against those who oppose you,it's actually a SPIRITUAL warfare going on here. But if God be for you, what fool can be against you? By all means, continue the work sticking to the bible.
Joan
September 9, 2003 03:29 PM
God Bless you Mel. It gonna be a gret movie and I hope you'll win an oscar for that.
September 11, 2003 06:29 PM
Thank you Mel for taking on this task.Just by seeing the trailor it brought me to my knees.I pray all the bleesings upon you.Be strong in the Lord, and dont let the enemy get to you.
September 12, 2003 01:36 PM
I am still trying to understand the Jewish community's uproar on the release of the film and the anti-semitic ranting & raving of the Jews killing a Christian. Jesus was a Jew, he wasn't a Christian. The term Christian didn't even exist until years later after Christ's resurrection. The whole scare of the movie portraying the Jews as the bad people is crazy. Outside of the Bible, there are over 30 other historical documents talking about the death and resurrection of Christ. Do they just want to change history and say that the Jews were never involved in Christs death and leave all the blame to the Romans? Please. I sure didn't see such an uproar from Britan or Pakistan when they showed the Ghandi film. The Brits didn't cry foul ball when they showed how they used their imperalism to conquer people in India and the force they used to conquer any rebellions as well as a muslim killing Ghandi in the end. I say to the Jewish community, if you want the Germans to take responsibility for the Holocast, they the Jewish community needs to take responsibility for Christ's death.
September 13, 2003 08:40 AM
When that "TEN COMMANDMENTS" Movie came out I was shocked they put the blame of inslaving the Jews on the Egyptians, Those poor Egyptians they should have stood up for themselves! How can they make those guys look so bad! They should have changed the story for Egypt.
Same with the Passion.......
Wait a minute wasn't Jesus the lineage of David? How much more Jewish can you get? Marty
(Sorry my sarcasm took over.)
September 20, 2003 12:46 AM
Can't wait for this movie. No other movie I've seen has actually portrayed Jesus' suffering to such an extent as Passion is probably going to.
Also, as an Assyrian, I am so exicted to hear this movie's being made primarily in Aramaic. Finally, a Jesus movie that's going to be authentic.
Alaha barikh Mel Gibson!!!
September 22, 2003 11:44 PM
Mel Gibson quietly stares at the Cross a couple of times in the movie, Patriot. It makes a little more sense to me now. There is a very good website devoted to the latest discussion and news about Mel Gibson's upcoming film. For those interested, go to: www.thepassionmovie.tk
September 23, 2003 11:53 AM
As a commisioned minister of the Gospel, I've had the opportunity to read many comments about Mel's new film, and have seen the trailer. The film won't directly save anyone, but the Holy Spirit working through God's word, and the images so powerfully captured on film will, I predict, have a great positive influence on people. Oh yes, the question is still the same today as in the time of Christ. "Who do you say that I am?" Thank you Mel for having the courage to stand and produce a film that cuts to the core, shows the diety of Jesus, and shows us the depth of the Father's love for all of us, while we were yet sinners. Jesus endured all of this for of us, but would have done the same if only one of us were lost. No greater love has any man! May God richly bless Mel Gibson for his efforts, and I pray that the film will be a great witness for Christ's innocent and holy suffering.
September 23, 2003 09:22 PM
I loved the preview. I find the whole controversial thing about belittling Jews to be an abominable. Think about this: when schlinder's list, a movie that captivated the world, hit the screens, you didn't see Germans climbing up the wall! The Jewish community is being absolutely selfish. As Abraham has said, many books are being published that altercates the REAL story of Jesus Christ. WHY? History is History, and it should be kept how it stands. If you think this is unjustified, would you find erasing the memories about the holocaust justified?
I find the movie amazingly put together. I support Mel Gibson 100%. We, the people of christianity support Mr. gibson's audacity. Thank you!
October 5, 2003 05:37 AM
It seems like the people complaining about this film would like to brand the whole of Christianity anti-semitic and have it banned and would if they had half the chance! Such anti-Christianism should be denounced for what it is and I hope the powers-that-be have the sense to see this. I can't wait to see this film and predict that it will be a massive success here in the UK amongst both Christian and non-Christian audiences. I believe the whole world would want to see a realistic, no-holds-barred portrayal of the life of Jesus Christ whether they are believers or not. This was an event that has shaped the entire history of Western civilisation for over 2000 years! Surely the Jews should also realise how Christianity (correctly followed and interpreted) has turned Gentile hearts towards them more than anything else in history and has done much in their favour over the centuries!
October 6, 2003 09:50 AM
I guess I only have this to say: conservatives will always be conservative. If they had half the chance, the probably even wouldn't change their clothes. Ever.
Anyway, I think that this is an honest attempt on Mel Gibson's part to retell a story that indeed took place around two thousand years ago. As a Christian, I think that the 'controversy' that this film is stirring up reflects well on the faithfullness of the film's portrayal of the changes that Jesus wanted to make in Judaism. If I remember right, one of His teachings was to make Judaism more open and more tolerant of those from other faiths. I think that the reaction of most of the (conservative) Jews of his time is pretty much similar to the reactions that the ultra-conservatives who are 'offended' by the movie.
