We got a late start this morning, but isn't that what vacationing is all about?
Jenna is so excited about going horseback riding, so we walked to the stable and made a reservation for tomorrow at 10:30 am. She will be riding a black and white horse named Questa. Every time we passed the stable today, she pointed out Questa to all of us.
Took a photo of Jenna out front of the lodge.

For lunch, we packed a picnic and drove to the top of Red River Pass. A local told us it was accessible with our minivan and the view was beautiful. Boy, was she right!

As you would expect from this elevation, the drive up was a bit harrowing. None of us are much for heights, but since I drove to the top of Pike's Peak in Colorado a couple years ago, I figured I could tackle this easily enough. We thoroughly enjoyed the lunch, the scenery, and some nice folks that passed us on their way down the mountain. Thunderheads were beginning to build in the sky, so we decided to go down a little sooner than I would have preferred.
Jenna had been asking if we could drive the Go Karts since she spotted them a couple days ago. Mary and Zach sat this one out, so the two of us took about 20 laps around the track.

Afterwards, we went to the PlayHouse, a cheesy fun spot where the kids could play some video games, roller skate, etc.. Jenna opted for roller skating and Zach wanted to play video games. It was actually a walk down memory lane for me as they had many coin-operated video games that I played 20 years ago while still in high school and college. (I think I played more hours of video games in college than I did in class!)
Texas Reds had come highly recommended as THE place to eat while in Red River. Up to this time, we were unimpressed with the food here, and it turned out there was a wait at Texas Reds of at least 30 minutes. They had a phone-ahead seating policy, so I called them at 5 pm to set up reservations for 6 pm. No one at the hostess stand answered the phone, so I called another number for them. The lady there told me to call the hostess stand. I explained to her that no one was answering the phone. She assured me that someone would, so I called again. Ring.. ring... ring... ring.. (repeat 30x). I thought to my self... "self... those people don't give a rip about your business". As it happened, I was making the call from a gift shop across the street from another steakhouse, the Timbers. The ladies there agreed that Texas Reds was overpriced and they didn't know much about how to handle customers. They recommended the Timbers instead. Well, we took their advice and it was the first GOOD meal we have had in Red River! So, I say this to Texas Reds. Pfffft!
Once again, it rained this afternoon and early evening. But it is never raining in all directions! The panarama is so vast that the sun is shining on one mountainside while it is raining on another. It's very cool to observe. Since there are so many sunshowers, we have been watching for a rainbow to appear. We finally got one tonight and it was beautiful. Just another reminder from the Creator, that He is there, and that He cares.

Once back in the room, we played Hearts for the the third night in a row. Zachary cleaned up the floor with us. Then, we watched a couple episodes of Spongebob Squarepants before sending the kids off to bed. Tomorrow we plan on riding the chairlift to the top of the mountain and enjoying lunch at 10,000 feet.

It's neat that you've come to visit my home town. I hope you tried the fudge at the Candy Crate and got to see the Melodrama on Friday Night at the Red River Inn (I'm one of the stars).
I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with Texas Reds - they're service is much better when it's not busy. They have a hard time keeping up with the busy times. I highly reccomend Sundance Restaurant - they take reservations and are one of my favorite restaurants.
