Get Off the Internet!

Posted on September 16, 2009 08:00 AM

The Internet has been good to me. No, I'll say that differently. The Internet has been fantastic to me. It's changed my life, brought me some incredible deals and continues to deliver a reliable and generous revenue stream. It's allowed me to build a successful business and lead the kind of life I've always dreamed of. I don't know where I'd be without the Web. Still selling encyclopedias probably. Or disc jockeying at weddings. We... Continue Reading

Amazon.com closed my associate account and kept the change

Posted on April 23, 2009 05:48 PM

I've been an Amazon.com Associate since the beginning. I'm not sure when they started their program, but it's been over ten years that I've promoted Amazon's products and services. Imagine my surprise when I received an email from Andrea, an Associates Account Specialist (is that for people who can't get jobs with the post office? I'm kidding.. relax...), that informed me my account was being closed. First of all, let me say this. I am... Continue Reading

A beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains

Posted on February 1, 2009 02:08 PM

I'm currently vacation in Dillon, CO with my family, staying at a friend's vacation home. I walked outside and it was such a gorgeous day that I decided to do a spontaneous live show! So from the Rocky Mountains, you can check out the replay now. Watch for special appearance from Socrates the Philosopher Dawg. :-) Continue Reading

What Do You Need To Know?

Posted on December 9, 2008 08:00 AM

"Focus on what's meaningful, not what's measurable." I wish I'd said that. It wasn't me though. It was Warren Buffet, a man much smarter -- and a great deal wealthier -- than me. And not surprisingly, it's great advice and it's especially important for online marketers. The Web gives us access to all sorts of figures. Our AdSense stats tell us our clickthrough rates, our eCPMs, how our channels are doing and of course, our... Continue Reading

The Virtual Masters Internet Marketing Seminar

Posted on December 2, 2008 12:24 AM

Did you feel it? It was just a tremor, but the effects are global. In fact, I'll say this... The world just got smaller. Alright, Joel. WHAT are you talking about? Continue Reading

The View from Here

Posted on April 6, 2008 02:42 PM

Ah... Kauai. We were here two years ago and had a great time. I think we did all the touristy stuff that week. Helicopter ride. Driving around both coasts... etc. Last year we went to Maui, and although beautiful, it doesn't match Kauai for beauty. Maui was also way overpriced and I can't see going there again just for a vacation. Anyhow, I don't think I've ever been in such need of a vacation and... Continue Reading

Tornado hits downtown Atlanta

Posted on March 15, 2008 12:05 AM

I'm currently in Atlanta for Matt Bacak's Marketing Madness conference. I'm set to speak to 150 or so people tomorrow. So Dan Nickerson and I are in our hotel room right next to the airport. I mean DIRECTLY next to the airport. Our balcony overlooks all the runways, so we've enjoyed the sights and sounds of planes continually taking off and landing. But as we were coming back from dinner tonight, I noticed lightning in... Continue Reading

Hawaii Day 1 - Maui is Burning

Posted on June 28, 2007 10:16 AM

We arrived on Maui on Tuesday afternoon, snagged our rental car and made our way to the hotel. We're staying on the west side of the island in the Ka'anapali area. It's absolutely gorgeous here. From my fifth floor balcony I can see the ocean, the mountains, palm trees, sandy beaches and a beautiful landscape. It's 6 am Hawaii time as I blog this (my body says it is 10 am MST) and I've enjoyed... Continue Reading

Planning Your Work and Working Your Plan

Posted on March 15, 2007 11:03 AM

Vince Lombardi once said, "A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done." Take inventory of yourself... Are you where you want to be? If not, why not? Continue Reading

Merry Christmas 2006

Posted on December 25, 2006 03:58 PM

Yesterday, we went to church for Christmas Eve service. And the pastor put a twist on the message that I hadn't really considered before. He asked "How many of you believe that Jesus is the reason for the season?" Hands went up throughout the sanctuary. And then the room when silent when he said, "Jesus is NOT the reason for the season!" Continue Reading

