I recently attended a mastermind event featuring some of the greatest thought leaders of our generation. Attendees included Tony Robbins, Alex Mandossian, Les Brown, Tony Hsieh, Ivan Misner, Chet Holmes, Bill Bartmann, Stephen Pierce and many others.
It was a fantastic three days of learning, networking, and building relationships.
On Saturday evening we were told that we had a surprise speaker. It turns out that Janet Atwood has a friend that knows Paula Abdul. I'm not sure if Paula was already in Vegas or if she flew in for this, but she agreed to come and speak to our group.
Come to find out that this was the FIRST time she had ever told her life story publicly. She was nervous, but she did great!
I had no idea this woman had been through so much!
I placed the video online, but have removed it per request of Paula's managers.

Nice speech, didn't hear a word!

Very good post, Joel. Ms. Abdul has had my respect for a long time. This seemed to be an impromptu talk, so I believe what was said was from the heart.
I admit to not knowing about her plane crash, 1992 according to Google. That had to be tough. I can see her point about being counted out, do you ever hear about Gloria Estefan after her near fatal car crash? She still performs but no one knows of her.
Ms. Abdul has guts and determination and she fought back to get back on the stage that performers need to be on.
We can all learn from that.

I was there in attendance with Joel at this mastermind session - and she was great! Yes, quite nervous, but nonetheless - a great story and a heartfelt message.
I don't follow much on her current career, but remember the days of her early success. She worked her TAIL off. Everyone else should take note - success doesn't happen overnight, but it will happen if you stick to it.
Way to go Paula!

Hey Joel, sorry to hear you had to take down the video. It was a great talk, I was very honored to be among the invited few who got to hear it live and be part of the masterminding that went on that weekend.

I had no idea that she did any speaking at all.
Maybe this is a great move for her, and to think
you were there for her first time!
