Oprah hands over the keys

I've never been a huge Oprah Winfrey fan. I've probably watched three entire shows my whole life. But I do appreciate the positive spin she has taken her show these past years. Instead of doing the Jerry Springer "dregs of society" type shows, she has sought to elevate her show by featuring encouraging and inspiring stories. From time to time, she has been known to provide her entire audience with a year's supply of dogfood, or a personal makeover, etc...

I always wondered what I would do if I had her money. I've got to believe that she is a charitable person. Today, she pulled a stunt that I hope I would do were I in her shoes.

She started her 19th season today. To celebrate, she called eleven people from the audience to the stage and gave them a brand new Pontiac G6 automobile. Then she handed out boxes to the rest of the audience and told them that one box contained a twelfth key for a new car. Imagine the surprise of the audience when EVERY box had a set of car keys! She gave away 276 car today. The audience freaked out. She led them all out to the parking lot of Harpo Studios where they were greeted by their new cars decorated with red bows.

As it turns out, the audience was comprised of people who needed a new car. Oprah had invited submissions from people to tell her of friends or family members who were really in need.

Now that is a cool way to spend extra cash. Kudos Oprah.
