Today's entry may be one of the most important ones I have ever sent out.
Why?
Because your response to this newsletter is going to help guide the direction of all future newsletters!
This is the day that I am asking for participation from every one of my readers...
... and I am counting on you!
I have one question for you, and I would ask that you take a few minutes to provide me with your answer below.
Ready?
Here goes...
What is your BIGGEST question about making money online?
Now, I don't want you to just ask me, "how do you make money online?"
That would be too simple.
In the thirteen years of running an online business, I've done just about everything that isn't illegal or immoral.
I know a few things... but I want to know what YOU want to know!
This is your opportunity to ask whatever you want, so please take advantage of it.
Scroll down the page and go to the comments section where you may input your biggest question about making money online.
Feel free to ask a long question or be brief. I just need to know what's on your mind.
I look forward to reading your questions!

when planning for a business online.. what do you think is the most important factor that will determine whether or not you will be successful?
does putting all your concentration and effort on the business, really make it work? i'm not being skeptical here. but i'm only 2 months into network marketing. i have received a lot of ideas, some from great people. but.. i right now into the planning part, can you provide some advice?
February 19, 2008 04:31 AM
1. If you were just starting out, what would you focus on first in order to start having some successes right away even if small?
2. Would you please do an in depth post on the actions needed to start doing the answer to the questions above?
I think that a lot of people fail before they even big. We could all use some tips on how to start even if small.
February 19, 2008 05:23 AM
How can we motivate ourselves to take action? I mean, I have all these wonderful ideas, but the problem is there are TOO MANY of them. Do you have recommendations for how to pick one idea at first, and become very good at it? And then possibly branch out from there?
February 19, 2008 07:03 AM
I had a question about WhyPark.com
Can you park .ca domains?
February 19, 2008 07:05 AM
Hey Joel, thanks for opportunity...how come I'm full of ideas but when I get home in the evening - I don't feel like doing anything... Ok, that was not a question for you. :-)
The question is what do you think are or is the most useful affiliate or internet marketing guide you've personally read? I mean handbook or simple guide, not a $1000+ course of course :-) Straight to the point, no fluff, no hype...this would be great reading not only for me but for my readers as well! :-)
...and your site's new design is great! I like it very much. (have been inspired...)
Thanks!
Marian

To be really successful online does take alot of patience work and determination. I get bombarded by hundreds of offers from other gurus who are consistently trying to sell me something that I usually don't need. Is it best to start my own online business or follow someone else's business model?
February 19, 2008 07:10 AM
My biggest question about Internet Marketing / making money online will be how to - step-by-step, create a killer web promo (such as writing a blog post to promote a particular product that we are selling as affiliates and be compelling enough such that readers will want to take action right away). I do have some problems in writing such blog posts as English is not my strongest forte.
Also, I have a question on social marketing - it will be wonderful if there's a step-by-step blueprint as to how we can make full use of Squidoo lens or HubPages to promote products/services that we have - I've combed through the Internet for resources like this but most of them I've found are pretty brief - they only covered the basics that probably enough for a general newbie to start off but I guess its probably not enough to create profitable Squidoo lens and HubPage hubs. I'm also very interested to learn more about how on earth we can make full use of Social Networking tools like MyBlogLog, Technorati. That'll be cool.
That's about all from me for now. Would really appreciate it if your newsletter could cover some of the above pointers I've pointed out.
Thanks so much! And I'm really looking forward to your newsletter! :)

What program or template, in your opinion, is the best to use for creating a website. There's so many factors to take into consideration when building one. Is it seo, spider, robot friendly. Everybody seems to start sharing their expertise with the assumption you have a website, (ie choosing keywords) but you know how important all these other considerations are.
February 19, 2008 07:21 AM
How do you get the people who visit your website to sign up?
February 19, 2008 07:21 AM
Sometimes I might ask...
" What is consider an online business? As long as it can be make money online? "
Maybe Joel can help on this.
Thanks.

How many people work for you including out sourcing?

Joel,
The biggest question I have for you is: How do you decide among all of the possible projects on the table which ones are worth your (and your staff's) time, energy and other limited resources?
Thank you,
Chris
February 19, 2008 07:30 AM
Thank you for the opportunity; My biggest concern is how do I figure out who to take advice from? As a newbie, many of us spend a lot of money buying programs and other stuff that is all fluff. Are there indicators that let us know what is good and what is junk? Thanks and have a blessed day.

hi Joel,
I'd like to know if it's a good idea to drive traffic from safelists to a squeeze page where you give away a free report in exchange for their name and email address.
February 19, 2008 07:32 AM
Whose newsletters would you recommend I unsubscribe from so I can keep up with essential changes but not get distracted reading too many things?
February 19, 2008 07:33 AM
Doing all the things required can be overwhelming. Starting out on a budget necessitates doing everything at present. Question is:
Is outsourcing web design, graphics, etc a workable solution in the early stages?
If so, how and where can one find help at a reasonable cost?

My biggest question about making money online is why is it so user friendly for western countries? I am talking about things like why clickbank does not list countries like mine (Malawi), why credit cards are hard to come by, I could go on.
From what I have seen, there are more people with more desperation to make money online in these countries compared to the western countries.
I am working on a way through this problem.
Thanks for the opportunity to air this out.

Joel,
My biggest fear, and thus concern, is that I have a website that I personally built using Homestead.com and its sitebuilder plug and play software. What criteria should a person use when deciding what technology platform or programs to use to build our websites. My fear is I build everything and then it won't support the eventual traffic and sales that I anticipate. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.
February 19, 2008 07:36 AM
I want a step by step guide for creating a clickbank referall page, from start to finish, including creating the originial web page.
I want a step by step guide to creating a free information page with google ads on the sides, including creating the original web page.
I want a step by step guide to creating a completely customized blog review page with google ads on the sides, including the creation of the original web page.
Does this make sense? Is this the right focus?
Are these the right questions to ask? What else do I need to include?
Thanks for you consideration!
Sincerely,
-Adam

My question is: What is the best way to get started with online businesses? Should one start a blog and add in AdSense? Maybe a website? What is a little step-by-step guide for all of those trying to get their foot in the door to this online world? Thanks a lot for your help. I look forward to continue reading your posts.

I have been an affiliate for years and am frustated by Google.... I would love to understand more. As an example, one of my ads shows placement of 1.7 and a ton of clicks, but analysis says it isn't being shown on search?I can only assume all those clicks are coming from content? And I've had ads where suddenly out of the blue--and after years of successful click through--the landing page suddenly reverts to a Freebie Finder and I of course quit making money! Why would this happen? And etc. etc.

What role does social bookmarking play in site promotion. And is it ok to go around Stumble-ing and Digg-ing your own website, or is there a better way to go about it?
February 19, 2008 07:45 AM
i would like to start an online business but at this particular time,i am completely BROKE.i don't own a credit card and i am job hunting.you hear about these free opportunities all the time, but then they're not free because they charge you a small fee for this or that or for shipping and handling.to me that's not free.free is "NO CHARGE"for anything including shipping and handling.this makes it real difficult for me to get off the ground because i have noway of paying for any type of startup cost.i may sound like some bum off the street, but actually i am an intelligent person that happens to be down on my fate;but only temporary.is there a way that i can receive help to get started. thanx much! I'm an italian guy, live in Italy and I'm looking a way to succeed in internet marketing. I see a lot of "promises" on the web but every time I ask: is your method useful even in Italy? No one answered.
So my question to you is: is there a way for an italian guy to follow your method on italian market starting from skretch? Wich kind of support may I expect to obtain from you after subscription? Do I have to "adapt" the method in Italy or is ready to use? Could be of some interest for you to work together in that direction (method localization)?
Hope to hear soon from you
Thanks

February 19, 2008 07:48 AM
Hi Joel,
Thanks for the opportunity!
1. What do you think of "cookie cutter" sites such as XSitePro if you do not have the tech skills to build your own website and no money to outsource?
2. I would like to do affiliate marketing, but am having a hard time finding a niche as I have no particular passion or expertise. In that case what would you suggest?
Like your new blog design!
Thanks again!

Hi Joel,
It seems that my question has been asked in dozens of different ways by some of your other readers already. So my question is this: Can you point me to a simple, working website that embodies and includes all your best tricks and tips? Even better if this website had commentaries and sample code to show exactly how things need to be done. The problem I face is just where to start!