October 9, 2003 07:39 PM
such christian movies are rarely being acted out in hollywood so now that you've done again mel keep it up and may God richly bless you!because you have now been using your talent in the way God wants ,but not with scenes like shedding off some young ladies clothing!all those hollywood actors/actresses should now be changing their minds and goals in acting out worldly movies and start thinking about doing movies that will strengthen a person's christian life and to show someone the real purpose of being in this world and GOD MAY RICHLY BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ,AS JOSHUA HAS SAID "AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE WE WILL SERVE THE LORD." (PS.Maybe your next movie will be "king David" and Ben Affleck will star in it!)
October 10, 2003 11:56 AM
Reading all these comments is enough to make me repent of all my sins. Everytime I sin it kills Jesus. What a relief to realize that He forgives...may I be blessed with forgiveness for others too. Amen.
October 28, 2003 12:20 AM
For everything there is a season........ The season is now for the world to see and know the truth. God gave His only Son and whosoever shall believe in Him shall be saved. Please pray for Mr.Gibson, the movie and a distributor for the film if you want to see it in theaters near you. I pray Mr.Gibson gets to see the posts of support and can feel the strength of our prayers. May the Lord Jesus Christ be exalted and lifted high through this project. Amen!
November 4, 2003 08:54 AM
I finally just saw the trailer for The Passion the other day at a Youth Conference. I was AMAZED to say the least. It had me feeling the pain that Jesus must have felt... Tears flowed freely, and mine weren't the only ones falling... It has to be the first thing that I have ever seen that has made me realise just what the sacrifice was that He has made. The humiliation, the torture, the pain, the betrayal, the sacrifice the Man went through for us. Wow... what an impact this has made on me... and it was just the trailer... I can hardly wait to view the movie... wether in english or not... I don't really care, because to me... the story speaks for itself. Thank God for Mel Gibson for directing this film... Thank God for him being a messenger in one of the most powerful ways. God Bless all.
November 10, 2003 01:03 PM
I am one of the fortunate people who have been able to see the whole film (private showing at Icon offices in Santa Monica)
I have to tell you that this is one of most powerful film experiences I have had. The film is disturbing, beautiful and violent. It leaves one breathless in a way similar to Shindler's List. This is NOT a date movie but one that you will want to see with someone else as it begs for discussion and more. Thanks Mel for helping Hollywood to finally get the story right!
December 8, 2003 05:20 PM
I'm so excited about this film, I can almost taste it. I've been hearing stuff on this film since November of '02 and it's great to see this flick slowly come to fruition. Mel is sure to release an effective piece of work that's likely to endure for generations to come, I just hope that Christian praise sounds as loud as Jewish objection...at least loud enough to discourage future attacks on Christian based entertainment. I myself can yell pretty darn loud but, I can't do it by myself. I would like to encourage any and all Christians (Catholic & Protestant) to unite in an effort to popularize this film in hopes that the Jewish opposers could see that theirs is not the only voice around.
January 3, 2004 11:52 AM
We have been waiting many years for this film, and after reveiwing the trailer, have come to realize that the next few weeks until the release will surly feel like the 2000 years leading up until now! I can feel the passion of this trailer, it's so thick, it's almost something tangable to the bare hands.
I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to Mal Gibson for bringing this to the shelf.
If this film is as accurate about history as has been suggested then nothing negative can be said about the film from critics to religous leaders and the like. History is history gentelman....time to face reality!
January 21, 2004 09:59 PM
This movie is going to change many lives. The Holy Spirit works in wonder ways. Thanks Mel Gibson for going out on a limb to bring the truth to the world.
February 6, 2004 09:27 AM
WOW! First, let's hear it for God Almighty for drawing a truly great Actor as Mel Gibson unto repentance and an open, honest relationship with Jesus Christ! Mel Got Saved! Coooooooool!
Second, I want to give accolades to Mel Gibson for being bold, being strong, for the Lord thy god is with Him!
I live in a small North Texas town, and our church has rented the local theater on 3/3/04 to invite Youth from all over for an evangelistic meeting! Cool huh? I pray that because of this magnificient move by Brother Mel Gibson, many in Hollywood come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior! Amen! bro bill
February 6, 2004 09:45 AM
WAKE UP HOLLYWOOD! Either you've got to believe that this "New Man" Mel Gibson has become is REAL, or that Jesus Christ is a liar! Guess what? We know who the father of lies is...satan!
As John the Baptist would say, "REPENT! FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND!"
Jesus Christ said, "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, AND NO MAN COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT BY ME.." Truer words never spoken before or since!
Today is the day of Salvation! Repent, ask for forgiveness, turn your eyes toward Jesus, call on Him, and Turn your life around...ETERNALLY!
Thanks Mel for just substantiating what the Christians for centuries have been preaching!

