Your Work as a Publisher

Posted on March 17, 2009 08:00 AM

I've seen some really clever things done with ads on the Web. I've seen some pretty dumb things too, like whack-a-mole banners and flashing skyscrapers that make you want to look anywhere but at the ad. But some of the ideas have been incredibly creative. When Kontera first wheeled out its system, I loved the fact that its ads were so unobtrusive. When Chitika created its eMiniMalls and then its Premium ads, I thought the... Continue Reading

Impact Popup

Posted on June 7, 2006 12:07 AM

If you have a site and want to get your visitor's attention, this is really cool stuff... Over 86% of web surfers have some sort of popup blocker installed. If you want to gather email addresses or request your visitors take some other action, popups have become ineffective. Until now... Impact Popup gets around popup blockers to display a very slick popup that you can install on your site in a matter of moments. Continue Reading

BlockBuster Video - Free Trial

Posted on October 22, 2004 03:22 PM

A few months back, BlockBuster Video sent me a press kit encouraging me to try their new online DVD rental service. I had used Netflix once before, but wasn't too thrilled with their service at the time. I decided to give BlockBuster a try. After two months as a member, I must confess that I am terribly impressed with BlockBuster's service! Here's how it works. You pay a monthly fee of $19.95 which allows you... Continue Reading

Me and my sidekick, revisited

Posted on June 4, 2004 03:30 AM

Earlier this year, I went to my local T-Mobile store and purchased a Sidekick, a unique cell phone and PDA that is pretty slick looking. T-Mobile has a 14-day trial period, so I took advantage of it, not really sure if I would want to keep it. Plus, I had already decided that I would be returning this phone as I found I could get it cheaper on Amazon.com. The phone retails for $350, but... Continue Reading

Cloning now a reality?

Posted on April 15, 2004 12:07 PM

When I first saw the advertisement for the Godsend Institute, my first thought was "well that was only a matter of time". Along with the smiling, happy faces appearing on the banner ad which I clicked on, the ad presented this text... "When God fails you, come to Godsend. Cloning made simple" The slick web site presents a company with a service on the cutting edge. The Godsend Institute has perfected the art of cloning... Continue Reading

Shopping for Books

Posted on February 24, 2004 12:28 AM

Darkwolf (my technical guru) messed with some free scripts and put together my own Amazon.com book store. Essentially, you can browse this site and find anything and everything that you would find at Amazon.com. In fact, when you go to make your purchase, you'll actually be making it from Amazon.com. AllBooks.info - Slick, huh? Continue Reading

Found this great site as a result of visiting Joel Blain's blog. Thanks Joel! MyWorld66 has a great tool that allows you to input the countries and/or states you have visited, and then creates a map the graphically displays where you have been. It's pretty slick. create your own visited country map create your own visited states map Continue Reading

Katherine Hepburn 1907-2003

Posted on June 29, 2003 07:11 PM

'Tis a sad day for fans of the "old" movies. One of the last great living legends is no more. Katherine Hepburn passed away at the ripe old age of 96. About 12 years ago, Mary and I went through a period of watching tons of old movies. The stars of old includeed Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Spencer Tracy, Gary Cooper, and Katherine Hepburn. My personal favorite is The Philadelphia Story, which co-starred Cary Grant... Continue Reading

Artist wannabe

Posted on May 18, 2003 12:00 AM

I'm not an artist.. don't even pretend to be. A few years ago I owned a macintosh computer and I played with a program called Bryce. It was a slick package that allowed you to render beautifully detailed landscapes on the fly. It's far more advanced today, but I did these images about 6 years ago. Curious and Curiouser Donuts Far from Home Empty Street The Throne Whaddya think? Continue Reading

Sweatin' to the Oldies

Posted on May 15, 2003 11:40 PM

Since I plan on joining a health club, I thought I should pick up an MP3 player so I can enjoy tunes while a tone. I bought one of these. It's got 128 MB which is enough for approximately 3 complete CDs. It also has an FM tuner and a mic for voice recording. It's a pretty slick little device. Continue Reading
