The Great Global Warming Swindle?

Posted on March 16, 2007 02:19 PM by Joel Comm

What's the truth about global warming? Is it as the media is currently reporting and as Al Gore's movie says? Or is it an issue being driven by a political agenda?

I am skeptical, as I have already read much that debunks "An Inconvenient Truth" as "A Magnificent Lie".

And now, a group of dissenting scientists have gotten together to create a documentary that makes it look like a tremendoes hoax.

Whatever you currently believe, I am of the mindset that it never hurts to get educated on these issues. Take a view at The Great Global Warming Swindle and let me know what you think.

When I get my car fixed I take it to an experienced, knowledgeable mechanic, one who is widely respected by others in his/her field. In fact if I want the power steering fixed then I look for a power steering SPECIALIST of that standing.
To get advice on a medical condition I look for a practitioner / specialist with experience and knowledge and high regard amongst respected.
To understand what's happening in web design or google adwords I look to the leaders in the field - which is why I am here.
To understand global warming I follow the same path - I look for scientists who are experienced, knowledgeable, highly regarded by their peers in that specialist field of study and widely published in peer-reviewed, high-impact, globally published journals.
Amongst the scientists who fit these criteria there is resounding consensus - global warming is happening, it is real, it has been noticeable for decades, and we can do something about it. If we choose not to, then we will be judged by future generations as having failed in our deep and abiding feduciary obligations to our children, grand children and great grand children.
Already we will be judged as having failed to act appropriately for a number of decades. Following the dollar is an excellent exercise - who stand most to benefit from a failure to respond ?

I live in a country where the water supplies are drying up at an alarming rate. Farmers, who see no hope for growing their crops year after year because of lack of rain are suiciding in droves. Residents of towns use strictly rationed water, while there still is some in the pipes. This is no swindle;it is a reality.

Anyway, who wants to live in an atmosphere of smog? Is that not man-made? Most Australians live on very expensive beachfront real estate, which is steadily being eroded. Sand bags and rock walls are an exercise in futility in the long run.I live in the tropics, where drought is unheard of but where erosion of beachfront is a reality.

At long last our government is being forced to admit that human activity is very much at the heart of the problem.

Where are your quotes from Nicholas Stern, David Suzuki or other, well respected, eminent scientists? I am in total agreement with Harry's comprehensive reply.

  3. Tim Norton Says:

Well, it's not really true that ALL credible scientists think global warming is a threat, but the ones who are getting media attention sure do. A global warming expert last December said on the front cover of the paper there was no doubt we would be having one of the driest winters ever in Colorado. That was the week before we had six weeks of storms. People respond well to global warming hype because it's more exciting than real life, in my opinion. It's more fun to focus on things we have little control over (atmospheric change ... did we cause the warming shift that happened thousands of years ago too?) Just pick up a paper and check out the front cover. There is less crime today than there used to be but reading the paper you would think otherwise. Maybe we can fear living our life worrying and decide to change the sphere we have control over rather than get caught up in the global warming hype? Just a though ..

Are you trying to be controversial to boost blog traffic and comments?

So far it is just showing how ignorant you are. I guess it's true... It doesn't matter how smart you are any retard can make money.

  5. Bob D Says:

ohmy, perhaps you are the idiot. I, for one, believe that Joel is on the right track investigating all angles. I believe people like yourself are brainwashed, mind-number idiots who believe what you are being fed by the mainstream media.

Global Warming is a THEORY, and nothing more. And you are a putz for believing it. Sucker.

  6. Sean Says:

Thank you for a healthy dose of scepticism. I hope this documentary gets as much viewers as Al Gore's "documentary".

Climate change is happening, it's been happening since the beginning of our planet.

Why there has been ice ages before? What caused those?

I'm sure many things affects climate, but this current hysteria is nothing but politics and a big money scheme for certain organizations (Global Tax anyone?) and politicians.

Just wait and see when politicians propose a global tax, but exclude China and other big polluters.

That means more jobless people in Europe and US.

    Will our economy stand that?

I was skeptical going into it but enjoyed hearing another POV. Thanks for posting that.

  8. Jimmy Says:

what troubles me much more are commentaries like this by the left that there should be no debate whatsoever:

"Tiggy, speech kills. And that is why it is justified to restrict it in anyway we can. These people are not debaters – they are DENIERS. So please, be ethical and complain to Ofcom, Channel 4 and anyone else who will listen about this film. If we can silence these people, then the sound of future generations cheering us on will become deafening. We owe it to The Voiceless – the fetuses, the Africans, the poor, the uneducated, the brainwashed, the mentally ill – to silence the voice of the climate change deniers NOW!"

Will you please tell me why my post was not accepted?

  10. Joel Says:

Hi Gary... I don't know. You must have filled it out in such a way that the system rejected it for some reason. It appears your IP is not banned as you did successfully comment, so feel free to try again.

    "Swindle"? LOL. C'mon...

  12. Todd Says:

I remember a big scare in the 1970's when they were telling us the next ice age was coming because of global cooling from burning fossil fuels. The scientists were just as confident, just as authoritative, the major news magazines had articles that were just as well written, and the TV networks had news programs that were just as foreboding in predicting catastrophe if we didn’t do something about it. For those of you too young to remember this, I can understand you being tricked. But for the rest of you my age, remember the old adage: ‘Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.”

  13. sean Says:

Hey Todd, excellent point. Remember The Clash, a very popular, left-wing punk rock band from UK. They had a hit single, London Calling, in 1979. Lyrics goes something like this:
"The ice age is coming, the sun is zooming in
Engines stop running and the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear London is drowning-and I live by the river..."
As we can see ice age was still a major threat in 1979 for these lefties, they just changed it to global warming when it came evident that ice age is not happening very soon...
Once Bitten, Twice Shy, like great Ian Hunter sang ages ago.

  14. Ronald Reagan Says:

The real reason you wrote this article is to drive people to your website and get adsense clicks. Did it work? How much did you make?

  15. Carl Hopkins Says:

The whole climate change issue is a sham invented by Socialists in an effort to cripple the economies of the G8 nations. As for fossil fuels? I say burn baby burn!
