I know guys like you, Yanik Silver and a handful of other's offer quality info, but the scammers often use the same copy automation techinques you promote! I know I've wasted money in the past 6 months learning about selling on-line - so some 'Golden Rules' would be great!

I have been looking into all these websites saying make (millions etc ) for ages now - its all about affiliates etc -

there needs to be a site developed that lets people have insight into ideas and not have to pay a penny until its up and running then rather than an initial payment upfront then they pay an agreed comission to the person who had the idea.

so in theory the new person still gives the affiliate money but once they start making money them selves

  22. Donald Saunders Says:

You don't really need to ask this question because you already know the answer. Stick to your field of expertise which has made you one of the most respected figures on the Internet when it come to building Adsense sites.

Your biggest problem at the moment is that you're starting to act and sound just like all the other so-called Internet 'gurus' and it's hurting your credibility.

Stop telling people about your beautiful new house and all the money you're making and get back to concentrating on your customers. Above all else start looking at your own support mail and don't simply leave the job to somebody else and ignore your customers.

Greetings, Joel, hope you are doing good. Well,I will say that as we grow in knowledge of internet marketing, and become aware of its awesome potentials mostly through the input of established practitioners like you, our needs also changes. It is not a constant. For example, my response to this question a month ago is not what I will say now.

My number one need now is to be guided to put together, successfully , a very, clearly defined, and profitable income programme, by someone who has already achieved the level of success I am aspiring to.

    Joel,

My question of you is: what are the elements of the software applications package needed to construct an on-line business and where best to get them. That is: what best website publishing app, email responder system, money collecting merchant payment system etc. The gurus keep telling us "what to do" . . . but none have given us the elementary "this is the system of applications you need to have to be able to best operate".

  46. Bruce Williamson Says:

That's a tough question, as a newbie, there is so much to learn, and so many variables and ways to earn income.

    So, here's my question...

If you were starting all over, with just a little money to get you going. How would you decipher all the information on making money online? and what strategy would you go with?

  47. Cal Luchuck Says:

I am new to this website, blog, adsense business. I purchased your adsense package but I really don't understand what a blog is? or what a adsense is? For that matter How do you put a website up from scratch, the basics? I am hoping your CD package that is coming will answer that one. Your adsense package does not have any written instructions such as where to start etc.
I have always paid people to make our company sites and I realize they really did not know what they were doing. But at the moment this is all over my head. So my advise is please keep it simple.
    Thanks

I'm serious about online marketing. I'm very aware it takes time to build a quality long lasting white hat business online.

I realize that a lot of people are not really serious about online marketing. Unfortunately these people fall prey to buying a lot of information or software they will never use, especially if it promises get rich quick and no work. And there are online marketers who know this reality has large numbers and will glady take these people's money.

I'm painfully aware a serious new person entering into the IM marketing field has a sharp learning curve to overcome by watching out for so called guru internet marketers seeking out the desperate newbies to buy their latest new product or ebook.

You see, I'm looking for straight forward solid foundational marketing information that is not a bunch of BS, or the latest fluff and newly launched clickbank marketing hype that has a squeeze page that looks a certain way with a price that is something 7 bucks which promises it is the best technique or guarded secret guareented to bring success!

I don't need to see rehashed information or someone's clickbank receipts from sales in so many hours and days or easily faked testimonials.
I want solid common sense IM information that I can sink my teeth into.

Internet Marketing to wanna be Internet Marketers has developed a reputation for being full of scam artists and wanna be authorities that many are becoming IM savvy and somewhat negative towards all the fake promises, squeeze page verbage and Opt-In lists!

Because technology is moving at such a fast pace and success online can be accomplished in many ways there is a serious need for solid back to basics information that seperates the facts from fiction!

Some who have been in IM for a while might be put off by an influx of new people seriously interested in online marketing, but the truth is people are entering into online marketing with different levels of experience.

Someone...somewhere will have to step up to plate and meet the diverse demands.