George W. Bush IS Presidential

Posted on September 3, 2004 02:42 PM

I watched the President last night and was inspired. It is so refreshing to have a man in the White House who is "real". I know, I know. The Dems will scream about how "stupid" I am for believing the "lies" of the Bush administration. Save your breath. Your comments will be deleted. After surviving eight years of the worst Presidency to ever curse the White House, I can spot a liar and a con... Continue Reading

Colorado Vacation 2004

Posted on July 10, 2004 11:41 PM

It seems like forever since we last had a family vacation. You might remember our last trip was a doozy. Since that time, I have traveled to Boulder, Colorado and Reno, Nevada on business. But this is the first chance we have gotten to pack up the minivan and hit the road! We left town around 10 am this morning and pulled into Louisville, Colorado (just outside Boulder) around 7:30 pm MST. It was an... Continue Reading

#15 - That Thing You Do

Posted on November 19, 2003 09:32 PM

We start my list of the Best Movies Ever (from my personal DVD collection) with an unlikely candidate. That Thing You Do (1996) makes the cut at #15 because, well, it just makes me feel good! Written and directed by Tom Hanks, That Thing You Do manages to take a trite, cliched storyline, add a perfect supporting cast and a hook that won't let go, and turn it into pure movie magic. The film tells... Continue Reading

Posted on October 23, 2003 09:57 PM

So long New Jersey. Hello Pennsylvania. For the second time on this journey, we are in Pennsylvania. The first time we passed through the west end on our way to Niagara Falls. This time we are stopping for four nights in Philadelphia. There is so much history here and we are going to attempt to squeeze as much in as possible. I had a very hard time finding a place to stay in the city... Continue Reading

Day 11: Massachusetts

Posted on October 15, 2003 08:56 PM

We started the day at Ro and Kyle's Bed and Breakfast. What great people these two are, and what a blessing it was to spend the night with them, enjoying good food and conversation. They are planning on driving to Boston on this weekend to spend more time with us exploring the sites. We hit the road around noon and set course for the Boston area. We weren't in a hurry and figured that we... Continue Reading

Day 8: Over a Barrel

Posted on October 12, 2003 09:15 PM

Finding a church to worship at while out of town is always a challenge. You just never know what you are going to get. As it turned out, I opened the yellow pages, placed a call to a church, asked a couple questions and decided that I had found a place. Redeemer Bible Church is a medium-sized church about five miles from the falls, just off the highway. The church placesa high emphasis on music... Continue Reading

Day 6: Cleveland Rocks!

Posted on October 10, 2003 09:48 PM

Mary and the kids needed to take some extra time for school today, so I dropped them off at the Cleveland Public Library. I then excitedly drove down the street to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I've always want to visit this place and was thrilled to have the opportunity. The architecture of the building was very cool with a wide open atrium and six levels of exhibits. I only had a couple... Continue Reading

On the road again

Posted on July 19, 2003 09:33 PM

It is late on Saturday evening and we are preparing for a sem-spontaneous trip to Red River, New Mexico. It has been SO darned hot in Oklahoma City (it hit 109 degrees today!) that we need a break from it. So we'll be leaving first thing in the morning and will return next Sunday. It is approximately 8.5 hours driving time. Figure in 1.5 hours for rest stops, food, and walking the dog, should put... Continue Reading

Finally. Sunshine! The storms have passed and it looks like we'll have a reprieve. Huzzah. By the way, see that little "comments" link at the bottom of each entry? That's a place for YOU to reply to me. Simply click the link and you'll see a brief form that allows you the opportunity to rant back at me. Of course, you can also see others babble. It's fun, try it! I'm going out with MrsMayor... Continue Reading

Phew... close call!

Posted on May 9, 2003 10:31 PM

Well, we used the underground storm shelter I had put in the garage tonight. The tornado was about 6 miles from here. Remember I said my mom and step-father are in town visiting? The tornado went right by the hotel they are staying at! I just heard from them. They have no power in the hotel, but no one is hurt. I told them they got a big "Welcome to Oklahoma!" greeting. I wonder if... Continue Reading
