I've had a ton of different business ideas. At the time I dreamt them up, they all looked like winners.
It didn't always pan out that way. There have been a number of business ventures that I've started only to see them fizzle and die.
It's just a part of business. No one ever goes through life without making a mistake. Continue Reading

Now that my book, Twitter Power, is moving up the charts (#15 on Bookscan last week!), I have a lot of people asking me how effective Twitter actually is for business.
Certainly, it is difficult to put a price tag on relationships that have been built on Twitter.
It's also very hard to quantify the effects of branding on a Twitter profile page correctly designed.
But the question remains...
Does Twitter use convert to sales? Continue Reading

I've seen some really clever things done with ads on the Web. I've seen some pretty dumb things too, like whack-a-mole banners and flashing skyscrapers that make you want to look anywhere but at the ad. But some of the ideas have been incredibly creative. When Kontera first wheeled out its system, I loved the fact that its ads were so unobtrusive. When Chitika created its eMiniMalls and then its Premium ads, I thought the... Continue Reading

My team and I came up with the idea for an iPhone fart application in summer of 2008. We knew it would be a hit. We just needed to develop it. We took great pride in developing iFart Mobile. It was more than another iPhone application. It was a true entertainment machine with a unique interface. It didn't LOOK like an iPhone app. When we submitted the application to Apple, it was put "in review... Continue Reading

In March of 2006 I attended Yanik Silver's Internet Marketing Underground seminar in Washinton, DC. It was a life-changing date with destiny, for it was there that I met my future JV Partner, Eric Holmlund. I was also impressed by the high caliber of people who attended this seminar. It seemed that there was an awful lot of success in the room filled with over 300 people. Two years later and Yanik does not disappoint... Continue Reading

You've heard this phrase a thousand times. "It's not what you know, it's WHO you know." Do you believe it? It's true! At the age of 17 I got a dream job at the local computer and video store... ... because I knew the owner. At the age of 20 I got a summer job at an advertising agency and learned a ton... ... because my mother worked there. At the age of 24 I... Continue Reading

Are you an entrepreneur?
From Dictionary.com, an entrepreneur is "a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, esp. a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk."
Considerable initiative and risk.
Because of this, entrepreneurs expect to win some and lose some.
But one thing an entrepreneur will never do is stop trying. Continue Reading

This is your lucky day!
I'm not superstitious, and I believe that this Friday the 13th is going to be a huge winner for you!

Google is very protective of its AdSense code. Start changing bits here and there and you can't expect to keep your account open for very long. But there's one exception to that rule and it's a very important one. You can put this code on your Web pages: <script type="text/javascript"> var random_number = Math.random(); if (random_number //your first ad unit code goes here } else { //your second ad unit code goes here } </script> <script type="text/javascript... About two weeks ago, I told you about a new advertising service called Chitika. What makes Chitika unique is that they have implemented features which make it completely compatible with AdSense. That means you can run it on the SAME PAGES as AdSense.

Richard Hatch, the first winner of CBS's "Survivor," was charged today with failing to report his $1 million reality TV windfall to the Internal Revenue Service. The below two-count criminal information, unsealed today in U.S. District Court in Rhode Island, charges Hatch with filing a false 2000 tax return that omitted his seven-figure "Survivor" winnings. It's a great day to be an American! I just woke up after a few hours of sleep and feel like I have a political hangover. Yet, I can't take my eyes off it. The democratic presidential primary run is one of the most entertaining current affairs that I have seen in a long time. You've got Howard Dean screeching like a lunatic. Wesley Clark is denying statements that he made on video tape, clearly enough for even my children to pick up on. Joe Lieberman has the charisma of wall paint. Al Sharpton and Dennis Kucinich are loud of mouth but small of significance. And now there is... Continue Reading

Mary and I rarely go to the movies these days. I hate going to a crowded theater with people who talk during the film or make incessant noises as they scarf down their popcorn and jujubees. We are far more likely to enjoy a film in the comforts of our own home. We rarely see a film until it has come to DVD. Last night, we watched Seabiscuit. While I did not live through the... We did not want to go through the trial of commuting into NYC again today, so we took it nice and easy. We opted for a leisurely lunch at the food court at the mall, the kids did their schoolwork and I had a little playtime on the computer. Mary and I had a date night on Friday and went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. Having grown up with the DisneyWorld ride that the movie is derived from, I was curious to see the film. While reviews have been mixed, the public has spoken by making it a summer blockbuster. I went with an open mind, very much wanting to be entertained. I wasn't. I was downright bored... Continue Reading

I am so disgusted with tonight's final episode of Survivor 6: The Amazon. 21-year old Jenna was declared winner by an overwhelming majority of the jury.