    Hi,
How about some info on research into what the average internet surfer/user's mindset is and how to best take advantage of that mindset.Stuff like: why are they sitting in front of their computers surfing hour after hour? What are they really seeking? What's the first thing that catches their eye on a website? Do they usually find what they started out looking for or do they just accidently discover interesting pertinent sites most of the time?
Anything that tells the website owner how to take advantage of the way people actually experience the web would be a GREAT help. Not only do we need to know how to specifically optimize a site for its main topic, but it would also be good to know how to generalize it enough so you can get more of that accidential traffic.

  73. Tom Says:

How to create a consistent income online and not just through one-off affiliate sales or one-off product launches?

There's so much hype online nowadays with everyone trying to sell the Next Marketing Holy Grail that it's difficult to separate the legitimate offers from the fluff.

Everyone is trying to sell their $4997 mentoring programs or software; but surely there must be a better way?

    Good afternoon Joel !
Yes, I the old man - me 63 years. I live in Ukraine.
First I did not trust in such money, but
Communicating with you and with your colleagues on the Internet (more truly receiving mountains of dispatches from you) I have believed in it.
    But became even worse!
Now I hear a smell of money but I do not know as it to make.
The reasons for it two: I do not know English language and there is no necessary knowledge of a computer, programs, creations of sites, etc.
If I can translate the text by means of the dictionary audio and video I can not translate and they remain for me inaccessible!!!!!!!
And in general many thanks for a science (which that I already start to think).
    Yours faithfully, Valery.
PS. How my English (with the dictionary)?

  77. Terri Says:

How about how to sell actual hard goods to surfers instead of always ebooks. :-)

Maybe this is alittle far fetched considering most all of the "gurus" target webmasters.
I also second this " how to guideline basics of setting up sites
and with adsense. Maybe some affiliate basics and then some how to for traffic. The questions could be taken care of within the scope this. There are many people searching and just need to get another little piece of the puzzle to connect."

  78. Jesucita Says:

I'm glad you asked how you can better serve your clients. At least you've got a soul. Most Internet marketers don't have it. They only see $$$ signs on their clients--front page, middle page, back end. They have unlimited access to our emails, make us part from our money even for junks, and lead us into buying temptations. In return, what do we get? A bouncing email or a blah blah blah response that the guru is very busy to answer even for a simple query or a thank you note for a nice blog. Although I am still a staunch defender of Internet marketing (despite its ills)as you can see in my squidoo lens, may I suggest that we put back Service with a capital "S" into the language of online business?

  79. Joseph G. Dion Says:

Never give up on your dreams. Having confindence in my own abilities to decide between my wants and needs has become a problem. How to focus, as a recent retiree I spend too much time on this box, which is not paying for it's keep.

Free is never free, lately, the email you put down go to a squeeze page w/ promotes nothing but non-sense. How do you focus????

  80. Jeff Says:

We're always being told to find a niche. Well, what I'd like to do is sell several products as an affiliate through Clickbank. My question to you is how do I set up an opt-in site to cover several products instead of just one niche product, or do I need a seperate website for each product I'm trying to sell.

    Thanks

I have to say that you should never quite because you may just loss it all to the next guy so keep going it will work.

So here is what I and many others will like to know. Joel How do you get started for free and make money so that you can put that money back into the business?

I think I have it figured but need to hear it from you.

  85. William Bowie Says:

All of the e-mails contain a sales pitch and very little else. It would be a lot easier to buy more of your or anyone elses products if I was making some money from the web. When is there going to be some real teaching and less "buy this next item and you will be on your way to buying the next item I suggest you buy"?

    Sir,
What if I spread the adsense idea by mouth and ask my friends in the same geographic location (e.g. the city of Calcutta, India) to visit my site. If they click for a week regularly from either their own pc or nearest cybercafe to my site, what will happen? Will Google consider those clicks as fraud and delete my account.