Hi Joel
I wanna know the step by step guide on how to generate income from adsense with our blog.
February 19, 2008 07:50 AM
How do you sort through the gazillion options out there and pick the ones that will get you the most bang for your buck? The fundamentals of marketing are pretty much known, although there are new twists on them all the time, so any number of marketing courses can give me the basics. A person has to be able to choose the strategies that will work best for them. Is there a way to do that more efficiently, or is trial and error the only way? And if the latter, at what point do you know it's an error and you need to try something new? Many people give up on a strategy just as it's about to start panning out. What do you look for to tell you that the strategy is viable, but just hasn't had time to work yet?
I know, that's several questions, but I think it all comes down to how a person can tell they're on the right track, and I do realize that much of that is up to the individual being in touch with their own being.

February 19, 2008 07:53 AM
Hi. Thanks for this opportunity, Joel.
My question is this.
How can I stay motivated to be a creative force in activities which if I consistantly do, I will make big differnce, such as in writing articles, doing some marketing research, and so on. My question from differnt angle is, how can I avoid procrastination?
Very respectfully.

Joel,
How do more mature websites (4 years and up) continue to grow revenue after implementing and tweaking the adsense, chikita, kontera type ads, and putting on affiliate programs? Where can mature websites get additional traffic that is cost effective when the majority of revenue from the mature site is advertising revenue?
Thanks,
glw

Joel, there's so much that's exciting about working the Internet that a curious person is tempted to sample it all. Creates a problem of maintaining focus, but after awhile, the stuff that is most exciting rises to the top. Still results in a lot of not quite finished work published to websites and blogs. This compounds the challenge of getting targeted traffic to all of those sites. That's my major concern - getting enough targeted traffic to the sites where the the objective is monetization rather than just a hobby..

Joel,
I've been asked this question literally dozens of times before, mostly by SEVERAL top online marketers, but usually it's to define their next product(s). This is the first time I've seen it intended to give a business its direction.
I'll be curious to see how this shakes out. Will you service only the newbie market segment if most of the questions are basic, the intermediate market if most of the questions are at an intermediate level, or advanced marketers (what are the odds?) if they're looking to accelerate or expand their already lucrative web business growth?
I've got to hand it to you. You're brilliant to use an "ask campaign" to determine where your market is. When you've got a list in the tens of thousands, I can see where defining and possibly specializing your business into separate entities for different market segments/experience levels would be essential. I've got to remember this one for when I actually have a list...

I am grossing on average $500/month from my web sites... mostly from the Astronomy one. This is very nice and is due, in part, to the techniques learned from your AdSense E-Book.
What else could I do to tweak a bit more out of this busy site without risking my baseline gross?

Why aren't there stringent laws to ban misleading ads online?
February 19, 2008 08:37 AM
Joel;
I was advised to start writing a blog about six months ago. I was told that I need to write one post with a link to script dojo. This I've done. In the meantime, I've been writing posts about me and my past experiences to start with, then I started writing about things that I've learned over the years and my opinion about current events. I guess you'd say, I have to be inspired in order to write anything, so I haven't written a whole lot. This was started in order to get some extra money comming in. I don't need to be millionaire, but SOMETHING would help. I keep checking the Google adsence report, and so far the total has been just over $5. I've written posts on a forum, tried going through Classmates, alumz, replying to someone elses blog, leaving a note to a manager of a non-fiction short story site, and trying to get a link to a current events newsgroup. I even left a message for you on "Ask Joel", asking you to read a few posts to see if you would consider putting a link from "WorldVillage" to my blog. I'm still waiting for answers from a few, but even with the increase in traffic that I have received, I still don't have anyone clicking on enough ads to generate any income. What is it that I haven't done or haven't been told how to do. I'm missing something, and I don't know what it is, and I can't afford all of those courses on my disability that I finally started receiving. Less than $1,000 a month just doesn't get it. I could get by on two thousand to twenty-five hundred a month, but no more than I making from the blog, I'm begining to doubt that I'll ever see anywhere near that much. Again, what am i missing, what do I need to do to get something comming in from my blog?????

Dear Joel,
What is the best way to automate a professional service oriented business? A service that requires maybe only 1 or 2 deals a month to do very well. For example, a solo head hunter working in a very specific niche...I welcome your insight.
February 19, 2008 08:42 AM
How to define and create a system of priority tasks for my business that I can execute daily that will add value and add to my bottom line.
Or maybe a better question is, how to eliminate the bad habits of doing dumb, time wasting tasks, that really don't do either of the above.
Maybe this is more of a mind set thing.
Thank you for the opportunity to ask.

Hello,
When selling a product as an affiliate, can I put my own web site up to pitch the product? Is there a protocol to follow? Can I use text or pics from the seller's sales page (with or without permission)? Do I have to link to the seller's sales page from mine? Or can I link straight to Clickbank? Do sellers like this because you are trying to sell their product, or not like it because they cannot control the presentation and image?
Thanks Joel!

Joel, thanks for asking what I want to know! After less than a year trying to learn, wading through the mud of online marketing products, services and coaching, I feel like I've got a hold on the foundation for my long-term business.
What I'd really love to hear from you is what makes a newbie stand out in the crowd? What do you see in a JV proposal for a product, service or person that makes you want to learn more? What is it about an approach to you personally for advice, coaching, whatever, that makes you interested enough to say "I need to know more!"?
There are so many fantastic people doing great things online, along with the mediocre efforts of some and the downright ridiculous wastes of time from others. It's tough to see the diamonds for the rockheads!
My goal is to produce quality products and services, become a valuable member of the online business community and provide a sustainable and prosperous lifestyle for myself and my family. What can I do to make you take notice of me?
Thanks again, Joel!
Will always check in to see what you're up to next ;-)

There is sooooooooo much out there in the way of building a home business, marketing through the internet, etc., etc. How the heck does the "common" person wade through all this stuff...and that's what it becomes is just stuff. I feel like if I studied it all 24/7 I would be no further than I am right now...discusted with it all. In fact I have taken myself off most of the emails I get because it's driving me crazy!!!!
Help us all.

Well Dr. Comm,
I appreciate how you pry into your readers minds and seek out what works for the customer, so that you will be able to better meet their needs online. This is of course, one of the tactics the better marketers have learned as well. For me, I need encouragement to persevere, but also need to find a better way to help convert subscribers to buyers, whether through affiliate products or my own. The next step is focusing on a profitable niche that converts well.
Thank you for reading!
Paul
P.S. You may remember last year receiving that "Ack!" mug shot!

After reading the other posts here, I decided that the thing that would have helped me the most (if I had gotten it earlier in my on-line career) would be some products that outlined all the steps needed to accomplish a specific business model.
For example, here are some business models that people could operate their on-line business under:
1) A site that primarily generates income through Adsense Ads. All the steps are given to get a domain, host it, put up pages, get an Adsense account, determine how to provide a secure download pages for digital products, take payments through PayPal, how to promote the site, etc. (all the things to get one site running under one single, simple business model).
2) A on-line business that sells CDs (some sort of digital product) on Ebay. How to set up the site, Ebay account, Ebay auctions, how to produce and deliver the product, how to promote the product, and references to other products that tell me how to create the digital product in the first place.
3) An on-line business that explains all the steps for selling other people's products (affiliate products). Tell me how to set up the site, how to find products to sell, how to take payments, how to promote, etc. Tell me how to operate a business running under the affiliate model.
4) A site running under a business model where the site owner has created their own PHYSICAL product and wants to sell it on-line. Tell me all the steps on how to do that. How do I produce it, or deliver it? What manufacturing resources are there that will help me get it produced?
5) A site running under a business model where the site owner has created their own digital product and wants to sell it on-line. Tell me all the steps on how to do that.
6) A site running under a business model where the site owner primarily uses drop shippers. Tell me all the steps and available resources that will get me going on that.
7) A site running under a monthly membership business model. What CMS system should I use? Joomla? Mambo? Tell me how to set up and promote this type of site.
8) A site running under the business model of giving away free stuff. How would I monetize this sort of site?
9) How to set up a site primarily running a "store" or shopping cart type of business model.
10) A business model where the "membership site" is an autoresponder series delivering weekly/monthly installments of a course. What are the steps for this type of business model?
I don't know of anyone on-line who has a COMPLETE PRODUCT LINE of all these different types of BUSINESS MODELS and how (step-by-step) to set one up and generate income.
All the traffic and list building products (or social bookmarking products, or ebook creation products) in the world won't matter if hundreds of thousands of people who want to start an internet business on-line can't figure out how to put all the pieces together to get something running first.
Normally, People starting out on-line get one small piece of their knowledge from this guru, another piece from that guru, etc. and then have to figure out for ourselves how to put all these pieces together to form a business. And you know that's not always easy when your shopping cart (for example) doesn't integrate with your credit card processor. If only someone would just give us all the steps to set up each different business model! A complete package of info that has already figured out which shopping carts (for example) work with what payment processors, and which autoresponders (for example) integrate with...(name your own system component here)...
If I was just starting out, I would easily pay several hundred dollars for a product that told me all the steps for starting an on-line business for any one of the business models that I previously mentioned. Why? Because I know that a product like that would save me thousands of hours of time trying to figure it out myself by listening to 40 different gurus who sometimes give conflicting information.
Geez, I just want an outline, then details on each step, and then resources on where to go for things that might be needed but might be a full course in themselves. Give me everything needed to start up--even if that one way isn't the only way. I don't want to know all the variations. I'm just trying to get my one site up and running for the specific business model that matches the way that I want to run my on-line business.
All the other stuff (list building, promotion, social bookmarking, SEO, etc) doesn't matter until the business model is actualized. THEN give me that stuff.
I wonder how many people tried to get something going but quit because there were just too many pieces of the puzzle for them to figure out all by themselves.
Anyway, you asked what's my biggest question about making money on-line. My question is really "Why hasn't somebody produced a product line of INTERNET BUSINESS MODELS for newbies? That's my question. Even if you don't plan on producing a business model product line, maybe someone else will. Or maybe, there's already a guru out there who has but I'm not on their list so I don't know about it.

