More about Tsunami

The body count continues to climb in what is undoubtedly the greatest tragedy of human loss in my lifetime. As of this writing, it is estimated that upwards of 44000 people have been killed by the massive earthquake and tidal waves in Indonesia. The concept of waves moving at nearly 500 mph is staggering.

This graphic demonstrates how this takes place.

The whole thing seems so distant, yet is brought home by the heartbreaking photos that are all over the web.

There is an incredible amount of need in the area, and many are frightened that the number of decaying humans and animals could lead to an outbreak of disease. This site has info on how you can provide aid, with many phone numbers and email contacts.

Unless you were born after 1970, the monsoonal rains in Bangladesh that year was the greatest loss of life in your lifetime (if you are under 60 and were not alive in WWII). They killed 500,000 people. George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh may help you remember it.