  91. K Harrison Says:

    Hi Joel,

I have only recently become interested in internet marketing and publishing.
After reading all the comments here I agree with Peg the most. It does feel like being spammed by other marketers. A lot. The first time I saw your name you had sent out an email about Bookwise (have no idea how my name got on your list), and I read your bio which of course raised your credibility. I sent you an email and you replied. I was impressed and even put a 'Joel Comm' folder next to the inbox. Gradually other names became familiar. Yanik Silver, Jim Daniels, John Reese, Mike Filsaime, etc. I wanted to learn this business, be part of it, and tried to stay open-minded about what was being presented to me. And of course I started buying products I felt would help me learn.
The next thing I know, you guys are sending me the exact same emails, just with different signatures at the end. All the squeeze pages with the same red and yellow areas, endless paypal payout lists, the price is going up, the offer ends today, blah blah blah. One day the excitement is all about Adsense, and while I am still even thinking about Adsense, the next day it's time to be bombarded about The Little Black Book or the Big Yellow Book or Profit-whatever. Just to see what sticks. This doesn't seem to embarass anyone. : )
Yesterday for the first time I received an email that linked to something of value. What I read helped me see what the first steps actually, truly, need to be. Duh. And it was presented in an informative, helpful way. Believe me, I am going to investigate it further, because I was respected and not spammed or scammed.
The rest of anything helpful I have figured out on my own with a lot of investigating, not from the email ads.
In a long-winded way my question is why can't the successful marketers try to do business with newer marketers respectfully? (I know, because squeeze pages have been proven to work on selling!!!) When I (a newbie) get these emails it is clear neither I nor what I may have to offer means anything to the big guys; they have the numbers; only a tiny percentage of new people make it. I am just being spammed.
We may be inexperienced in internet marketing but not idiots. If I had received instructions on how to function in an operating room the same way this business is slopped out in confusing chunks, for Pete's Sake! None of us would be happy about that (and I never say Pete's Sake). :p
Over time, for me, some things in this business are easier, some are not, and it seems internet marketing is just survival of the fittest; most people will run out of money after buying a lot of things they don't know how to incorporate into a business and they will be forced out financially. You millionaires worked for your success and deserve it. Instead of random selling, it would be great if ethics came into play and a real education could be obtained. A lot of people would be content with a 5-figure income and it is attainable with sensible learning, not being oversold on products coming in from all directions that are not cohesive.
Telling someone A. Study these keywords B. Open accounts at Google, Yahoo and MSN. C. Split-test your ads, drop your bids, lather, rinse, repeat - is NOT teaching a business!!! People who bought this product are sweating big-time at this point. And why not?
I do appreciate that you are asking what people want; does any of my little rant make sense? The Internet is still pretty young, it is changing all the time. We could lose some of this free-for-all junk. (sigh.)
I think I'm done. Thanks for the time. And wouldn't it be kinder to tell the people who "need to make money right now" that they ...well, I want to see what you will say.

  94. Monique Says:

When I first started adsense I intended to at least make $20-$50 a day. Although, I have only made $21 since September 2006. I really desire to make more money than that. Please give me some advice.

  95. Steve Ward Says:

thx a lot joel for all the info you have given us in the past i have not had too much time to look over everthing.

now the one question i would ask is how does one build a automatic money system that works 24/7/365 days a year. only requires me to work say 4 hours a week but those 4 hours would be improveing the system to make more money better.

  96. jeff Says:

Joel, I am trying to figure out how to stay motivated building adsense pages. One month you do awesome and then the next month it's just really lagging behind. For example this month (May) I might not even break the $100 mark, Where as the month of March I did awesome. So seeing that this month has just been horrible for me I just can't seem to stay motivated to continue to build more pages. I would love to have a steady income of about 500 month and that's it. What else does it take to reach that goal? It seems like it would be easy to just continue to build more pages , but that's not what I want to do. I would love to have fewer pages and more traffic. Thanks for your help.

  97. Bruce Says:

    Joel,

It seems to me that the majority of writers fall into two catagories. Those just starting out and are lost and confused. And those who have broke the newbie code and are now seeing help in improving their bottom line.

Being from the former group, I am seeing the paint by number type of help. I an the proud owner of a domain name, empty web site and a folder crammed full of hopefully saleable e-books and "making money on the web" how to manuals. I have books on how to build your list but I don't have a list to build. Confused about articles, newletters, blogs, adsense, clickthrough, OTO, Web 2.0 ( guru's say adsense is dead and Web 2.0 is the new sheriff), video, audio, squeeze pages, landing pages, hovering stuff, viral stuff, safe lists, JV, click bank and the list goes on.