All of the adverts that people like you send out, state that one can be making money very shortly after joining Google Adsense and writing blogs. How is this possible? I have thirteen blogs and have been trying to make money from them (blogs) for over two years, and I have gotten no where.
I do not own a server; but, have to rely on Google websites (blogs) in order to do my blog jobs.
I have never made a dime on the internet; but, you folks say how easy it is........WHY? I bought your book: "The Adsense Code" but have never made a dime.

The most important thing in online business in my view is selling a product/service people want to buy.
February 19, 2008 08:57 AM
Joel, my question is a simple one that requires a little introduction. You see, I have realized the potential of the internet for years and have invested in so many money making promises and schemes and skams that I am now getting weary of all the hype, which in my experience has only cost me money and never made any money. It seems that every time someone pitches the next latest and greatest internet opportunity----it turns out to a detailed course of 100 of the lastest E-books written by all the online gurus, CDs, DVDs, proprietary how to manuals, etc.---all of which require years of study, investement of time and money, and going to the school of hard knocks-trial-and-error experiences. Of course, the real agenda is that they are profiting from dozens of affiliate programs in selling you the how to info---which seldom actually works for the amateur!I am frankly SICK AND TIRED OF THOSE SKAMS---SO HERE IS MY SIMPLE QUESTION:
When is some online expert who already knows how to make money online going to offer a simple service in which all that is required is that you pay a monthly fee in order to have someone else who already has all the right knowledge do all the right things for you and keep your web site generating a consistent flow of traffic and sales?

Hi Joel
My question is quite simple. Lately we have been bombarded with courses teaching you how to get your business started. All these "gurus" claim to have started with nothing. They claim to have been in such a financial mess they did not even have enough money to buy a new computer. So why do they want so much money for their courses? I'm sure I am not the only one that cannot afford these courses. If they didn't have any money for courses how did they really get started?
February 19, 2008 08:59 AM
Hi Joel.
I read most of others comments, and I should say: most of these questions have already been answered by you.
But I can add my little brick to the building, even if it has been asked:
How can you take a ClickBank hop link, and eventually make money with that. Step by Step. Don't just tell: send a link to your mailing list, most of us don't have any emails in our list. Your guides are great, but sometimes it a bit confusing. I don't have a website with millions of visitors to promote my products.
A step by step working guide to attract a tons of visitors (for a short amount of time, as for ClickBank). Don't just say: post on forums, witch one? Don't just say: Get this great book! I don't have money. I already buyed more than 10 Ebooks (giving your commission every time) and I must admit that I'm a bit disappointed and discouraged.
Give us a guide that cover the HOWTO and not just a WHAT-YOU-CAN-HAVE-WITH-THAT. A step by step guide on making money with ClickBank, that's what I personnally want to hear from you.

Hi, Joel, I really think you are great - but sometimes I sit here and wonder if you actually make money. I am the webmaster of countyfairgrounds.net and we are in the intense process of converting the site to a database and rss feed system. It is wiping me out. We are now trying to install ssl with the php - its difficult. I need help badly and quickly in making money with the podcast system.
But, here is a question for you. I have so many online opportunities presented to me. I need one or two but cannot decide which are legitimate and which aren't - it has occurred to me that if so many of these online marketers are making so much money - why exactly are they trying to sell or give away the products they are pushing???
February 19, 2008 09:12 AM
My biggest question:
How could I get traffic to my adsense websites? I have about 5-10 visitors per day - for all my websites together! Very sad.
February 19, 2008 09:14 AM
Joel, if you have a product in a particular niche, such as I have in home health care, how is the best way to find affiliates and JV partners? I have a great product, video, was hoping you would see my product on the hot seat at JV Alert but you got sick and had to leave early, and want to really determine how to build this business. It's been a great couple of years as I've spend the time and money to learn from the best....however, no one can help me determine how to sell my product and how to get partners outside of the internet marketing niche.

Hey Joel,
I'm only four days into SET UP phase of affiliate marketing i.e. getting into my back office, setting up autoresponder, being sure my links are correct, coordinating these things with my squeeze page, etc.
I'm so new, I don't know which questions to ask...although, I can the writing on the wall...HOW DO YOU CREATE A LIST? How can I be making a profit, not a substantial profit, but enough profit within 30 days to cover the small expenses I am paying out to set up?
Additionally, I think as I begin building this business, I will need my own web page. Any advice...uh, like where do I begin?
I have just started preparing articles to submit to ezines and forums...What are the pros and cons to writing up to three articles per day? I realize I will need an article submitting service, but what is your opinion of have a service write the articles for me, at least for now? When I actually have more of an understanding and wider scope, I can see writing my own, but until then...
Thanks Joel,

Besides selling marketikng info to other on line marketers, (I get an inbred feeling on this) what other markets are really working to validate the idea of on line marketing and what is their success ($) like?
February 19, 2008 09:24 AM
I have a number of e-books to sell which I have got from Private Label Rights Package I bought. The problem I keep coming up against is to know how to sort out how to do it. I have tried putting a Paypal button on a site with little or no effect. Also have no idea on how to send the download when they buy, automaticly. So all these wonderful packages I own I can not find a way to place them on the net to sell properly.
I am looking for a simple method which I know there must be to acheive my goal.

Good Morning Joel,
Thank you for the opportunity to say I am constantly testing the great promisors of the internet. I feel for all of the people out there that have scammed or schemed. In the past two years I have invested several hours searching for the right people to affiliate with. I use Google as my reference book and guide to what works. I found you through the Warrior all though I am not a joiner I followed the path to your door. I am impressed with your internetude. I started out to build a website joined an affiliate group. I found out about blogger I have published 15 since November 2007 but I have 51 backed up in word ready to publish. First I must get your Adsense program down pat. I am blogging my affiliate links and plan to use Adsense as an income source. Can you and Charles Trippy put something together so I can learn how to build a video blog with Adsense. Keep up the good work. You are a great leader.
Thanks a million Terry in NC

I RARELY post twice but after reading some of my colleague's posts I feel compelled to post again. Every question I have seen posted here is answered in Joel's Next Internet Millionare Secret Classroom Home Study course. Order it and the BackRoom Secrets and you will be on your way. I started internet marketing 3 months ago, although I have been a subscriber to Matt Bacak's Internet DIRT newsletter for over a year. I'm well on my way to replacing my current six figure income from my lifelong current job (extremly boring). If you cant afford $177.00 a month for 3 months then you really can't afford to be in the internet marketing business.

