Can I Ask You A Question?

Posted on November 29, 2008 08:00 AM

Whenever I attend a conference I always try to listen to as many of the other speakers' talks as possible. I can't think of a single talk that hasn't taught me something. But some of the most powerful and valuable information that I've learned at conferences didn't come while sitting in front of a professional marketer. It came while sitting in the café afterwards and chatting with my students. Continue Reading

The Web's Most Powerful Form Of Marketing

Posted on October 13, 2008 08:00 AM

Become an Internet publisher, and you'll need to learn a whole bunch of new marketing skills. You'll have to unwrap the mysteries of search engine optimization, figure out how to make pay-per-click advertising pay for you and get to grips with "link bait," banners and keywords to name just a few. None of it is really very difficult and all of it can be learned but for anyone just starting out, it will all be... Continue Reading

The Blog Classroom 2008

Posted on April 30, 2008 01:23 AM

I've been blogging since 2003. That seems like an eternity in Internet years! If you aren't blogging yet, you are missing out on a KEY component of your Internet business and online presence. The thing is, many people are totally and completely intimidated by the thought of blogging. You may even be reading this and thinking, "I'm too embarrassed to tell Joel that I don't even know what a blog is!" Don't sweat it. You... Continue Reading

Do You Enjoy Your Work?

Posted on January 2, 2008 11:51 AM

At conferences, you can spot them a mile away. They're shaking hands with everyone they meet. They're passing out business cards like they're free hundred dollar bills. They attend every talk and scribble notes furiously through each of them. And you can bet that when they go home they'll spend every waking hour -- which might be twenty in a day -- sitting in front of their computer working on their site, building traffic and... I Hate Miami

Posted on July 10, 2007 03:52 PM

I'm not a negative person. Generally, I've got a smile on my face and a bounce in my step. But the moment I got off the plane in Miami for Affiliate Summit, I felt like I needed a shower. No offense intended to any of my subscribers or friends that live at the tip of Florida, but I found it to be just a notch below absolutely miserable. Continue Reading

Getting the perfect Domain Name

Posted on May 26, 2004 12:13 AM

Remember the good old day, when you could easily register the domain name you wanted? It was no sweat to grab a great .com domain name. Who knew that everyone and their dog would want to build a web site, thereby dwindling the supply of good domain names? Times have changed and the domain name industry is BIG business. Whether .com, .net, .org, or the newer extensions, .us, .biz and .info, individuals, businesses and... Continue Reading

The Passion of the Christ - My Review

Posted on March 1, 2004 03:18 PM

I saw The Passion of the Christ last night. I have to agree with something Glenn Beck said after viewing the film. It's unreviewable. Yet, there is so much to say. I hope you will endure my babbling to find something worthwhile in the words to come. By now, you have heard about this movie. I have been writing about it for nearly 9 months now as the opening day has drawn closer. One entry... Continue Reading

Day 13: Boston, the continuing story

Posted on October 17, 2003 09:12 PM

We got to sleep in a bit this morning. After the kids did their schoolwork and I did some work, we went to lunch. Next stop was the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Museum and Library, south of the city. It is a beautiful building designed by I.M Pei. I was only two years old when President Kennedy was assasinated, so this was a great opportunity to learn more about this man that was much loved and... Continue Reading

Sweatin' to the Oldies

Posted on May 15, 2003 11:40 PM

Since I plan on joining a health club, I thought I should pick up an MP3 player so I can enjoy tunes while a tone. I bought one of these. It's got 128 MB which is enough for approximately 3 complete CDs. It also has an FM tuner and a mic for voice recording. It's a pretty slick little device. Continue Reading