I have not seen the movie of Mel Gibsons but im sure it is very moving and may be a stepping stone for some to seek and find out what the Gospel is.
Aside from the movie there may be some things about Gibson concerning his faith that you might not know. Many have said he is a devout Christian. Gibson belongs to a Traditionalist Catholic group that performs the mass in Latin, abstains from meat on Fridays, eschews ecumenism, and other such things that were changed at the Vatican II Council in the 1960s. Gibson built his own Catholic chapel, called Holy Family, near his California home.
When asked by a Protestant interviewer if someone can be saved apart from the Roman Catholic Church, Gibson replied, "There is no salvation for those outside the Church" (The New Yorker, Sept. 15. 2003). This was the official teaching of Rome prior to Vatican II. these "Traditionalists" conduct the mass' in Latin and deny Vatican 2 and any Popes since 1965.
Since he believes that all of us are lost outside the Roman Catholic church, Why are leading evangelicals calling him a devout Christian?
The movie is not based solely on the Bible but also on the visions of Roman Catholic nun-mystics St. Anne Catherine Emmerich and Mary of Agreda.
Pray that Gibson may get saved from this film.

Jesus is Lord!
God Bless you Mel and may the Lord our God always shine on us.
Love your sister is Christ (KB)

I am truly amazed at the level of faith in this and all religions. What has Jesus done for any of you lately? You apply any good thing in your ligfe to his will and any bad thing to your sins. Give me a break. You are GOD!! This was the message of Jesus. Do you really think a book written by MEN deserves the adherence you all apply to it. Do you actually beleive in the big eye in the sky. The messiah in Jewish terms did not mean GOD-MAN. It meant a man who would help lead the people out of the tyranny of the current oppressive nation. Try reading the old testament and relate it to lessons on life, not gospel fact. It is a metaphor. Ughhh!!! Humans are still so ignorant. It's depressing. Jews still also wait for a messiah. There is no need for a Jewish messiah currently. There is no real, imminent threat. WAKE UP YA'LL.
Have a nice day :o)
February 18, 2004 04:42 PM
LOL! Amazed is right. I'm amazed at his nutty theology.
Hey Amazed, you are god? Great... work me a miracle. Actually, you can do better than that. Create a tree from nothing.
Shoot.. that's nothing. Make a planet for me.
You know what? If you are God, how about raising a few people from the dead. Better yet, when YOU die, lets see you resurrect yourself.
Go back and read the history books, friend. The historical Jesus and His account do not jive with your warped theology.
In the meantime, enjoy playing God. I'm sure you can explain it to Him one day. He'll get a kick out of it...

Joel,
The bible was written as a both a historical and metaphorical text. Many of the stories are taken from religions predating Judaiism. Example would be Noah's Ark. That story circulated around many religions of the time. To accept what is written in either book as the direct words of some supreme being requiring your devotion or be smitten is preposeterous. The mere fact that these stories are borrowed or revised eliminates the supreme being angle. That said, of course there is something bigger than just us. But guess what. We are part of it. To simplify creation by saying God created the heavens and the earth in seven days now obey my will heathen is ridiculous. The 7th day of rest was meant to give a day off to people for their toil. The sabbath, invention of the weekend. Do you really think Jesus brought people back from the dead, walked on water, etc. Try studying the history and politics of the time of all the books. They relate to those times. Faith is a beautiful thing. I understand why people need it in their lives. Problem is this religion has and still does cause more problems than it's worth. How many have died and been persecuted in his name? What about the aborigianl people of the world who don't belive in your GOD. Are they to be condemned to hell. The new testament was written several hundred years after Christ. Do you really think it was exact. The simple fact is that life is not that simple. The "we are god" comment simply means we are part of it all. Cells in a large organism. We have the power to make our life good or bad. Have you ever prayed to God for something and it miraculously just happened. Could it be that we create our own destinies through our actions or lack of. I won't be coming back here so no need to respond directly to me. I promised myself long ago I would stop arguing with religious types. You scare me with the whole "we have the monoploy on truth" thing. I have too many people tell me I'll burn in hell for now beliveing in Jesus. I'll take my chances, thanks. I'm sure if Jesus were still around he would be appalled at what has and still happens in his name.
Bye bye Joely....

Sorry amazed, but your theology is severely lacking in any degree of scholarly effort. You ask the same questions that I used to ask. I came to terms with the simple questions years ago and have proceeded to ask the more difficult ones. We must graduate from milk to meat.
Bye bye Amazed. You are welcome back any time.