I live in Nepal. I am not perfect in computer. I have no money to participate in programme and purchase material. Who help me and How I will be success in Internet Marketing?
February 19, 2008 09:42 AM
Joel,
I figure you're asking this question to get more ideas for future articles. Nothing like asking the people who are going to read your newsletter what they want.
But I have to say, that your newsletter is the one I read the most because it has the most relevant information. Sometmes I'll only read 105 or less of the other ones out there, even Rich Shefren's and Perry Marshall's newsletters.
Ya gotta be doin sumptin right!
February 19, 2008 09:42 AM
My question is about traffic - specifically blog traffic. A lot of gurus are saying that a blog is the solution to your traffic problems. But my experience has been that it's just another website that I am NOT getting traffic to.
I have a Wordpress blog on my own host, SEO plugins installed, I use keywords in my titles and add relevant tags, a list of services are pinged each time I post, but still I get no traffic. The benefit to my main site has been nil and I am spending hours of my limited time posting when I could be working on my other sites.
So my question is, how do I get traffic to my blog? I have noticed a trend recently. I am on a lot of lists and most people don't put any information in their emails any more. They,(including you Joel), just say 'go and read about this on my blog'. Do you have to have a list in order to get traffic to your blog?
Cheers
Rich

Once you get a site up and running, what are the best ways to effectively and affordably get traffic to the site?
February 19, 2008 09:53 AM
My biggest question is "How can I earn the first $100 to 1 million dollars completely from my home office?" There are a myriad of ways to do this as I have found out over the last few years researching and testing the waters.
From network marketing to mlm to ebay to affiliate marketing to web 2.0 content producing to multiple niche sites to adsense minisites to copywriting, (with MEMBERSHIP SITES being an option for any one of these ideas!) are interests that I could take further, but haven't been committed enough to do it yet.
From reading other's comments, it really is clear that Connecting The Dots is a great phrase for what many have come across. In my online travels, I have uncovered many fantastic resources and teachers & mentors, developed many skills and improved my level of expertise in some areas, and now the trick is to put it all together into a cohesive plan for an income that is well above expenses and can create value to others. That is the ticket!
One of the issues that I have found is that live events are eventually not only encouraged but required for further instruction, networking, and 'going to the next level'. Travel just isn't comfortable for me. I have enjoyed what travel I've done for business, but I prefer to stay close to the home base, utilizing technology to connect to those I can assist.
So working within those parameters, I am looking forward to the frution of what Create Your Dream, Inc. will look like by the end of 2008!
best,
Mary

Hi Joel,
Thanks for the opportunity! There are so many possible ways to earn money online, and so much information available about how to do that, it's simply overwhelming. And some of it's sheer rubbish.
So my question would be:
What would you do, if you only had $100 to spend, that would ensure you a steady income of at least $1000 within 6 months? I would love to know your thinking about this question, because if a person can see how to reach a bigger goal ($1000/month consistently) then the process can be duplicated and multiplied over and over again.
You can use any techniques you like but you can't use tools a new person would not have -- give us the bare bones/budget path to get going into making serious money, without requiring a huge investment of cash up front.
I think this is the dilemma many of us face -- a lot of my coaching clients start out there -- so I'd love to have you remove the "obstacles" that stop us from going forward even (especially) when we think we can't.
Thanks!
Nancy

Why is it that all the info you get about business is in pieces? Why doesn't anyone assume everyone is a newbie and give step by step instructions on what to do from beginning to end of setting up a business?
How to chose a product or use your own? (step by step)
How to set up a autoresponder?(step by step)
How to do a squeeze page and get all this uploaded to a website?(step by step)
How to build a website etc.?(step by step)
I'm not a newbie but there are still steps in all of these that I just don't get. And it gets very confusing to go out and find all this stuff and then try to make sense out of it. Much less actually use it.
And another thing anyone can find the advertising sites even the free ones.
I'd just like to see someone do something that takes you step by step thru
each of these steps until you are to the point that all you have to do is advertise.

February 19, 2008 10:03 AM
You wanted me to ask what it takes to make money on-line; My question is a little more extensive than that so please bare with me.
I know it takes an original idea and many hours of tedious typing at the computer to get an on-line business going but what I really don't understand is how people are making money off of cookie cutter e-businesses. I have tried several of these on-line get rich with little effort opportunities and one almost worked but I still got burned in the end; not only did my pocket take a hit but more importantly my reputation took a beating and it has taken a long time to recover from that. So again I reiterate ;How are people making money off these cookie cutter e-businesses?
February 19, 2008 10:04 AM
My biggest question is how to get people to read your marketing e-mails. I really struggle to creating grabbing headlines and they aren't performing. Any tips?
February 19, 2008 10:09 AM
How do you get an email opened, read, and that somebody to react to it,
has it got to be a story, poem, free gift or a compelling read?

I am confused with the many offers from many guys. How will you know which one works and which one does not.
February 19, 2008 10:29 AM
Frankly Joel your materials are faultless. It seems to me i do not know how to effectively promote what you give out.i.e the dept of it.For the MM site we just promote it yet we want to make money.i think you should take time to educate me more

I would like to know how to research potential niche markets to come up with a profitable one. Also, in the same vein, how to take my personal interests and find the niche that keeps me involved and interested as well as turning a profit.
February 19, 2008 10:47 AM
So many questions but I think my foremost question is how to find a mentor or experienced internet marketers who will provide guidance or answer basic questions when a roadblock is hit. All the top gurus are not available. Those that are available are most likely in the same boat as me, to some degree. I've been to seminars, bought many expensive courses and still having trouble with the technology side of things. Like where do I find a template to write a sales letter or a forced opt-in page?
Thanks

How do you make money online????
I am still trying to find that answer. I have a few sites up and running and a couple of Blogs and only made 1 sale in 6 months. I have spent about 2 grand and monthly charges of about $300.00 and there are more ideas everyday that want more money for the answers. I have listened to your millionaire program and spent time on webinairs at great expense and after all that I am missing something that puts it all together. I have signed up for a few of those social sites and spend time answering those who respond but still no sales. I am signed up with affiliate programs and have 8 to 10 domain names already, but feel lost in the technical end. I still need the answer to put all those eggs in the right order to be successful. I still have time but running out of money and patients.

Hi Joel, looks like I'm #104. Hope you're still up to reading this many posts.
Just getting into network marketing online. I have experience with network marketing offline. I have a product to sell and a niche to exploit. After looking into many Guru's website's and reading their "stuff" I've determined the best way for me to exploit my product and niche is to JV with one of you Guru's. Because, without that initial advantage, I will start out slowly and I don't want to start out slowly. i want to get rich quickly and the fastest way I see it is to partner up with somebody that already has a responsive list. I know Yanik did it that way, I know Jim Edwards did it that way, etc. So, how should I go about soliciting for a JV partner that wants to partner with me in my niche with my product? I just read an article by Mike Filsaime and Ellie Drake about network marketing online and they call it netweb marketing. I want to do that so can you help me out here? I don't want to give away my product just yet but my niche is in the $250 Billion emissions market. I know I can get some of that market.
February 19, 2008 11:10 AM

I have a web site, an auto responder, a blog with adsense and also using adwords. I have yet to make anything. Zero. My question is: when do you think it's time to give up and start over? I hear all the time, just hang in there. What do I do?
Make it a great day,

so my questions is, does this email marketing really works? or do we need million of opt-in for it to work.

Joel, I don't want to sell anybody else's stuff, I don't want to be an affiliate marketer. I want to sell my own e-book, what is the first thing I should do?
And there are so many systems that you have to implement to be sucessful. But it seems you need 20 hands to do everything, what one thing do you do that you do over and over again, that would be a good focus of my time.

I have some affiliate programs, but no list to advertise. I have numerous traffic exchanges to place my ads. These are the free ones. My question is: Is there a program or software where you can place one ad and it will place that ad into all the traffic exchange progams at one time? Save time and energy. I am very limited with money so I can't afford to purchase List Joe and ViralURL ListBandit and other targeted list programs to place solo ads and frequently either. Placing 500 ads in a week on List Joe/ViralURL list builders just aint going to get my affiliate programs seen and I think that is why we fail miserably because we give up trying. I am not talking about advertising in the FFA links pages. thank you

Hi,
A lot of people have ambitions to make money online. I think that the 'Internet Mkt' industry oversells the possibilities. The reality is that most poeple will not make large sums..more like 'yard sale income' than 'Walmart profits'.
So they should focus on something that they have knowledge of and enjoy and further they should be prepared for a long haul say 6 to 12 months before achieving even this modest income level.
If they perservre into their 2nd yr they may then able to build upto a higher but still modest level income.
My request therefore is for a clear step by step plan (actions to be taken - goals to be achieved) against which progress over a 12 - 18 month period could be measured.

we grow a mutually rewarding business relationship.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Dear Joel:
My question is simple. I am a web designer trying to start my own web design company. How can I get new clients for my company when they ask to see my portfolio, but I can not build up my portfolio without clients? It's like I'm im a catch 22.

