Leaving Australia

Posted on June 13, 2008 03:18 AM by Joel Comm

At 10:30 am on June 12th, Mary and I checked out of the Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney and made our way to the airport.

Thirty-one hours later, we're finally home. We had a 3-hour layover in Fiji and a 7-hour layover in Los Angeles. So close, but yet so far!

Anyhow, I didn't have problems with jet lag in Sydney, but everyone tells me it really hits when you get home.

I can see that they are right.

In the past two days, I've had just a few hours of sleep. I figured I would be absolutely exhausted when we got home and that my own bed would put me out like a light.

Well, it's almost 4 am here and I am writing a blog entry. I guess that says it all, huh?

On the way out of Sydney, I was able to shoot some video from the sky. Here's a new clip that shows the downtown and the outlying area from somewhere around 20,000 feet.

The trip to Australia was fantastic and I know I will be visiting Sydney again one day.

Right now, I need to try to catch up on some sleep...

    Hi Joel,
Sorry you had a pretty average time in Sydney. If you and your wife ever make it back contact some of us locals and we'll show you the real Sydney.
    Looking forward to your blog.
    Cheers
    Cath

    HI Joel,
After coming so far to Sydney it is a pity that you didn't come to New Zealand. Your experience would be further enriched. May be next time.

    Hi Joel,
My user name is sydneywins2000 plus. And my e-mail address is sydneywins2000@yahoo.com.au
I was captivated by you and your fabulous wife Mary last Sunday at, where else - but the BEAUTIFULLEST city in the world: Sydney.
And, Sydney herself, and the Sydney tourism industry cannot thank you enough for your FREE *p.s.* promotion.
There is one CRITICAL spot that you missed while visiting the Botanical Gardens: It is the Lady Macquarie's Chair - the physical chair itself, NOT just the prime strip of land of the same name.
You get there by getting down a few steps to the right of the ookout for the Opera House: You may then sit on thestone-carved chair, and visualize your self being Lady Macquarie contemplating and admiring the changing coloUrs *U* of the beautiful harboUr *U*.
*U* It is colour with a "U" and Harbour with a "U": The Americans have spelt it wrongly for centuries.
I'll post a You-Tube video sometime to show you the most beautiful SPOT on the harbour foreshore.

    Hi Joel:
Somehow I stumbled upon your blog and what a pleasant surprise. You may or may not remember me but Mary and I use to work together years ago in Dallas at Endevco. And you, Mary and I used to hang out from time to time. I've often wondered what happened to you'll. I'm totally impressed with your's and Mary's success. I found Mary's website and saw her books. Congrats to both of you. Tell her I said hi!! You can see my blog at www.ellens-world.com.
