The Insanity Continues

The schizophrenic thinking of our increasingly sick culture continues unabated. Check out this story from Texas.

Teen Gets Life Sentence For Helping Girlfriend End Pregnancy 19-Year-Old Stepped On Stomach While Girl Punched Self

LUFKIN, Texas -- A 19-year-old East Texas man faces a life prison sentence for causing his teenage girlfriend to miscarry twins, even though she wanted to end the pregnancy.

Gerardo Flores was accused of causing the miscarriage by stepping on his girlfriend's stomach. He was prosecuted under the state's new fetal protection law.

Erica Basoria acknowledged asking Flores to help end her pregnancy. But the 17-year-old can't be prosecuted because of her legal right to abortion.

The defense contended that Basoria punched herself while Flores was stepping on her, making it impossible to tell who killed the twins.

The jury reached a verdict after deliberating four hours. Because prosecutors declined to seek the death penalty in the case, Flores received the automatic life sentence.

This moron killed his twins and gets life in prison. But since the idiotic woman has the "right to choose", she receives no penalty.

It is beyond belief...

I think what's most sad is that this couple felt that they had no better options when it came time to act upon their decision to terminate the pregnancy, actually. What a tragic situation.

  2. Joel Says:

It is tremendously sad. But surely they know they abortion is legal in this country. For now...

Whoa there, Mayor! "moron" -- "idiotic woman"??? That's some pretty strong language!

This "moron" was only 19 (a mere 6 years older than a young man you know quite well); and his "idiotic" girlfriend was only 17. I'm not excusing their behavior by any means, but come on!

While this 19 year old "man" was trying to figure out what to do about this unplanned and apparently ill-timed pregnancy, where was the encouragement in our society to persuade him to allow his children to live? Do we not bear some responsibility in this tragedy? (God, forgive us for the sins of our country!)

And frankly, you should know enough by now to know that even though the girl received no legal penalty, she will have to live with the consequences of this act the rest of her life.

I'm just thinking what a terrible, senseless waste.... How many lives were devastated by this one act?

Abortion hurts, people.... Whether in a clinic, a hospital or a backyard, abortion hurts.

  4. Joel Says:

Darn.. she's reading my blog. Guess I'd better shape up!

(I still think he is an idiot...)

Ok. Now I have briefly combed through your site and have discovered you are the average, white middle to upper classes male with conservative views on many topics. But come on, let us get hypothetical: what would have happened if the man wouldn't have killed the twins. First of all, they ARE twins, I am not sure if you have ever seen a young mother with one child, much less two, but I can tell you. Most likely through some heartache and pain, she will reluctantly be let back in by her parents, who are upset and would like to help their daughter out a bit due to pity. So, she is living at her house and her mom is helping out with the kids while she works part time at the local cornerstore getting enough money to help the babies live, because that is what a good mother does, right? Now the boyfriend also works, and while a large amount of males in this situation would leave, or be unfaithful, since it would be rather dull because she is constantly caring for her children, let us have an exception. The boy works full time and saves up for a few months rent in a low income neighborhood, in a 2 bedroom apartment complex. They move in once the girl turns 18, she stays home to tend to the babies, the man works full time at a slave labor industrial job and it pays, but for 4 people, it is just enough to get by. Now let's fastforward: 5 years later. The mom stays call during the day, and is thankful they are soon going to be able to go to school, but once she tucks them in she goes into the bathroom and munches on some vikadin, has a drink or two, and watches as her husband comes home from working third shift. She yells at him, it is a senseless arguement and both of them are worn out, one of the children wakes up and starts crying hysterically. The man breaks down and pushes his wife, the boy runs at his dad to hold him back but the dad pushes him away too, then storms out for a drink at the pub. The next day they get a notice for an eviction because neighbors are complaining about noise, from their many arguements. The woman asks her parents if she can move in, yes, but without the man. She knows she needs him because she can't get a job anywhere but the grocery store, on account as she doens't have her diploma. But she acts on a whim, moves back in, her boyfriend leaves. She is still dependant on pills, on a night she gets in an arguement with her dad while she is a couple of pills away from convulsion, he calls the cops, she is put in rehab, she shows violent behavior, she is put in an institution for 6 months, her parents get full custody. they won't let her move back in when she gets out, she commits suicide.

10 years later, the grandparents pass away of old age, the kids are now sent to a foster home.

now i know this is a rather extreme situation, but it is reality for some, hell my own mother lived through almost the same thing, it is hell. Abortion in the long run isn't a bad thing, it is just destroying the kids that will soon be corrupted by neglegant, abusive, or unstable parents.