I have an E-commerce Engineer degree and I'm writing out my business plan now for my web-design company. I only want to do custom informational web design. Do you think there is a market out there for just that? I am steering clear from building e-stores. For simplicity for the consumer and myself. Marketing mostly for small businesses. Do you think this is a good idea? If so, I was told to charge from one peron $250.00 a page and $75.00 each additional page. Then, I was told not to under charge. So, then I was told to charge $450.00 for the first page and $150.00 each additional page. Which one would you go with? If any?
Thank you!

WOW! What a response you got here!
First of all, for those who don't think it will work, it will not work for them. Too cynical, most of them.
But for those who have the patience and ability to create their own voice, it can and will happen.
I think that sooner you create your unique voice and get people who resonate with your voice the sooner you will make money. On or Off the Internet.
Joel, If you could do one thing to help me that would be to keep us up to date with the newest technologies to help get our message out to the people we resonate with.
Thanks,

Interesting poll, seems that there is a LOT of confusion out there. I can see why, who do you believe to solve your specific problem for your site? What with all the "experts" saying do it this way, do this, do that, Geez!
Well, it appears my new "product" will help newbies solve this dilemma!
My request: Need some kind of very specific guide to marketing a new product,-email list, blogging, social, pre-launch, sales letter, JV,etc.
The whole process start to finish.

Dear Joel,
What is the most uncomplicated idea to earn money on the net? Thank you.
February 19, 2008 01:08 PM
Why do you still work so hard and send out a lot of newsletters each month, when earning so much money with Adsense is so easy.
You've already made it. You are one of the Adsense winners, earning a lot of money each day, without working on it anymore.
But why do you still work on it?
February 19, 2008 01:13 PM
Hello Joel, Well people only buy what they want, not what they need.
Finding out what people really want is the key, getting them to
buy from you,makes you rich.
Please teach us all the system.
Thank You

Hi Joel;
How do you get them to open the email read it and take action?
Do I need to be a poet, raconteur, story teller, or a comedian?
February 19, 2008 01:26 PM
Looks like all the same questions. Great job Joel it is such a reminder that most people are in the same boat.
I see focus, know how, and motivation as the consistent theme in all of the questions. Same as it was last year, the year before and the year before.
The question is not without...It is within. You have the answer you just have to find it inside you. Once you decide it then everything you study and do should answer your question.
Joel how do you find the answer to that question?
February 19, 2008 01:27 PM
hi joel, i would like to know what the outside is loking for. fro example i want to become a paid viral video comedian but i"m not that popular so do you have any help on getting known?

What equipment is required to run a profitable on line business?
Purchasing without knowing I will use the purchase is not something I am into.
If the on line business is as good as claimed, you should provide each of you affiliates with a complete hardware system preloaded with the on line business software and take your profit from theirs.
What equipment is required to run a profitable internet business, is my question. It seems that today when a purchase is made, another purchase is required to make the first purchase workable.
February 19, 2008 01:37 PM
Hey Joel,
I've read through many of the comments left here and I find that many have the same needs as I. I am the proverbial "Newbie" as well, struggling and bumbling along, convinced that this is a viable endeavor and just looking for the way that works.
I need a Mentor. Not a handout, not a get-rich-quick-scheme, not another buy this - it will get you on your way package, I need a Mentor.
Any ideas for me?
February 19, 2008 01:41 PM
My biggest question is that how do you find or take something that's original, not another me too program, and build a sustainable online business? Then once you find that how do you market it?
It seems as if everyone is so focused on making the next buck but no one is truely willing to take you by the hand from A to Z or if they are they want to charge you $3000 or more. if I had that disposable income laying around I wouldn't be looking for an opportunity
Also I feel there is too much guesswork, you become overwhelmed, then give up , buy into the next biggest promise and keep repeating the crazy cycle over and over again, getting more broke!
Personally I'm sick with it all I'm looking for something simple, straight-forward that I can learn then teach others in an supportive and sincere environment. Not just wonder how I can suck another dollar out of them.
February 19, 2008 01:41 PM
How do I find the right sales methods that don't cost an arm and a leg but actually get me customers not just visitors?
February 19, 2008 01:46 PM
Joel,
How do find affiliates to help market a low-cost product? I have a book, (fiction) and almost everything out there is how to market a business ebook that costs $70 or more. How do you get someone to help when its a $10-$20 work of fiction? The margins will be even less when it goes up on Amazon. Can you help with this one?
Thanks,
Shawn

What is your study curriculum?
Who do you read after?
Does anyone have a comprehensive system on how to get started?
February 19, 2008 02:40 PM
Joel, last question of the day. If I PayPal you $300 would you be able to have Ryan Lee or you email me or call me by midnight? You have my numbers. I am one of your customers.

Joel and company,
Thank you for an opportunity of a lifetime!
This is a software recommendation question. If there is, what is the best and most all encompassing software system to use to automate, what can be automated in your business system, and that would have as many features as possible that a person would need to run an online business? Versus the option of trying to piece together automation, autoresonder, shopping cart, security.... just as examples of what I am trying to get at here in my question. Or at least if that's not possible, then the list of the most effective and multi-featured softwares to use. Not a pitch for anyone in particular, but recommended resources.
Thank you again!

Hi Joel,
Thanks for the opportunity. My question is: what are the best tactics for the pre-launch and the launch of a new product? I am planning to open a new web site with a new concept. I know that no matter how good a new product is, the pre-launch can make a big difference for the success of it.
Sincerely,

After reviewing all the questions that have already been submitted, I also see a trend-a-growing here...Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Internet Marketing questions. I don't think I necessarily have one single most important question that needs to be anwsered...there are too many and with each stage of growing my business questions are anwsered and new ones pop up. So, what I believe everyone needs is a down and dirty, cut the cr*p, no beating around the bush, no holds barred, SIMPLE, Step-by-Step Guide or Action Plan to follow. I don't believe that you would have to develope it yourself. You pretty much have it already with the many affiliatations you have with the "masters" of the internet. You did a great job of pulling all these people together for "The Next Internet Millionaire" series. If anyone watches this series you will pick up great tidbits and wonderful connections to the these people. Just watching the segment with Mark Joyner was an eye-opener for me. I would love to see another "Next Internet Millionaire"...the internet has already changed vastly from just a few short months ago.
If anything, I believe the novice internet entrepreneur is overwhelmed by all the twists on the same theories of internet marketing. If I have to click down another landing page I think I will scream! I don't have the time or the brain capacity to sit through everyone's sales pitch, read every newsletter/emails or even drop by the web site for tips and tricks. I grow tired and frustrated with just trying to get things in motion...time is of the essence...and when I get stuck on one problem that has me spinning my wheels until I find the guy/gal with the right anwser in the language that I can understand....PLUS I don't have the money or the time to do a whole class to get a few anwsers...I have more than a day or two work...my blog has been neglected and business slows.
What I need is REAL TIME problem solving...someone to talk me through adding HTML to my blog so I can have "Read more"....talk me through an ADSense question, problem or addition to my site, anwser my question concerning Google and what is allowed and not allowed, direct me to the best PPC...most importantly...not have to pay someone to critque my blog or web site. I would definately scratch someone else's back in this instance if they would scratch mine....I believe this is called networking. Surprisingly enough I have found alot of this on Facebook...but still having to spend time filtering everything that is there also.
So, I guess the question I have for you Joel is: What is the best system to use to weed and feed your internet marketing business, without wasting precious time and spending top dollar to do it?
Sorry this was so long.

Can u suggest a website creation tool or a company which helps to build a step by step website and add all the things you. I mean a complete website creation package. I have come across one which sells for $299 USD. Is it worth to pay someone this money if they explain you all the SEO and Keyword techniques to build a profitable website just say for your small business. they claim that you don't need to know anything about websites if you are using their tool. Can u please let know if such a thing can exist or if its existence is worth what they are claiming.
Thanks,,,

Hi Joel,
I love what you are doing for people with helping them get into internet marketing and the sheer genorosity with the stuff you give away, as a successful salesman with 45 years experience in the field and having made my £ millions, I am trying hard to do it again in retirement for the fun of it, however I can't get past the technology of creating the whiz website stuff. The logical answer would be to buy someone to do it for me, however there will be many more duffers like me who can't do it and who cannot afford that kind of help. Give us more help on site creation so that we can make your teaching work.
Keep up the great work you are already doing
Don.