Sorta know what they mean but lost as to how and when to use any or all.

Anyway, thanks for asking the question. Hope you find your answer. So do I.

  101. Larry Says:

I know this has been asked before, but my question would be what is the best way to create adsense websites. I'm really not stupid, but I just can't get the hang of FTP, and uploading to a website. I have read many articles on this subject, but for some reason I do what I try to learn but I feel there is something being left out.

Thank you for asking for our questions. Maybe I will learn something from those others asking questions too.

I just want "one" source where I can go to to get the latest and only info I need to run a business online. I don't want to have to read a zillion emails everyday with all the latest hype telling me I need this product. I just want someone who has reviewed the product tell me if it is needed.

I'm a 75-year-old beginner living on Soc. Sec. (only) with my husband, and haven't yet made money online. I'd like to have a step-by-step plan of making money online: step 1, do this; step 2, do that, etc., etc. A step-by-step plan with some handholding would be nice, also. Also, I understand it's not wise to do pay-per-click until you start making money online (we can't even afford pay-per-click), so, what's one good way to start making money online without putting out a lot of money to start (like buying ebooks, etc.)? Thanks, Joel, for any help you can give me.

  106. John Kelly Says:

Evidently I'm a little more "thick" than others, but I just don't seem to 'get' the base, novice, step-by-step, on how to create a list (big, small, whatever).

    The development of a
'How to develop a list for dummies'
e-book that focuses on the tools a normal person has at hand if they have internet connectivity.
(I-net connection, MSPaint or equivalent, Wordpad, notepad, or equivalent and 1 product to sell.)

The ONLY cost over their own connectivity would be the cost of the e-book and time.

Hold my hand, walk with me and show me how. I need visual help but it can't cost me an arm and a leg. Thanks

  108. Kay Says:

    Hi Joel,
After reading almost all the postings for this question, it's clear many of us are NOT looking for more content. We are looking for the step by step guidance needed to create real and sustainable online income, starting with very little technical skill, and small budgets.
PLEASE do what you can to become part of the solution, not another guru who means well, but is actually selling hope rather than results-producing services & products. We need implementation skills and resources which allow us to outsource what we can and make a beginning on our own as we build income. Thank you!

  113. James Henderson Says:

    Joel

What is the best method for finding (1) keywords on which to structure a niche Adsense website and (2) write the content?

    The challenge we face:

    1. We are told by Matt Cutts from Google that trying to mirror the list in Google's keyword suggestion tool will definitely be seen by Google as being unoriginal and not bringing anything new to the internet. Fair enough, so I won't use it for structure.

    2. I used to look on the Overture suggestion tool for words that had over 5000 searches a month in my niche, and then write content based on the words that were a bit lower down the list. (To avoid too much competition)

But now we are told that the Overture keyword tool is dying & unreliable. So I have looked for an alternative such as Wordtracker, or Keyword Elite but discover that they and other services virtually all seem to use the Overture suggestion tool as well.

I looked at Theme Zoom but that is an impossibly complex thing to use designed by geeks for geeks, so ... I checked out Keyword Domination, Adwords Accelerator, Cash Keywords, Good Keywords but all seem to produce results that are completely different. They can't all be correct, so what to do?

I have even used Private Label content and purchased templates full of content, but it is all squashed by Google as duplicate content. Yes there are tools made by well-intentioned folks like Jason Potash to help 'borrow' and reconstitute / rewrite other people' content, but that is a poor substitute for original content.

So I now plan to write my own content to avoid the dupicate content filters at Google. But how do I get the right keywords to (1) structure the website and (2) create the page content?

    James Henderson.

It's great joel put up this post and it's great to see all the comments!

Folks must realize something. Doing an online business requires hard work and dedication, certainly not this/that "super product".

If you are not willing to put in the work to learn about putting up websites, then I don't see how I would even buy your IM product.

    Come on! Wise up!

Today's IM is like the Gold Rush of the 1800s. Who made all the money? Certainly not the gold miners but Levi Strauss and all those guys selling shovels etc.

