I'm a computer and video gamer from waaaay back. I remember when Pong came out. I owned a Fairchild Channel 1 video game system. That came out just before the Atari 2600 for you video game buffs. I played games on my TRS-80 model 1 computer in 1979. From adventure games and first person shooters to strategy and massively multiplayer online games, I've been there and done that. Computer and video games have a way... Continue Reading

Since Apple has opened the iTunes App Store, my company has released a number of applications.
iVote was one of the first 500 apps released.
iFart has gone on to become what is perhaps the most-often referenced app in iPhone history.
And we also had the pleasure of creating apps for Mashable, Charles Trippy and MC Hammer, among others.
I love creating apps and we've got some pretty cool stuff on the way.

I believe that iFart is also the most-referenced app in iPhone history.

A Google search for iFart now turns up 106,000 results. Continue Reading

We knew it would happen. It always happens. Not long after Twitter's popularity hit the stratosphere, the spammers began swarming. Now direct messages boxes are packed with Mafia invitations, follower lists have been infiltrated by pornbots, and I had to put up with dozens of impostors trading on my name before my verified account was able to show who's really me. Whenever something gets big and successful on the Internet, you can bet that there... Continue Reading

Creating a successful Internet business is all about bringing in users and turning them into cash. The more of those users you can convert, the more money you'll make. Your clickthrough rate - the percentage of users who click on an ad - is a measure of your ability to convert your users. A good website will have a clickthrough rate (or CTR) of around 3 percent. Or to put it another way, even a... Continue Reading

Joel Comm LIVE has been absent from the Internet since the spring. For over one year, Dan Nickerson and I welcomed guests to our program in a live format. We interacted with viewers, answered questions about Internet marketing, played with flying monkeys, read a number of humourous Top Ten lists and had a generally fun time. However, with my travel schedule being so heavy, I was unable to do the live program each week. And... Continue Reading

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of traveling to London to speak at Andrew Reynold's Entrepreneur Bootcamp 2009.

In the beginning there were blogs.
And yea, God saw that they were good.
After all, what a fantastic way for anyone to become an online publisher.
Sure, the word "blog" doesn't roll off the tongue. It sounds more like you are about to upchuck yesterday's hot dog.
But being short for "web log", it does work in a "oh well I guess it will do" kind of way. Continue Reading

Last week the FTC dropped a bomb on the marketing world. They released new guidelines for the use of testimonials and endorsements in marketing. I immediately contacted my attorney, Kevin Houchin, to get his take on the latest guidelines. With Kevin's permission, I am republishing the entire text of his interpretation. It is essential that all marketers, online and offline, pay attention to this content. And understand that if you have ANY questions, you should... Continue Reading

By now, you know that I am the creator of the world's most-talked about iPhone application, iFart Mobile. Although most people know me these days as the best selling author of "Twitter Power - How To Dominate Your Market One Tweet At A Time" and a successful internet entrepreneur, my staff and I eagerly jumped into iPhone development as soon as the app store launched. One of the most exciting developments that has occurred on Twitter in the months since I put together Twitter Power has been the release of all sorts of statistics about the site. We've learned, for example, that many of the site's users are middle-aged, high earning business types rather than the kids that create pages on MySpace. We've found that only a small proportion of Twitter's users are writing most of the tweets while the... Continue Reading

Apart from Twitter's own terms of service which prohibit obvious things like harassment, transmitting viruses and spamming other members, there really aren't many rules to the site. You can essentially use Twitter however you like. However, for people and businesses who want to use Twitter successfully (eg: build a following and grow their circle of influence), there are a number of best practices that can be observed. I cover many of these in my book... Continue Reading

I love it when academics launch studies of the entrepreneurial world. Sometimes, they come up with truly valuable and fascinating information. I can't think of any off-hand, but I'm sure they must do sometimes. More usually though, the buffoons claim that their observations have discovered something truly amazing and revolutionary... something that those of us who were actually doing it knew all along. He's got two years on me, so I was frequently wanting to hang out with him and his friends.
We don't see each other much since he lives in Illinois, but he just came to Colorado for a visit.
What do you I do with my guests when they come to town?
Invite them to join me on my show, of course! Continue Reading