Hi Joel,
love your posts; this is a great idea too!
I have a couple of WP blogs with Adsense & loads of free info/downloads; I've written articles for submission to directories, as a means of driving traffic, but so far, so slow! I am on a very limited (almost zero) budget, as I lost my job so can't "go big" on adwords; any suggestions for good traffic generation would be hugely appreciated!
Best wishes,
Tracey

Hi Joel,
I really appreciate everything you are doing to help drive the learning curve for the growth of internet marketing. Your generosity in the support and things you give away are an inspiration.
Having spent 45 successful years in the field selling and coaching I am trying to make it work on the web.
However the inability to make a website that works is holding me up, you can tell that from the poor state of my existing site that has good content but no hits, It's the technology thats the problem.
The easy answer would be to hire someone to do it for me, however there are a lot of duffers like me who will not be able to afford to pay. More help on website creation will get more people up there routing for you.
Keep up the good work.
Don.
February 19, 2008 04:37 PM
what i would really love is a test case example where you start off with NO LIST, only 100$ (after buying hosting), in which to make a website (whatever kind you want) which generates enough money to support itself within a reasonable amount of time (one or 2 months) just to show that it is possible.
With no under-handed scamming of the surfers also.
Kick up a new site old school with no help from any buddies. Don't show us the url. Because that would give the site thousands of visitors right away. Just proof that you did it alone and that it works. And that it will generate income more than what you spend on it.

Hi Joel
My main concerns are;
- Web site security,
- Protecting my merchant partners unique URL codes, legal cloking?
- Getting the web site infrastructure right.
I am in the process of recruiting independent JV partners to take the business forward, so i am sure with the knowledge i learn from leaders such as yourself and combine it with the new partners skills that will be brought to the table it will all come together when its ready to!
Thank you!

I can appreciate and understand what everyone here has posted.
It all seems to make sense that all the people here are struggling
in some way shape or form. I don't think that any business is easy
to start and will never happen over night and you should have a realistic
time frame to build it. With that said....I agree there doesn't seem to
be a serious step by step approach to any type of online business to witch you can choose and follow without trying to figure it out and putting all
the pieces together. I think there is some great opportunities and money
to be made online, but for the most part you need to develop your own
product to make any serious cash!
Joel~ My questions is....Now that you have all this info, what are you
going to do about IT!
step by step blueprint...

Joel,
Thanks for the opportunity to sound off. How do I drive traffic to a blog or website? Every biz opportunity claims to reveal within their program the "secrets" of getting web traffic. Sooo, what are these secrets? I need some inexpensive ideas as well as the more expensive ones. Like others, I would like to make money with a blog, but haven't come up with an appropriate subject. Any ideas? What is the best way to make good money with a blog and how do I learn about doing one? I'm a newbie here.
If I'm not being too lengthy, I have another question concerning opportunities that don't require selling -- which I prefer. Things like surveys (I haven't made a dime yet. They either don't accept me or they only reward points or they enter me into a drawing that I probably won't win or I have to subscribe to a service I don't want before I can get paid)or like IVAA.org or virtualassistantjobs.com which offer office work and editing and proofreading opportunities. If I sign up, will I REALLY get any work? Are there enough jobs for all the people looking for them? ALSO, WHAT OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE WHICH DON'T REQUIRE SELLING?
Thanks, Joel
Lona

I want to sell my books, but I don't want to self publish them. How can I decide on a simple product to make to bring in right now money so that I can spend more time on my writing instead of working two jobs?
I will say that one way to learn how to do an online business is to intern with James Braush. I am learning a lot from him about what to do when you have a product. The price is right, and he does pay if you do the tasks assigned according to directions.

Hello Mr. Comm,
First, let me say that I liked your book "Adsense Code" and I think it will be very helpful when I'm ready to use the info.
My burning question to you is: How do I conduct research to find some profitable niche markets? I need the "put tab A into slot B" kind of instruction, with no generalizations. There has got to be some other way to do research effectively, other than Overture and free Wordtracker searches. I have heard the old "fail fast" song, but I can only afford to fail fast a finite amount of times before it's game over. Please do a post on this topic, if you are able. Thank you,
Dragoon

Hello Joel,
My problem with Internet Marketing is my list, it is small and it not getting bigger soon enough to produce good revenue.
I try all kind of "secrets revealed" but is not moving as I wish.
I don't want other secrets or seminars, I want some commen sens, down the earth friendy help.
The competition is other issue and Info Overload is out of hand.
I also need some help to sell an eBook.

===========================================================================
Hello Joel.
You have ALREADY answered 99.9% of the questions I previously had, by producing The Secret Classroom series which I purchased without hesitation. (Thanks for including the Adsense Secrets DVD - it's awesome). I WILL be taking all that I have learned from The Secret Classroom DVD's and will be sharing with as many people as I can via my website, helped by a little green Alien I found in my backyard.
The Internet is forever changing and eveyone should be aware of that. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow. The Secret Classroom covered all of the bases, ensuring that recipients can predict when the 'shifts' will occur and they can profitably change their focus accordingly.
It is obvious from the comments that have been posted already, that there are many SCREAMING out for this type of assistance. Only those who are REALLY serious will follow up. The rest will continue chasing their tails and continue to lose money buying into whatever is 'popular' at the time.
GUIDANCE and ADVICE is what everyone is asking for - not the 'BUY this and succeed' kind of advice, but the 'DO THIS step by step' advice, which is far more valuable. OK, purchasing the right 'tools' to achieve this is still necessary, but, as the saying goes, "If you expect something good for nothing, that's exactly what you'll get - something that is good-for nothing!"
Now, the 0.1% question that I would like to ask you, is:
Is there ANY chance that you could leave your 'back door access key' under the mat? I would love to sneak in and view the MASTER at his desk and give him MY eBook to read, so he could promote it to HIS list and make even more money for us both.
One thing that everyone reading this must realize, is that when an opportunity presents itself, you would be doing yourself an HUGE injustice by not taking advantage of it.
OK - I have to admit that reading the majority of posts depressed me because of all the negativeness being vented. I feel the frustration and just wish I could contact every one of you and offer some comfort. Maybe you will follow me up and see if we can assist each other?
I am off to play with my puppy dog to get me back into the right frame of mind to continue doing what I love to do - absorb the wonders of the Internet.
I wish you all a pleasant experience.
And Joel, I patiently await your reply when you are able to do so. All of my other emails to you have been answered promptly and courteously, another reason YOU are NUMBER 1 on my 'people to listen to and be involved with' list.
Thank you.
February 19, 2008 08:10 PM
How in the world do you get started while working a full time job? I'm exausted when I come home and try to do things little by little. But so far, it seems like I still just have a little!
February 19, 2008 08:34 PM
Joel my answer to you is this I'm tired of all the B.S. the hype and all the long sales letters that I will not put my mind through it all again if some one wants me to know some thing and they have a long sales letter I delete them Imeadiately even yours.
Why can't internet people get it through their heads, and get to the point, and they will sell a hell of a lot more products, if they want a long sales page put it into an article, and let people read it that way but i've had enough of all this internet sh*T i'm out of here, there are no simple ways any more, so (I'm looking for the simple ways to make it online) are you with me. great lets get it back to Basics.
Regards Tamara.

For me, the missing piece of the puzzle is: How to choose a niche that buys.
I know how to drive traffic to my sites, but if you don't have willing and buying customers, all your marketing efforts go in vain.
I have no problem doing keyword research and can find niches that way, but how do you weed through them and find the gems that are willing to actually click through to your site and buy something.
So many of the niches that I find have the "freebie mentality" or there is already a ton of free stuff available for them on the front pages of the search engines. So, I don't get the sale.
This same principle applies to affiliate marketing. I'm finding that conversion rates suck for many of the products that aren't in the marketing/make money online category. (I try to stay clear of promoting affiliate programs in the marketing/make money online category because of the saturation and very high costs of keywords.) How to choose an affiliate program that converts before you go broke?
There are some psychological aspects involved. I've got a lot more thoughts on this subject, but won't elaborate here.
I've been thinking about this for some time and considered doing the research and making my own product about this, but if you could help me out with this missing piece of information, I'd be forever grateful!
Thanks for the opportunity,
Lisa

I have an idea for my own ebook. I have the motivation and the writing skills to complete it. So the problem is not creating my product. What I want to know is what I should start doing after the last sentence is typed. Is there a solid step-by-step specific plan I should follow to market my ebook?
February 19, 2008 08:56 PM
Hi Joel,
I have one for you! Here's the scenario...
YOU lost everything! You must start over. You are now working 9 - 5 in "corporate sales" and have maybe 15-20 hours a week to commit to an online business.
You have NO LIST, nothing. You are starting over. You only have a few hundred dollars to get started. Yeah, this is a grind but given what you know now what would be your first steps? Building a list? Picking a niche and driving PPC to a squeeze page?
Sir, this is your 30 day challenge starting with NOTHING. How much revenue would you come out with on the other side after 30 days? $500? $1,000?
Thanks in advance for reading!

