The Bookstores Begged Me to Wait

Posted on July 31, 2008 11:40 PM by Joel Comm

I was all set.

Today was going to be the day.

I knew from the pre-orders on my new book, "Click Here to Order: Stories of the World's Most Successful Internet Marketing Entrepreneurs", that we were on the verge of making history with an instant best-seller.

And then... it happened.

I received a call from my publisher, David Hancock.

David is not one to be given to overexcitement, but there was something in the sound of his voice when he called me on Tuesday of this week

"Joel..." he said... "We need to talk. Call me asap"

I phoned him back as soon as I got the message.

He said, "I've got good news and I've got better news... but there is some bad news as well"

"What's the bad news?" I asked.

David says, "You need to delay the big Internet launch of your book."

I asked why.

"Because the booksellers believe this book is going to be MUCH bigger than initially anticipated, and they are BEGGING you to hold off on your unprecedented Internet push!"

YIKES!

I asked what that meant and why did they want to delay?

He confessed that things move slower in the traditional book industry and that the MAJOR booksellers wanted more time to prepare for their own marketing push to equal what I had already planned.

And, of course, more books would need to be printed in order to meet demand!

So the good news is the book is in big demand.

The better news is that it looks like Click Here to Order is going to be read, not just by everyone who has ever dabbled in Internet marketing, but also by thousands of small business people who want a look inside our world!

The bad news?

My customers will have to wait for our big launch until Tuesday, September 2nd.

I'm sorry to have to do this, but I promise it will be totally and completely worth it.

The early reviews are fantastic and I can't wait to get this book into your hands!

What can you do while you are waiting?

Enter the "Click Here to Order" contest and find out how you can win an all-expense paid trip to Colorado to spend a dream day masterminding with me and my team!

I'll be giving away a number of autographed copies of the book as well, so be sure you get your entry in before we close it off.

In the meantime, you might want to check with your local Barnes and Noble or Borders and pre-order your copy in the store.

Continued demand will get them to hurry up and stock the books asap!

So that's the big news for today. I appreciate your patience in waiting for this title to arrive, and I look forward to seeing your entry on the blog.

Ooooooh...... long sigh...... BUT it's ok. As long as there is even a bigger prize at the end of the rainbow, let the momentum roll! Thank you for letting me (who's already itchy and impatient to get my hands on it) know. A bigger demand will be good for our industry, for us, and for Joel Comm, THE Joel Comm. Thank you for all of the contribution you have made to our industry and humanity as a whole. Keep up the good work. Thumbs up!

Isn't JK Rowling launching her "Condensed Harry Potter Series" on September the 2nd Joel?

Looks like you might get asked to do "Next Internet Millionaire 2" after all.

    Joel,

That's a bit of bad news... but I am sure it will be worth the wait. BTW, I downloaded your Adsense Secrets V.4 recently; it is a fantastic resource for anyone involved in online marketing. I look forward to Click Here to Order.

Amazon IS carrying it. However, like the bookstores, they don't have enough inventory to manage demand if we do our big launch. It will show sold out in no time. So we're going to give them the month to ramp up.

At the danger of being disapproved I will have to state I disagree with you. Regardless of who begs you to do what your main concern should be the clients, and if bookstores aren't ready, well: who cares? :-)

I'm not kidding, just being a bit facetious. I don't use my local bookstore, but do use Amazon, and I think a lot of other people think exactly the same. If the product is ready, shoot the cannon.

If not, you shouldn't try to generate an extra interest by making poor excuses. There is a certain point where people would give up rather than keep trying, and they might settle with someone else's product...

That would be a bad thing, Joel.

  9. Joel Says:

    Henrik,

I appreciate the comments, but if the product is good now it will be good a month from now.

I didn't say you couldn't buy it at Amazon (you can!). I said the bookstores wanted us to give them more time before we do a major launch online.

I'm not concerned about customers buying someone else's product in this case. No one else has a product like this. :-)

    Joel

  10. Henrik Blunck - Denmark Says:

    Hi Joel

First of all I want to thank you for being candid and straight forward. I appreciate the honest style and my comment was partly a test. I notice you are now willing to communicate, even with people who might disagree on little points.

I find that highly encouraging, and thank you for your reply. Please don't misunderstand as I do wish you all the best of luck. I look forward to the actual launch - and to see the product which I understand is unique.

Well done, and keep up the good work and the good cheers. :-)

  11. Pat Says:

Hi Joel, is there going to be an affiliate program on the book.
I think many of us raving fans out here are all wanna get a piece of the pizza here, and at the same time sending tons of sales your way,

    win-win
