There are times when I've sat in a conference, looked around a room full of bright, hopeful entrepreneurs and wondered how many of them will become successful.
I don't mean how many of them will be successful this time next year or how many will be millionaires in five years' time.
I mean how many will be successful at all.

Whenever I sit down to write a book or prepare a talk, I always have one goal in mind.
I want to make it easier for other people to achieve success.
That's easier... not easy.
I know my limitations. And I know Internet marketing.
And I know that there's no such thing as a successful Internet business that was built easily.

Here's a confession...
Not every idea I've had has been golden.
In fact, I can say that many of the business ideas I've tried have managed to bring me... well, let's just say something was funding one or two lunches per week.
That's one of the advantages of marketing. Everyone gets to know about your successes but your failures just fade away.

What is hype?
From dictionary.com, one definition is "exaggerated publicity"
For example...
"The amazing super-duper fantasmagorical stapler can save thousands of dollars each year in lost time and help you lose 30 pounds in three minutes!"
Ok, that IS over-the-top hype.
What about where Internet marketing products are concerned?
Is there hype?

Whenever I see a news story about Google's development plans, I usually give it a read, make sure it's not going to affect my AdSense earnings... and daydream for a minute or two about running a multi-billion dollar business. When I talked recently about Darren Rowse's poll into the reasons that people unsubscribe from RSS feeds, I mentioned the biggest issue: the number of posts that publishers send to subscribers.