I believe I have finally come across a great market where I will actually be filling a need and have even checked out the competition and am currently working with a person who is going to be moving from the competition to use my services instead. I am currently putting several things in place that will improve drastically on what the competition is doing helping them do things more efficiently so they can be more productive in their businesses but the problem I have is that it is just me right now working with just this one person. I see this opportunity turning into something much bigger then I could possibly handle on my own as this one person has already said several of her collegues are on board as well once it is ready. Should I get the JV's and outsourcing lined up before any money is coming in so everything is in place when needed and how is the best way to go about doing that?
I look forward to hearing your response to my questions.
Thank you,
Lori

I have a number of blogs. They are all on different topics (swimming, Judo, picnics) but I just don't have the time to publish to them everyday. Would it make sense to combine them into one blog or would that just be counter productive.
February 19, 2008 09:25 PM
I have a big problem. Newbie problem. I just want to learn everything. I can't focus. How do you face this when you start your first career in internet marketing?
February 19, 2008 09:31 PM
How can I get an online business without buying anything from you (or your affiliates)? I won't do that. That only makes YOU money.
I'm with Tamara -- if it's a long sales letter (I look at the bottom of the page first) and then delete it quick without even finding out what it's about.
How can I set up an online business without sucking in others to buy the same thing I did (trying to get my money back) so as to get them to try and sell it to someone else? I won't do that.
If I have a conscience, do I have to remain at my present job?
February 19, 2008 09:47 PM
Hi Joe;. L really don't have any q's. at the moment. but I do have a comment and this isn,t just for you. Some of the other subscribers and I not trying to be critical. And I will have to remember myself when I get up. The legnth of this letter. We all get hyped up w/wanting to share;that
we forget that our subscribers are busy And they aren't looking to do a whole lot fo testimonial reading. We don't mind reading some and share input from there but not six pages coming at ya. Maybe put them on another
page w/the option to read. For me this was deffinately too long. but good.
As for myself I have been in several other businesses so basically the biggest problem I'm having is getting a site up. I have no tech skills but I have everything I need to do so. and I will leran. thanks. See this letter was too long.

If you are just starting out how do you build a list? It seems that a list is the blood life of your ability to succeed online.
It seems that the gurus give or sell the information just when that method or trend is about to become dated and the market is saturated. They give the information when they are off to the next big thing or have already made the money using whatever method or trend.
How do you stay ahead of the curve or how do you get in while it's hot.
How about some step-by-step. Gurus say buy this and put it out there and you too will become successful, but it doesn't work that way, they seem to leave out intricate details that can make or break your chances of success - hence the need for step-by-step, please.
If you are a newbie starting out, how do you really drive traffic to your site? How do you really get ranked top spot on google for your niche, product or market?
I believe in working hard to achive whatever goals you have, but what about the guy with limited financial resources? Most people trying to make it online don't have big budgets, that's why we're online trying to make money and have fun while doing it.
I'm off to watch Adsense Secrets Live dvd!

Hi. My name is Kuni. I'm an Internet marketer in Japan.
Many people say that response of e-mail campaingn is going down.
It could be that deliverability is not as good as a few years ago
and spam filters are too strict.
My question is...what are you going to do if e-mail marketing dies?
What's the alternatives of e-mail marketing?

There are so many Online Marketing Gurus. Who should be trusted and followed.
Without a Guru it is like walking in dark-directionless.
Your advice wil greatly help me and thousands of new aspiring youngsters who wish to make a living through internet.
Thanks

Thanks for the opportunity Joel!
I have a great product that took 3 years to develop, so my questions is this:
I know it's not enough to have a great product - how do I approach or get in touch with the "right" people for this product or maybe a mentor that can direct me in the right direction and give advice?
Thanks a mill.

Hi Joel,
First and foremost thank you for the opportunity to ask this question. I have never seen this addressed and it is a hold-up of major proportions to me getting started.
Question: My entire career I have been involved in the technical aspects of industrial plant construction, mainly oil field and mining. An engineering designer by trade I was often the "go to guy" to get things done, even if it meant outside the box thinking, which it usually did. Now, my skills (Industrial Safety Systems, Control and Automation, Electrical and Fire and Explosion prevention system) would bring a premium if I were able to continue to work that venue. However, think as I might 2+ years now, I have not been able to find a way to relate those technical skills to any niche I have found on line. I have been blessed with a very analytical mind but the solution to this problem eludes me.
Perhaps someone looking in from a different perspective can see what I have not been able to.
Thanks again for this opportunity.
Ken

Assume that I have set the business from website, to the product and all, the website is being viewed by public HOW DO I GET THE CONTACTS OF MY CLIENTS?
February 20, 2008 12:49 AM
Hey Joel,
I'm dying to start driving traffic to my website, but the only problem is I don't have a website! Not one that is really worth driving traffic to anyway. What I need is the knowledge to put together a website and the tools to do it with. I'm stuck on the technical stuff - html, graphics, scripts, etc. What are the best site-building tools and what's the fastest way to get a website (as well as squeeze pages, sales pages, all kinds of pages) up and running?
Also, I would be interested in comparisons of different web hosts, paricularly with regard to their site building programs, with tips on how to best take advantage of each of them.
Also what is your opinion of what I call "instant websites" which you see so many offers for, where you download a digital store or an Adsense website. Which ones are the best (if any)?
I guess what I'm asking is, how the heck do you create a great website?
P.S. If you're not interested in getting into such minutiae, could you recommend another resource that covers website creation in a comprehensive way? Thanks so much.

My question is -
Is there any way to earn big with programs such as adsense and other affiliate programs (clickbank , amazon etc.) wothout havin' to spend even a single buck ?
You wud say yes but i mean without a domain or webhosting setup etc..
I'm actually a young teen & thus can't spend online usin' my personnel credit card (which isn't in place yet !).
Although I've got one check from adsense (thnx to my freely hosted website and blogs) ... but my goals are high !

I like getting traffic on my site . But does it requires to many website ?
February 20, 2008 01:40 AM
Well, how come we are all struggling and getting only a few dollars here and there, yet there are people like you who make so much... Is it a matter of money makes money? I mean, you do have ALOT of money Joel, so you can get an idea and afford to spend quite alot initially simply to get it working, but for the most of us... well, we only have a few hundred AT MOST! Shoestring budgets more like it, and if we invest alot of our money into the website (and by that I mean getting adwords going in the high numbers), we either don't pay rent, mortgages or fill our fridges!
So, how DO you get to earn the big five figures per month when we can only afford a little in order to get the traffic in?
Thanks for the opportunity to let my voice be heard.
PS I do think you are very good to want to help us achieve our financial dreams.

answering web designer Guillermo Gonzalez' question yesterday:
"I get new clients for my company when they ask to see my portfolio, but I can not build up my portfolio without clients? It's like I'm im a catch 22."
Guillermo, make about five to ten superduper pages in different niches, show them on your own superduper website - and advertise on- and offline.

Hi Joel,
I have 2 questions.
1. Is it really important to get good ranking on the Search Engines and how to do that with a brand new site. I have tried every thing taught/suggested by almost every Guru and yet my site is not ranked and always show up linked to somebody and never on my own merit/keywords.
2. Is there a software that can track affliate sales without always having to check at the affiliate's site?
Looking forward to your answer. If you really read all the questions posted here. LOL
Thanks

What is a realistic income target for Internet marketing? I currently make about $140K per annum working as a business software consultant. If I can devote up to 50 hours a week to IM activities, how likely, and quickly, am I to be able to fully replace that level of income? N.B. I have a downloadable audiobooks business that is ready to launch - if I had the time - and I know enough about website building to start rolling out mini-sites pretty quickly.