Today's show was very interesting.
I am on my way to San Francisco to speak at a conference, but I really wanted to do my show.
So I decided to broadcast from the back seat of the car that was taking me to the airport!
I was hoping my new Verizon broadband modem would do the trick. From what viewers told me, it worked pretty good. Continue Reading

At 10:30 am on June 12th, Mary and I checked out of the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney and made our way to the airport. Thirty-one hours later, we're finally home. We had a 3-hour layover in Fiji and a 7-hour layover in Los Angeles. So close, but yet so far! Anyhow, I didn't have problems with jet lag in Sydney, but everyone tells me it really hits when you get home. I can see that... Continue Reading

We hopped a tour bus to the Blue Mountains on Monday. It was the Queen's Birthday, so the country was on holiday and the traffic was light. It was actually a small passenger van and there was only nine of us along with the driver. He was a very knowledgable and entertaining native who made the trip better by his presence. We stopped at a Wildlife Park, learned to toss a boomarang, toured the Blue... Continue Reading

There are people who get things in life and there are those who don't,
What's the difference?
I find that those who get things and make more things happen are unafraid to ask for them.
Whether we are talking about making the sale, getting a complimentary upgrade on an airline or getting a date, I find that there is an axiom that rings true across the board...

Well, he likes to dance and he likes to travel.
In fact, he likes to dance in the places he travels to.
Sound confusing? Continue Reading

I recently received a review copy of Anik Singal's brand new training product, The Affiliate Manager 1st Edition, and have had an opportunity to preview the set. In the video below, I take you item-by-item through the entire package and demonstrate why it is so important for anyone selling anything online to acquire a copy. Continue Reading

About six years ago, I met a guy named Todd Vinson. Todd is one of the most incredible people I have met in my life because he has dedicated his life to serving others. In particular, he has a heart for helping teenage boys who are displaced or whose families are in crisis by providing a long-term home solution where they will be properly cared for. This happens at Willow Springs Boys Ranch in Chandler... Continue Reading

Just how much money can you make with Google AdSense?
In January 2006, I had the opportunity to speak to a group of copywriters on the topic of AdSense. In the video clip that follows, I share the story of how I initially failed with AdSense... and then I share what happened next. Continue Reading

Friday, May 5th, was my 42nd birthday. So I decided that I would throw a virtual birthday party and invite some of my readers to join me!
I scheduled a teleseminar and began thinking of who I wanted to interview as a special guest for my birthday.
Now, I could have called up one of my Internet marketing buddies, but I decided to invite an "unknown" to join me for the call. Continue Reading

There are so many ways to promote business online. Adsense is a focus for me, because it has been so lucrative, and because there are so many businesses building their brand through the Adwords program. What's very interesting is that there are entire worlds of promotion outside of the Adwords Pay Per Click model. "Sponsorship" type programs are one example, which can bring traffic to not only your web site, but to your brand, through... Continue Reading

I did it. I bit the PSP bullet and forked over my cash to Sony. I've been playing video games and computer games ever since there was such a beast. I remember when Pong first arrived on the scene. I owned a Fairchild Channel One video game system (the failed precursor to the Atari home video game system that sold millions of units). I've owned Nintendos, Playstations, XBox's and who knows what else. It was... Continue Reading

There are two things you can't avoid in life. Death and taxes. And McDonalds. Ok, THREE things you can't avoid in life. Out of the three, one of them signifies the end, one of them tastes bad and one of them becomes more prominent every April. I hate taxes. But I am a good citizen and I pay my taxes. "Render unto Caesar" ... yada yada yada If you haven't filed your return yet, April... Continue Reading

In November 2005, I saw Dave Lakhani speak for the first time at Armand Morin's Big Seminar. Dave's presentation on how to use press releases to get noticed by the media and as tool to generate traffic really caught my attention. I had the privilege of spending some time with Dave this past weekened in Raleigh, NC, and found out a few things. Not only is he a brilliant PR strategist, but he is a... Continue Reading

We' ve all seen the commercials of orphaned children on late night television. The images tear at our hearts, but it is so easy for us to turn a blind eye to their plight.
Ken Surritte is a great friend of mine. Not only is he a great guy, but he also has an extremely compassionate heart for people who are in need. Continue Reading

Just the other day I was telling you about Glenn Dietzel from Awaken the Author Within. I had the opportunity to spend a couple days with Glenn. We had a fabulous time getting to know each other and at the last minute decided to put together a podcast as I was driving him to the airport so he could catch his flight home. Since we recorded this in the car, I am calling it a... Continue Reading

