Hardly a day goes by that I don't hear about a new Twitter app, web tool or other utility created to make the use of Twitter easier or more interesting. It's pretty hard to keep up with them. Every time I go to a conference or take part in a seminar I meet a bunch of amazing people.
I meet people who are experts at marketing. I chat to entrepreneurs who are wizards at search engine optimization. I swap ideas with other bloggers who are making six-figure incomes on the strength of their posts.
Every one of those people is special.

I remember when Guerrilla Marketing came out. I was so excited. Here were a bunch of different methods to run powerful marketing campaigns without spending a dime.
It was revolutionary.
At last, the average Joe could build a business even with a marketing budget no deeper than his pant pockets.
The philosophy laid out in that book still holds good. It is still possible to sell products without buying a 30-second spot during the Superbowl.

The first is to sit at the computer and type up the first thing that comes into your head.
If you have interesting ideas, fun experiences and can write well, that can certainly work. There are plenty of bloggers who make a good income writing about themselves, their lives and their families.

Online publishing is a business. Like any business it requires work. It requires paying taxes. And it requires investments of cash to keep going.
That last hurdle is the one that many people stumble over.
They think that because the only equipment they need to set up an online publishing business is a computer, that's the only expense they'll ever need to pay.

I'm amazed that there are people out there -- somewhere -- who aren't making money from AdSense. It's not as though you need a doctorate in computer studies and a professorship in literature. You just need a website and an AdSense account.
And ever since blogging came along, the website bit has been a breeze. It takes all of about five minutes to sign up on Blogger and it's a perfect match for AdSense.

Just got a Flip Video camera. It is a nifty little device. Great to carry anywhere. You never know when you'll come across something worth filming.
Anyhow, I stopped through the local Target today and happened to have my Flip handy.

A few years back, I purchased a Pioneer DVD recorder for my home PC. I enjoyed burning a handful of videos onto disc (home movies), but I haven't really gotten much use from the unit. I've been dabbling with the domain name industry recently. Back in the Internet boom, people were buying up domain names and reselling them for a bucketload of cash. After the bubble burst, domains weren't worth what they used to be. However, they are coming back with a vengeance. A few weeks back, some guy sold "mens.com" for over a million bucks. I have never been one to hit the stores the day after Thanksgiving. I have heard about the craziness, but never experienced it myself. It always made way more sense to wait until a more reasonable time to shop. I've been on a domain buying binge lately and am planning to launch a bunch of sites. I've already got the template for CouponBlog online, and I'll be adding RebateBlog.com soon. There are a handful of others waiting in the wings, depending how quickly Darkwolf can get the work done.