  6. Robert Says:

Very interesting points, Ethan. I like the fact that you are willing to try to see and tell the other dark side of the story, the story so many well meaning people refuse to see because they are dead set against the idea of abortion. I bet you there are many Conservatives out there who have never had to live through such a tough situation, because their Mommy and Daddy were there to scape them out of every tough stuation they got in. Unfortunately, in America, money talks and BS walks - which is to say that many could never even contemplate what it is like to live poor, the horror and hell that is poverty. Which is worse, "murdering" a child before birth, or letting society "murder" that same child through the creulty of poverty? I cannot answer that question, as it is a personal choice dependent on the circumstances of the people involved. Many say abortion is a crime, but I say - isn't letting children die of neglect, abuse, and poverty while big shot bankers, lawyer, and corporate execs drive BMW's and make their life's goal wasting money and bashing Liberals a crime too? Hmmmm.... something to think about.....

  7. Joel Says:

Wow, it is logic like this (or the lack of it) that makes me scratch my head in absolute wonder.

If you don't know the difference between ending a life through murder and someone living in poverty, there is no reasoning. Please don't ever run for a position that puts you in power.

But the great irony is that while you don't know how to pass judgment on so great a thing as murder, you are incredibly cavalier with your judgment of those who drive BMWs and "waste" money.

See, THIS is the problem with liberals. They accuse people of one thing while doing the very same thing. The liberal hypocrisy exposed once more.

    Joel

P.S. - bashing liberal thinking is NOT a crime. Unless you live in a communist country...

  8. Robert Says:

And again you fail to see what in many ways is a good point. Many of the children that grow up in poverty would RATHER BE DEAD than live in those circumstances. Sometimes, the people who have abortions are not trying to "commit crimes" and destroy lives. Sometimes they are trying to do the nest thing they possibly can - to NOT bring a child into a world where he/she will be neglected, abused, raped, starved, and other kinds of cruel torture. Sometimes these kids would rather commit suicide than live in such a world. It is a shame an an atrocity. Are there people who have abortions that could care less about the child and are only selfish - YES. Just as there are rich people who actually DO care about their families and spoil their kids with money out of love. What I am talking about is the group of people on either end of the spectrum who are ONLY selfish and do not care about anyone else. THEY are the criminals here. Unfortunatly, many rich people seem to fit this bill. Sometimes mothers who get abortions are NOT horrible criminals, but so many anti-abortion people demonize them as "murderers" and spew hatred for them instead of trying to understand the reasons WHY they thought an abortion was best. You call me a hypocrite, but tell me, Mr. Mayor, doe you even REMOTELY know what living in poverty is like? I do. I grew up with an alcoholic father, lived in an old run-down trailer that was practically a shack, and know firsthand what it is like to go to bed hungry many nights of the week. Many times I wished I were dead and many times I wished my mother had aborted me. I am glad now that she did not, for though I have grown up in a world of pain, which I have pushed myself through it to go to college and rely on my intelligence to get me out of poverty. But now I am claiming bankruptcy because the struggle to get out of poverty was so demanding on credit cards. Sometimes, being poor feels like a huge pressure, a hole than people can never get themselves out of. Do YOU understand that kind of pressure? I seem to remember that your father was an architect. And now you make buku bucks. Have you ever had to go to bed needy before? Have your kids ever had to do without because you would rather blow money on booze than feed them? Think about these things and the situations people might be in before you demonize people who think about abortion. Sometimes, they are trying only to do the best thing that they can, the best choice they can see in a world full of NO choices.....

  9. Robert Says:

Oh, one more quick thing - if Conservatives (and Liberals alike) would send less time with their PATHETIC high school games of "HA HA I'm right, you're wrong" and spend more time finding REAL solutions to the problem of poverty, many kids would be saved. If people spent less time hating each other over trivial stupid things and more time working TOGETHER - the country would be a much better place. Here's a thought - instead of bashing Liberals and passing judgement on everyone who does not think like you, why not use you site as a platform to promote charity or to help counsel people through hard times, or to generally help others in need. But no, you would rather bash liberals. Oh, and in the Communist countries where you say liberal bashing is a crime, the liberals are usually the people who question the government and lead rebellions. The Conservatives are the ones in power who want NO change becasue they like power and control the thoughts and the actions of the people. As in George Orwell's 1984, "thought crimes" are usually perpetrated by liberals and punished by a conservative, controlling government....

  10. Joel Says:

I actually agree with much of what you say, Robert. You are correct that for many people abortion "seems" like the only choice. And, no, they are not inherently evil for making the choice. Ignorant, uninformed and hurting, yes. Evil, no. That's where education comes in.

Have I ever been in poverty? No. Though there but by the grace of God go I. It could EASILY have been me instead. I didn't choose who my Father would be. And in thankfulness, I DO choose to make a difference in lives of those who are needy. I just don't publicize it.

In fact, I have a very good friend with a ministry to Chinese orphans. I am going to do a new entry sharing information about his work because it is tremendous. Thanks for reminding me!
