Lemony Snicket Movie

Posted on December 18, 2004 12:55 AM by Joel Comm

It's late and I don't want to drone on at length about the film I saw yesterday, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring Jim Carrey as Count Olaf. I have read the first three books and I believe the movie was very faithful to the tone and character of the Daniel Handler stories. I was afraid that Jim Carrey would look like Jim Carrey doing Count Olaf, but I was actually pretty pleased with the performance. It did take the film a little while to get going, but the scenes at Aunt Josephines house overlooking Lake Lachrymose were fantastic. The children were wonderfully cast and the sets were superb. I give this film a 7 out of 10.
