Top Ten Things I Learned About Life from Playing Computer and Video Games

Posted on November 19, 2009 08:05 AM

I'm a computer and video gamer from waaaay back. I remember when Pong came out. I owned a Fairchild Channel 1 video game system. That came out just before the Atari 2600 for you video game buffs. I played games on my TRS-80 model 1 computer in 1979. From adventure games and first person shooters to strategy and massively multiplayer online games, I've been there and done that. Computer and video games have a way... Continue Reading

New FTC Rules for Testimonials and Endorsements in Marketing

Posted on October 10, 2009 08:54 AM

Last week the FTC dropped a bomb on the marketing world. They released new guidelines for the use of testimonials and endorsements in marketing. I immediately contacted my attorney, Kevin Houchin, to get his take on the latest guidelines. With Kevin's permission, I am republishing the entire text of his interpretation. It is essential that all marketers, online and offline, pay attention to this content. And understand that if you have ANY questions, you should... Continue Reading

How Many Dimensions Do You Have?

Posted on August 5, 2009 08:00 AM

Twitter divides people into two camps. To those who use it, it's a whole new Internet. There's the Web of pages and content, and there's the Twitter of people and connections. Both are valuable and both are enjoyable, but they do different things and they do them in different ways. To people who aren't on Twitter though, the service looks completely bizarre. It's a place where people go to tell strangers what they had for... Continue Reading

Everyone needs a motto to live by. For some it's "do unto others as they do unto you." For others it's "get all you can while you still can." And still for others it may be "eat, drink and be merry!" I'm good with whatever works for you, but I've been settling into a motto of my own. Continue Reading

Twitter has experienced massive growth in the past year, with the number of people signing up each month accelerating. It has also become the media darling of the day. It seems that everyone is Twittering. However, with only 10-12 million people on the site, its clear that everyone is NOT Twittering. Don't fret. They will be soon. So where is the media paying the most attention to Twitter? You guessed it. It's all about the... Continue Reading

In January of 2005, I released my first ebook. It was called "What Google Never Told You About Making Money with AdSense" and it was written to help people make more money on their web sites using the AdSense program. As it turned out, the ebook was very successful and I have received many emails from people thanking me for the material. Since that time, I have been at work on a second edition. I'm... Exploding Toads

Posted on April 27, 2005 09:19 PM

I have just returned from my week-long Paris vacation and I have much to say. But I also need sleep and hope to get to this entry soon. In the meantime, I ran across this story in a U.K. newspaper while enjoying my croissant yesterday morning. Mystery of German exploding toads As it would happen, toads in a region of Germany are inflating beyond their normal size and exploding. Kaboom. Toad guts everywhere. Weird. The... Continue Reading

Admit it you want to know

Posted on April 25, 2005 11:22 AM

The truth? I've been in Paris all week, enjoying the world's most beautiful city with the world's most beautiful woman. I plan on writing a detailed entry (or series of entries) detailing our exploits. As I sit on the balcony of my hotel enjoying someone's open wifi network, I can't help but imagine what it would be like to stay here for an extended period. Nevertheless, we must return home tomorrow. More details to come! Continue Reading

Search Automator

Posted on April 12, 2005 12:12 AM

Since my ebook has become popular, I have been inundated with emails from people wanting me to look at ebooks and Internet tools. Many of them are a waste of time and money. But occassionally I come across something of real value. Today's entry is about one such tool. The tool is called Search Automator and, to be candid, it is one of the most incredibly useful, and powerful new tools I've seen this year... Continue Reading

Good Morning America!

Posted on November 3, 2004 09:37 AM

It's a great day to be an American! I just woke up after a few hours of sleep and feel like I have a political hangover. Yet, I can't take my eyes off it. Let's look at some incredible things that came out of this election... George W. Bush won the most votes EVER, beating even Ronald Reagan. George W. Bush beat John Kerry by over 3.5 Million votes, making him the clear winner. A... Continue Reading

Democrat Snake Oil, Anyone?

Posted on October 15, 2004 06:08 PM

Charles Krauthammer, writing for the Jewish World Review, has come out with an article that precisely nails down the problem with John Kerry and John Edwards. Highlights from Krauthammer's article... This is John Edwards on Monday at a rally in Newton, Iowa: "If we do the work that we can do in this country, the work that we will do when John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going to walk, get up... Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Posted on October 3, 2004 10:18 PM

Mary and I had the opportunity to enjoy a "date night" on Friday. First we enjoyed a nice dinner at Johnny Carinos Italian restaurant. Next we went to the mall and pigged out on ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery (superior to Marble Slab in case you are wondering). Finally, it was on the cinema to take in a showing of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. I received a great deal of chastisement... Continue Reading

Bush vs. Kerry - Who is more compassionate?

