The Map Game

Posted on March 10, 2006 11:27 PM by Joel Comm

I was flying at 30,000 feet, gazing out at the horizon and the cities below. I was somewhere between Raleigh and Memphis, but I wasn't sure where. I wondered exactly what city I was looking down upon from so high in the sky, and I thought of my recent dabbling with Google Earth.

If you haven't used Google Earth yet, you are missing out on an extremely cool application that allows you to soar across the globe via your PC, zooming in and out on countries, states, cities, landmarks and your own home, courtesy of US Geological Survey satellite photography.

Anyhow, as I attempted to figure out what city I was looking at, I had an idea...

I began writing down ideas for The Map Game.

Basically, The Map Game would provide the player with a satellite image of a U.S. city, and the player would have to select the correct city name from a multiple choice list.

It is barely one month later and the game is now a reality! We've put 100 major U.S. cities into the database and created three skill levels at which the game can be played.

Think you have got the stuff to play The Map Game? Give it a try for free and test your map and city recognition skills. Everything looks a little different from so high in the sky!