I saw the movie, wow eveyone I went with had a bunch of questions on it. I hope many people come to accept Christ into their lives through this movie, cause Christ is real, his the Messiah. If people don't believe that they should question themselves why they don't, because Christ fullfills what was prophesized in the Old Testament. I hope that if anyone here doesn't believe in Christ, I hope you will. Christ is the best friend you can have in life. He's helped me through depression, when nothing else could. Also, through the Northridge earthquake, through problems at school and has brough so much happiness in my life.
His the one that God sent for us. I love Jesus.

I always admire Mal Gibson as an actor, I did not realize he was such a serious religious man. This is good for hollywood actors and actresses to be serious about God. Hollywood needs a change for the Good, and Mal Gibson provided it with the Passion of the Christ.
However, I would like to add that back in the 1970's another great story was told about Christ but in a more entertaining way.
How many folks remember
"Jesus Christ SuperStar"?
That really put the message through about the human flaws in all of us.
The truth is Christ was crucified because he refused to yeild to foolishness and stupid demands made upon him for claiming he was the "Son of God". However, he did perform many miricles to many witnesses. He refused to do it to disbelievers, or those who would see his miricles as trickery. For this reason, that he refused to place himself as a "SuperStar", he was nailed to the cross.
Our sin against Christ and against God, and the spirit, is that we constantly require proof of what the son of God said. It is not for us to become entertained by the Lord, for he is not our Jester. Christ came to teach, and it was for man to listen, and think logically.
For instance. Christ really was too kind to some dummies in his teachings, An example is when he said "Yea must be born again, and the old man asked What do I do, crawl back into my mother's womb?" Christ unfortunally never spoke in plain language, but in parables, and it was for the faithful to interpertate them. For this reason we have many branches of Christiany, many ideas of what Christ actually taught.
But in this parable, it is plain to understand Christ was talking about the soul. But since man is so hung up in the material world he can't imagine anything more than crawling back into his mother's womb which of course is impossible. But through death and rebirth, it is possible because the soul lives on and on past the death of the physical body.
If any one on this board is repulsed by blood of the Passion they should understand, Gibson told the story as it was basically, without the song and dancing as Jesus Christ superstar which basically mocked the life of Christ is what lead to his crucifition.
Mockery is a human way of covering up the fact of our lack of understanding.

The Jews nailed Jesus on the cross. If they get a chance again they might nail him on the cross again for preaching that God is for everybody. I am not surprised they are against the movie.
The Jews haven't learnt even after the Holocaust and the experience they have been having since they put Jesus on the cross.

Wow, what a movie. I have never seen such a heart-rending, emotional movie in my entire life. It just takes my breathe away to know that a beautiful man went through so much cruelty and pain for my sins. I love you Lord so much and thank You. Mel Gibson did an extraordinary job and my respect for him has increased tremendously. He has went through so much pressure with the media but he still stood strong and made the best movie in history!! God Bless you Mel Gibson!

Bravo to Mal Gibson for making this movie: "Passion of Christ", we needed someone to make this movie and show the world again this is what happen to Jesus two thounsand years ago.....We see movies all the time what happen to Jews during the second war, the Germans do not act like the Jews do with this movie.I think the Jews are very selfish. However they should not worry about the movie as much as they do, they should worry what they do to the Palestinias every day, which is similar what Hitler did to them some 50 years ago and they repeat it today, one Jew is killed retaliation back for 50 Palestinias, "an eye for an eye","a tooth for a tooth", that is in the old testiment which Jesus stop that to: if someone slaps one side of your face turn to them the other, but the Jews did no believe in Christ, and they cursed themselves and their children when they were screaming "Crucify him, Crucify him".I do not blame the Jews of today for what the Jews of that time did to Jesus, but the todays Jews should understand this is what the Christianity is and believes, this is History that happened 2 thousand years ago and that should be tought for the years to come. It is about Jesus, a Theanthropos who did nothing bad but instead he spoke good and did good, they did not believe in him then and still they do not believe in him today, and we all know that at the eld he forgave them. I admire Gibson for doing this movie, May God Bless him and his family.
Happy Easter Mal, and may the resurrection light this weekend enters to all the homes and may all the people see the Light..Jusus.............

I wached the movie the Passion of Christ and is it is a powerful movie. Some might state that the movie is really violent and bloody when in reality this is what jesus christ went trough. and probably even worse. I loved the movie I just hope that this movie will opean people eyes to realize. What Jesus when through. For us and because of us. But some people just dont see it that way. This movie retells the life of Jesus Christ and what he went through he died because of us for us. I am sorry for those who don't belive in him and alow him to be apart of your lives when in reality he gave his life for you all!!!.