Posted on September 10, 2004 06:16 PM

I came across some very interesting information regarding the history of charitable contributions for the President and Senator Kerry. Check this out. John Kerry's charitable contributions from 1991-1995 Kerry's returns from 1995 and earlier, before his marriage to Heinz, have sometimes attracted criticism over the issue of charitable giving. In 1995, according to published reports, Kerry reported a taxable income of $126,179, and charitable contributions of $0. In 1994, he reported income of $127,884, and... Continue Reading

Campaign Commercials

Posted on September 7, 2004 07:13 PM

Serious or superfluous? Truth or propaganda? These are some of the questions we must ask as we view political campaign commercials. Often influential and sometimes backfiring, political parties and their public relations teams attempt to discuss the issues of the day and portray their candidate as the best man for the job. Often, this entails little more than communicating how their opponent is the worst man for the job. The Living Room Candidate is a... Continue Reading

Dialup Accelerator

Posted on August 23, 2004 12:51 AM

It was just like any other day. I booted up my computer and started to check on my web sites. And as happens from time to time, my sites were not coming up quickly or at all. My first thought is that a server is down. I test another server and see that it is not communicating either. Now I start thinking my T1 to the office is down. So I apply the test to... Kicking my Sidekick

Posted on June 5, 2004 12:19 AM

And now, the continuing saga of the T-Mobile Sidekick, as featured in yesterday's entry. So my Sidekick finally activates around noon today. Around 2 pm, my phone number is ported from Sprint. All is well and good. (except dealing with Sprint.. but I'll save that rant for another time...) I am able to surf the web and received a couple calls. However, I immediately noticed that the "e" key sticks a bit. Sometimes it works... Continue Reading

Me and my sidekick, revisited

Posted on June 4, 2004 03:30 AM

Earlier this year, I went to my local T-Mobile store and purchased a Sidekick, a unique cell phone and PDA that is pretty slick looking. T-Mobile has a 14-day trial period, so I took advantage of it, not really sure if I would want to keep it. Plus, I had already decided that I would be returning this phone as I found I could get it cheaper on Amazon.com. The phone retails for $350, but... Continue Reading

Getting the perfect Domain Name

Posted on May 26, 2004 12:13 AM

Remember the good old day, when you could easily register the domain name you wanted? It was no sweat to grab a great .com domain name. Who knew that everyone and their dog would want to build a web site, thereby dwindling the supply of good domain names? Times have changed and the domain name industry is BIG business. Whether .com, .net, .org, or the newer extensions, .us, .biz and .info, individuals, businesses and... Continue Reading

Cloning now a reality?

Posted on April 15, 2004 12:07 PM

When I first saw the advertisement for the Godsend Institute, my first thought was "well that was only a matter of time". Along with the smiling, happy faces appearing on the banner ad which I clicked on, the ad presented this text... "When God fails you, come to Godsend. Cloning made simple" The slick web site presents a company with a service on the cutting edge. The Godsend Institute has perfected the art of cloning... Continue Reading

The Passion of the Christ - My Review

Posted on March 1, 2004 03:18 PM

I saw The Passion of the Christ last night. I have to agree with something Glenn Beck said after viewing the film. It's unreviewable. Yet, there is so much to say. I hope you will endure my babbling to find something worthwhile in the words to come. By now, you have heard about this movie. I have been writing about it for nearly 9 months now as the opening day has drawn closer. One entry... Continue Reading

Stubbed toe - $30,000

Posted on January 8, 2004 10:28 AM

Another great Walmart story brought to you courtesy of the "whats-in-it-for-me" crowd... A Mt. Pleasant Township couple wants Wal-Mart to pay for foot and toe injuries they claim were caused by canned goods and condiments that tumbled from an overfilled plastic grocery bag. According to a two-count civil lawsuit filed Wednesday in Westmoreland County, Brenda and Ronald Sager contend a plastic bag they brought home from the East Huntingdon Township store last month was deficient... Spam spam spam spam

Posted on December 4, 2003 12:59 AM

Argh! (You ever notice just how many of my posts start with that word?) I am SO sick of SPAM! This Spam, not this Spam. My old email account now receives over 1000 unsolicited emails every day. I have been using my new account for only two months and it is now receiving over 100 spam emails each day. So, to sum up... ARGH! I have been setting up filters and server-side solutions. But most... Continue Reading

Day 23: Chocolate Heaven

Posted on October 27, 2003 06:06 PM

We left Philadelphia early this morning and jumped on the highway towards Hershey, Pennsylvania. The kids have been looking forward to our visit to Chocolate World for the whole trip, so the anticipation had been building. Hershey's Chocolate World was just plain fun. Pulling into the parking lot gives you the feeling of, "Uh oh, there goes the diet!" The first thing we did was check out the free Chocolate Tour Ride, a Disney-style track... Continue Reading

Day 10: Vermont

Posted on October 14, 2003 10:40 PM

Woke up this morning and decided that Bennington, Vermont would be a very nice place to live. The colors of the leaves are absolutely beautiful. I know it won't last long, and before you know it, the cold weather will come and the snow will fall. I don't care. The town has so much charm, history and beauty. After a quick breakfast in the room, we followed the usual ritual of packing the car and... Continue Reading

Snap. Click. Hello?

Posted on June 26, 2003 10:52 PM

Bought an ultra-cool cell phone today. It's a Sanyo 8100 for the Spring PCS network. It's extremely lightweight and is loaded with cool features, not the least of which is the built in camera. Simply point the camera, view the image on the color screen and SNAP. You've got a photo. If you like it, you save it. Then, you can send it to another Sprint PCS Vision user, email it to any address, and/or... Continue Reading

All I remember is the company was called "Powernet", and they had a multi-level marketing scheme for Internet dial-up accounts.