I have been selling physical goods over 5 yrs now (I'm in malaysia) and I sell all over the world. I did everything myself (from web creation, adsense etc). Believe me, all this takes effort and hard work.

All you guys duped into buying ebooks after ebooks are looking for the easy way out.

And like all pyramid schemes, chain letters and even lottery tickets, your greed (for money for the least amount of work put in) will be fully exploited.

Wise up. Stop buying ebooks and start doing the real work.

  132. Jack Says:

As I read the postings above I am a little sadden by the comments. So many people struggling to find a foothold in the digital commerce area and unfortunately most are doomed to fail. Not because they are not sincere or have the desire or motivation. Most just lack the ability, whether marketing wise or technical
wise to succeed in a some what complicated field.
I almost compare it to the
sick people who use to seek
miracle cures from preachers like Oral Roberts
years ago on the radio and
later on TV. They would faithfully send in their little checks for a healing
offering that they couldn't really afford to do.
Fast forward 40 years and we have the ebook, eprograms gurus doing the
    same thing.
Joel you are much better than most, but not completely
    spotless in these endeavors.
Some would say " buyers be ware" Some would say theres " one born every
minute" or " a fool and his money or soon parted.
I would like to see some come to the fore and say in their ad. " there is no such thing as a free lunch"
" not every one you will succeed" or I doubt if I can teach you how to make a thousand a day,(that realistically is only going to happen to ecommerce marketeers) but if you follow my step by step program I think you could make 50 to 100 dollars a day. That to me would be a course that most people would buy! I am probably
suggesting a non starter here but it certainly would
be a breath of fresh air to
see some one with the moxie
    to try this.
Maybe you should get one of your junior JV s to give
this a go. Do it under a
    another name and charge $39.
for it with a full money back guarantee on it. You
    might be pleasantly surprised
    It might be very successful!
Thanks for letting me speak my piece. I hope this post is not like dropping a pebble down a deep well! Thanks! Jack

PS I hope some one can format this, it wandered all over the page

  133. Laura Says:

It seems after reading most of the posts here, the writing is on the wall.

Internet marketing newbies are not going to get quality information or solid training without paying for it. The newest internet marketing Guru trend is high dollar monthly memberships, clubs, forums and the like. So buyers beware.

The saying is true, don't expect something of quality for nothing. Why would the smart Guru or Internet expert want to give away all their best marketing secrets to the masses. Wake-up, it's not gonna happen!

Why would an internet marketer want to teach other people how to be their direct internet marketing competitors? Wake up and smell the coffee, people.:^)

All internet marketing sales pitch pages come with a disclaimer displayed somewhere on the page. Be sure to read them, before you impulse buy. Let those words which are there for legal purposes sink in.

If you are serious about entering into internet marketing, then do yourself a favor and do a serious reality check. No serious buisness can be started without some type of investment up front.

What I would like to see from honest internet experts who want to have an honest buisness geared to help serious people willing to learn is solid beginning basics that will help people build a buisness model(a plan)with honest start up costs and goals to work towards. This type of plan is to help people reach the best possible scenerio for internet marketing success that is possible for anyone who puts in an honest day's work, whether part time for extra income or full time as the means for a living.

Once the beginning expenses and necessary skills are fully disclosed, and a plan for time well spent is made realistically clear, I believe most people will have a clear picture of whether internet marketing is truly for them before they go out spinning their wheels unecessarily spending thousands of dollars in many cases to scammers who are willing to rake it in, while the disclaimer protects their million dollar business.

I'm wondering who these honest internet experts with high values, morals and ethics will be? :0)

Do it with the resources of a newbie, i.e. purchase new software, no linking from his existing websites, but with the expertise of his experience, i.e. choosing the right niche, spending the money the most intelligently for paid links or traffic or whatever.

    Hello,

Today's Opt-In email suggestions and freebies is exactly what the most recent blog complaints is all about.

Who is reading these blogs in the management anyway?

Another software program, another quest for 5 star votes for a reality show... and for those of us who respond, download even something free to us, is still earning someone a $.50 commission per free download and even more commission if we impulse buy the latest recommended product.