I just got back from one of the the most educational and inspiring seminars of my entire life. My friend, Jeff Walker, suggested that I go to Armand Morin's Big Seminar in Los Angeles. On his advice, I registered just a couple weeks ago. It cost $2000, but I trust Jeff and took his advice.
Words cannot describe the weekend I just experienced. Continue Reading

If a conservative would have said what Howard Dean said on Hardball with Chris Matthews, the mainstream media would deem it worthy of front page mockery. But since it was far-left wacko Dean, he gets a pass. That's ok. The entertainment value is to good to pass up. So what did Howie say? On the October 5th edition of "Hardball with Chris Matthews", the chairman of the Democratic National Committee was asked this question in... Continue Reading

So much of having a successful Internet business is dependent on getting your sites indexed on the search engines. Many people make a living in the search engine optimization (SEO) field, helping sites optimize their pages to be more search engine friendly. So how do you get to the top of the search engines? I do. I love Howard Dean. Yes, THE Howard Dean, former Vermont Governor. Left-wing extremist. Defeated by John Kerry in 2004 Democratic Presidential Primaries. (how does one lose to John Kerry???) And now, Chairman of the Democratic National Convention. I love Howad Dean. Why? Because he guarantees that Democrats will continue losing major elections. Check out what this bozo said yesterday. "You know, the Republicans are not very friendly to different kinds of people. They're... Continue Reading

I am a Type-A personality. My mind typically goes 100 MPH and I tend to thrive on being busy. I may even be somewhat addicted to stress, as I do some of my best work under pressure. The Amazing Race 6 has turned into a hit show, gathering more steam as each season goes by. Pretty impressive for a show many thought would not return after season 2. Unfortunately, this season contains some of the least likable people the show has seen. The producers have opted for cookie-cutter model types for many of the couples. Several of the others have just been utterly uninteresting. Fortunately, the exotic locations and unusual tasks continue... Continue Reading

Are we creating a generation of mutants? While reality TV may be hazardous to our health, I am talking about a different danger. Recent studies have shown that electromagnetic radiation from cell phones may be causing permanent physical damage. What they are finding is that there is a significant break to single and double DNA strands when animals are exposed to this form of radiation for extended periods. Think about it. We are continually wearing... Continue Reading

Me and my family spent the last four nights in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, one of our favorite places to visit in the fall. The Ozarks rise to almost 2000 feet and are a touch of natural beauty only a few hours away from the plains of Central Oklahoma. Eureka Springs is particularly beautiful because it is a small town (population 2900) nestled in the mountains. Many of the streets are reminiscent of San Francisco, with... Continue Reading

From today's edition of FamilyFirst... Today's Family First site is one that seeks to help level the playing field in current political climate. I've never been a huge Oprah Winfrey fan. I've probably watched three entire shows my whole life. But I do appreciate the positive spin she has taken her show these past years. I just finished reading Shadowmancer by G.P. Taylor. I bought it for my son to read and he really enjoyed it. On his recommendation, I gave it a read. A fantasy novel with a spiritual twist, Shadowmancer turned out to be a pretty good read. In the past, authors such as Frank Peretti and Randy Alcorn have managed to write some excellent Christian fiction that dealt with the spiritual dimension, that being the world of... Continue Reading

A few years back, I purchased a Pioneer DVD recorder for my home PC. I enjoyed burning a handful of videos onto disc (home movies), but I haven't really gotten much use from the unit. Incompatibility problems, buggy drivers and other obstacles have made it a bit less attractive then when I first purchased it. I've had my eyes on a DVD recorder for my home theater ever since that time, pining for the day... Continue Reading

As you type on the laser projection, it analyzes what you're typing by the coordinates of that location. Unlike the... Continue Reading

I came across Relevant Magazine online a couple months ago while doing a topical search. I can't remember what the search was, but I do recall being completely drawn in by this Christian magazine written for a post-modern generation. It breaks the mold of "traditional" Christian magazines by covering faith and spiritual topics from a fresh perspective. They are unafraid to tackle music, movies, relationships, politics and other issues by asking the questions many in... Continue Reading

Woke up this morning and decided that Bennington, Vermont would be a very nice place to live. The colors of the leaves are absolutely beautiful.
