MSN AdCenter Rejects My Ads

Posted on April 1, 2006 09:03 PM by Joel Comm

I got invited to the beta test of the MSN AdCenter a month or so ago. Not many people have had the opportunity to advertise via MSN, so I thought I would give it a a try.

I finally got around to running a test campaign to promote my AdSense ebook using their contextual ad system.

MSN rejected my ads!

The ad stated...

Google AdSense Secrets
Learn the Secrets of an AdSense Pro Earning Over $500/day
http://www.adsense-secrets.com

Their reason for rejecting the ad?

Undesirable content per editorial guidelines,Website contains forbidden content

Isn't this interesting?

MSN turned away my money because I had Google in the ad.

What do you think of this? Smart move on Microsoft's behalf? Dumb? I'm eager to hear your opinion.

I used AdCenter for all of three days before cancelling my account. I wasn't happy with the bid prices I was getting or the layout of the admin area. It just wasn't to my liking all the way around.

About MSN not wanting Google advertised in their programs, I think it doesn't make any sense. I can search MSN.com for
"AdSense Secrets" and get a bunch of "free" results! Why doesn't MSN want to capitalize on what is already being searched for?

    Hi Joel,

Is this an april fool joke?...MSN rejected your ads entitled "Google Adsense Secrets"!
I think MSN is smarter and less dumb for reasons basically fall under 2 folds:
    1. MSN AdCenter is still under beta and for all purpose and intent, they may not be ready to accept ads run contrary to and under the disguise of their so call editorial guidelines.
    2. The word "Google" and maybe "Adsense" or "Adwords" for that matter used in the ads may perceive to be clouding in the mind of your ads reader at large detrimental to and at the expense of MSN AdCenter Not necessarily in dollar sense But in branding and prominency among others.

Just my thought and opinion on this April Fool Day...Joel!

    Hey Joel,

I think the guys at MSN are pretty stupid... Google is dominating the market place not just as a search engine but they keep coming up with new ideas, products and services to help their users.

If MSN isn't going to allow content or ads just because it has Google(Yahoo or any other brand or competitor name in it) it's no wonder they are falling behind in the search market.