AND who is saying today they are giving us something for nothing ???

Who cares if it is of real value to us or not. Another beach scene with the disclaimer at the very beginning of the sales pitch.

For me, it's the principal behind how these internet marketing opt-in list schemes are run that is starting to make me sick to my stomach.

I'm not interested in voting 5 stars right now for anyone, sorry. To think that a marketer cares anything about their opt-in list other than $$$$$ or fame for themselves is dreaming.

It's all about selling to the opt-in list of dummies!

I'll fail at internet marketing because I hate doing this type of marketing to people.

Another live and learn IM lesson I suppose :^(

    Very discouraged, today.

    There are opportunities in
    the internet world..
By far, one of the most
profitable method is selling your e-book.
Write an e-book and sell it
on the internet. U name the
    price. What topic? It can
be created out of your interests and hobbies.
Set up a website and blog for free.
    Website:-
    www.bravenet.com
    Blog:-
    www.blogger.com
    Marketing & promotion is
    very important. Add your
    websites to various search
engines. Have Google Adsense to get extra
income. When you first starts out, its not easy
    as 1-2-3. U still requires
    hard work, money later.
    It's not magic, it's your
    hard work. On the internet,
u have seen so many books
    on how to.... Easy. Just
a how to book... can make
    you money... Oops.. did i
    say it out?

    To your success, Angela

Hello Joel, my question is what someone referred to as "nuts and bolts". I really dont get the best as a newbie in adsense stuff. The point is that, personally i need stuffs that can get me going, from scratch kind of stuff. Please, try and relate to us "on the spot" kind of information. Thanks for your utmost concern.

  145. PHIL RICHARDSON Says:

I don't know anything at all. I need to know how to open a website, what to sell on the website, & how to sell on the website ?

  146. Syed Yousuf Ali Says:

Does not have any website of my own, do not have any thing to sell, how I can earn money as I do not have money as well?

  147. Alexander Says:

    Hello!

I would like to know some tips for adsense system. And, if it possible, for Adsense Code.

    Thanks!

  148. Jialiang Says:

I new to Adsense. I have "accidentally" clicks a few times on my own adsense ads.

    7 clicks to be exact.

Although my adsense account hasn't been suspended, but I worried that it may be suspended in future. Since there's no traffic to my blog.It will be easily detected by them.

I don't want to end my adsense career so soon.

Should I email the Adsense Team and tell them about it, hopefully that they just removed the 7 clicks but can still let me retain the account

or should I kept quiet about it and hopefully nothing happens?

    What should I do?

  149. Lawrence Says:

I know you listen to everybody who ask you questions b'cos you want to help p'ple make money online. But you do not put into consideration those from Africa, especially Nigeria. Is it b.cos of demonisation of Nigera as a haven for scammers?
There are equally honest and hard working ones who refuse to "bow down to baal". Many do not have the luxury of getting online on a daily basis. How do you put those genuine ones in the matrix of income generation on the internet?
Look at the date that this was posted, I am just getting online today. I do hope I am not taking you back in your response to what others might have posted on your blog. There are myriads of problem confronting an average Nigerian, but the bottomline is poverty.
so, like many who had ask, how do one generate income online without oveestressing oneself financially at the entry point?

  150. Karim Says:

    Yoh my friend Joel!

    One Terrible Question (lol):
How to cover professional content when you are just a simple man, example: I'm not a doctor, and I want to cover mesothelioma cancer topics (creating good informative articles that really help people.)

Yes I've done a sizable research and I gathered tons of info, BUT! I'd be so pleased if you give us the basics that can help anyone to avoïd "killer" mistakes, essentially when you're adressing very special category of folks.
    Thanks a lot,

    Your friend.

  151. Linda Says:

Okay, I bought your package at never work again because I identified with your "Even my mom can do it". My kids are your age. Now what I need is SIMPLE step 1, step 2 step 3 guidlines starting from the beginning on setting up the website/blog. (I ahve 2 websites for different businesses - can these be used and adapted. They don't have much traffic right now.) Where do I go from there - what next. I am depending on you as Harv's "person" for this.

    Linda