Hi Joel,
I bought your $2000 package at the never work again seminar in orlando with T. Harv Eker. I started to read your material and the first step says build a good website. I have started and stopped several times and have nothing of value...yet. The net is that so far I don't feel that i have received any value from your material because I am starting from so far back. I should have waited to purchase your materials. I expect that you have updated some of it by now. I was really enthused at the time and don't know if your material is still valuable given that it has been almost a year and I have not started to make use of it. Do you have any suggestions? Some direction "how to get started" would be good.
An actual reply from you would be appreciated.
Thanks much,
Bob K

Two years ago I didn't know how to turn a computer on. Today I have a website, an ebay store, have read and watched the experts and been involved in a mentoring programme. Like everyone else, getting traffic would be the hardest although I haven't implemented all the techniques I have learned so far. Which leads me to the point which I regard as the very hardest to make money. This point is the fact that my partner and friends see me as 'playing' with the computer. I have explained that it is an investment in the future but I still get hit with how much time I spend (or waste) on the computer. I guess if I gave it even more time I would be more advanced than I am at present. Maybe when I start bringing in $2000/week plus I won't hear so many complaints.
Is this a common problem?

This is a general response to some of the other posts. My website currently gets about 4200 unique visitors a month. It has taken me almost 4 years to get to this level and a lot of work producing content. There are no free lunches in the internet marketing world. No matter what the gurus tell you. If someone does hit a homerun first thing, it is the exception and not the rule.
Make a committment to working at least 10 hours a week on your business following a marketing plan. Joel Comm has done very well but he worked hard to get there.
You will need some money to get started. If need be, get a job carrying groceries, or at McDonalds or Taco Bell to earn some money. Some money is better than no money. A second job can help supply funds to start or expand your business. You don't need to keep it forever.
Sign up to ONE or TWO quality IM newsletters. Joel's is one to start with. I wonder how many have even read the links at the top of this page for information.
DO take time to sign up to the Friday Traffic Report and download the Authority Black Book on Web 2.0 marketing. READ IT. Jack Humphrey is one of the web's top experts on Web 2.0 marketing.
Don't expect to get rich overnight and please don't look for the magic bullet. There is none.
Free blogs are one way to get started with little money. Google "free blog hosts" in quotes and investigate the top 3 to 5 entries. I don't recommend blogspot.com as that is owned by Google and they can shut off access to your blog off if they think you are a spammer by too much product promotion.
Wordpress.com is a good one to host a free blog. Read the TOS on the top 3 free blog hosts. If you don't know what a blog is. Google "what is a blog" in quotes. A free blog that will let you promote products is a good place to start. www.squidoo.com is one such place.
Get a product of your own as quickly as possible. With your own product you have a chance to JV with someone that has a large email list.
I suggest you stay away from internet marketing to start with. This field is very competitive.
Every one has a PDF ebook in them. Think about Google free PDF compilers and investigate some of them. There are some good free ones out there to get you started.
Good luck to all and after you each become internet millionaires, I hope to see your ebooks on clickbank.com

A lot of Gurus say it's easy to make money on the Internet & they are making Tons of it & we spend. - I am still asking HOW ?
Don't mind spending a year or 2 to be succcessful & be rich from Internet Biz. Spend a lot of money on all the Promises/Programs like many others but I always see most going no way. I am more than 1 year into the search for Internet Success.
Still can't get my own website up or get a niche eventhough there are Tons of guides & ebooks on this except promoting Affiliates Programs but no results. -Where to Advertise for Maximum effectiveness ?
Only can make from some Free To Join Programs where self-effort bring in the money. Of course, that's not we want. We want to make Real Auto-Pilot Residual Income. HOW ?

What is the most effective way to generate business/income when you are just starting out and don't have gadgets such as an autoresponder etc (sorry if this has already been asked but I simply don't have time at present to read through 205 responses!). I'm just starting out (launch the website within a week - yeeha) and am so keen to be successful, but wonder if my hopes are too high when I have had to do it without all the "mod-cons"(as can't really afford at the moment).

What I am working on now which seems a bit challengingis a sales letter for my website that is currently in progress which I'll use to promote the site listed above. How does one stay focus with what seems like an information overload? For a beginner with no or very little knowledge about it's challenging. It seems as though one needs a lot to get started right. How can one start small and not feel that you one is losing ground?

P.S. Have just read Marshall's e-mail (second to last by my reckoning) and just wanted to say I so appreciate people like Marshall who give a "heads up" to people like myself who are new to this game. Thanks Marshall, for the google ideas and the rest.

Lots of good people give good marketing advice. None that I know of give reviews or comparative evaluations of alternative software programs to build your web site, programs to evaluate & select keywords, companies to use as your web host, etc. What are the pros and cons of the best choices for different sophistication levels of web sites and number of products (ie:selling one product vs selling many products within the single web site).
If you can do this, great! Or can you give the web sites where these reviews
can be obtained?
February 21, 2008 01:30 AM
Thanks, Joel
You have give me a chance to speak up, I have promote your product but I have not sell one of them I want your advice. What I have to do in order I can make more income on internet, I have tried make a blog, advertise on google adwords, join a forum, join yahoo answer and free ads.

1) Do a blog? or put up numerous content Adsense sites? Outside of writing your own content where do you get it as it pertains to a specific KW?
2) This whole business is information overload! Everyone has the answers, the solutions. And for your credit card number I'll give you the answers and solutions!
Joel! any advise on narrowing some of this down and focusing in on something other than buying something else? Some of this is like a gambling addition!
Thanks,

I run a one-woman operation of internet sales in a niche market and have for 6 years. My sales have always been tremendous. Lately, they are falling like a rock, yet the advertising budget (Google adwords) steadily climbs. With sales declining I find I am starting to worry about spending what money I 'do' have coming in on this exorbant google adword campaign. (I usually spend $4k a month and I'm down to $2k and I'm struggling). Yet I know if I quit advertising, I'll have no sales at all. I've tried to follow some of the tips given by Armand in which he states will get the cost per click down to 4-5cents per clk, yet I sure don't see that happening. As I attempt to set up a new campaign of my own I still end up on the page that asks me to set my budget and what I want to pay for each click. If I said 4-5 cents, you'd never find my listing. I wish there was a very, very definitive, simplified Google Advertising guide that 'really' worked. All these 'secrets' that are suppose to be revealed in expensive programs...I wish they would really be revealed.

One of the best ways to make money off the internet is to set up a duplicatable, recurring passive income system. Trouble is, what is that system, how do we find one, and how do we set it up? If I can figure that one out - I'm on my way?

How can you research a good niche when you're not an expert at anything? It's niches that I find the hardest part of beginning this business. The niche I want, you have to be doing it to gain credibility, and I can't presently afford to do it.
And, what do you think of all-in-one companies like SiteBuildIt!?
February 23, 2008 09:14 PM
I should like to note here that not all of us are looking to get rich. I just want to have enough passive income to survive so that I can follow my other pursuits (some of which involve earning money, of course). So rather than thinking of things as 'get-rich', I would rather consider it as 'get-decent-income'.
February 24, 2008 01:59 PM
What do you think about the future of internet business and making money online? What is next?
February 25, 2008 02:26 PM
Thanks for this nice opportunity to 'Speak Up'
Funny you mention 'Speaking', because recently I was asked to 'Speak' for a rather big croud. Reminded me of the time I had an entire football stadion cheering, I really felt like a 'Rock Star' and the croud really went wild!!!!! although it appeared that possibly Mick Jagger comming on stage behind me might have had something to do with it...,
'Anyway, back to the Question',
What I would like to ask is if you know some other great positive Questions about 'Making Money Online' that I could ask myself
besides the Question:
"Why am I earning so much money online?"
Is it because the visitors like the specific 'Blogspots' so much?
Is it because the visitors love the Daily Items on them so much?
Is it because the visitors are excited about the Movie Trailor Previews?
Is it because the visitors can interact in many way's?
Is it because the many streams of income from Adsense Ads, Amazon, the royalties from my Publishing on Demand company, the revenues from all the other Affiliates etc. etc. etc.
What do you think are the best contributing 'money making' elements that
I could add, or improve to make my 'Waterpump' run even wilder?
Thanks in advance,
All the Best,
HP

Hey Joel,
I am thinking about getting into affiliate marketing and my biggest problem right now is what domain name I should get. This is because I may be wanting to promote different products (like web hosting along with maybe affiliate ebooks) which come under different niches. I also wanted to know, when people choose a niche, how do they find so called 'good' affiliate programs (from clickbank) in that niche?
Thanks,
