Here's something you're not going to hear too often these days.
I'm glad I don't have a job.
I'm happy that I don't have to commute to someone else's office, make nice to the boss, wonder what I have to do to move up in life... and hope and pray that I still have my job next month.
That's the situation for many people these days, and I'm so happy that I've discovered that it doesn't have to be this way.
If there's one thing that Internet Marketing has done, it's shown that the ability to earn income is now available to anyone who wants to make use of it.
You don't need piles of start-up cash to begin generating money with a website. You just need to create content, bring in readers and optimize the pages. At the beginning you might make just a few bucks a day but as you track the stats, discover what works, implement new strategies and build your readership, those handfuls of dollars grow into armfuls. Then bucketfuls.
It doesn't happen overnight and it doesn't happen without effort. But it can happen, and when it does, it happens because you decided to make it happen.
You sat at your keyboard and built your website. You wrote the content, implemented the ads and placed links around the Web to bring in traffic. You Tweeted and Facebooked, optimized for search engines and contributed to forums.
And you received the checks.
That's all it takes. A decision to turn your computer into a cash machine and to make the effort that goes into building and maintaining your website.
It's an amazing thing and hugely liberating. You no longer need a good resume and an amazing interview technique to ensure that you have a monthly income. You no longer have to worry about how the company's doing and when it will be your turn for the chop. You no longer have to wonder what you're going to be doing this time next month or next year, and how you're going to get there.
Internet marketers talk a lot about how the Web can make people money, but there are lots of ways to earn money. The Internet can deliver something much more powerful than that. It can deliver independence and freedom to anyone who wants them. You just have to choose to take them.

Joel, I agree. Self-employment is actually far more secure than working for someone else. And it's a helluva lot more fun too!

Great post, Mr. J!
I'm amazed at how men people are still amazed at the fact that you can actually
make $$ on the "internet."
Thanks for sharing.
By the way, really enjoyed the ride the other day in Denver via your iPhone and Ustream.tv

Its always a delight to read your articles. At these times of "Economic Meltdown", the jobs are gradually dissappearing and one can only find a way out by coming to terms with what is happening in the internet marketing platfom. Such a person will need a mentor like Mr Joel Comm, if he/she really wants to make a headway. With even the best of products, people still find it difficult achieving their hearts desires. Therefore you are very correct.

That's all there is to it Joel, people like to complicate things and that's when they get tripped up and later fail at their endeavor. Keep it simple guys, really really simple, so simple that an 8 year old can do it. If you do that, you WILL succeed online. Be consistent in your activity, work your business DAILY and you'll see results.
I've been job free for 12 years and built my business on a shoestring budget. To this day, the 3 most valuable tools I use to run my business cost me
Get out of your dead end job and start designing YOUR life. Instead of slaving for someone else, create something of value that will pay you time and time again for that one time effort. Robert Kiyosaki once said something that I feel fits well here, he said, "I cannot understand why someone would work so hard for something they will never own." Think about that for a moment, what are you working towards? Are you in control? Do you call the shots? Do you live life as you want, by your schedule? And, most importantly, will you own it?

Joel that post was where it's at! I think you forgot to add a huge sense of peace and happiness... LOL this is great information and inspiration for guys like me just starting out or on the come up in the blogging community. I not only blog because I have decided to make a career change but there is a love for it also. People I think look at guys like you and only see dollar signs. I look at guys like you and see a man who is happy at what he is doing and that is my biggest inspiration to blogging as a career. If anyone has not read any of your books yet I suggest they get off their butts and get that AdSense Code! That book has made me a fan and also changed my thinking and mindset, very educational stuff.
Right now I am working a typical 9 to 5 but thanks to your teachings I am looking at the bigger picture of being a successful entrepreneur and reaching unbelievable goals. Thanks for this post it sure did hit home and now I am pushing the power button on getting task done today. You the man!

Great perspective. There are many in the throes of being laid off right now and my experience has been that, for many, it can be a life changing event in a good way. Often this is apparent at the time, but appears so in retrospect. Hopefully people will be enthused to get the freedom and control of their lives you describe.
Hopefully people will have the commitment to make this happen, the rewards are certainly worth the effort.

This is very motivational.
I am proud to be trying to make it in internet marketing.
If I fail, it's your fault (kidding).

You just gave me another quote to put on my daily review list of motivators, Joel. As long as I continue to prime the pump, the streams of income will come, first as a trickle, then as a torrent, as I continue to learn and improve.

You just made online marketing sound so easy. But, how many out there are really set to put themselves in this run for the pot of gold ? They have nobody to fall back on.
Great risk, great rewards. Good luck to all =]

Mr. Joel Comm
Your posts are like Zen!
I said on your "Get Lucky, Get an Office" post that I put your RSS feeds on my Twitter feed and in one day I got around 2000 followers. WOW! Now I'm not saying that everybody can do this, or that your feed was the one thing that got me 2000 followers in one day; I have now way to track where follows come from, that sounds like an application I need. But the power of your posts and the power of Twitter are very convincing. I am jumping in with both feet into this internet marketing pool.
I am a Realtor and have been trained to never think small, so my DREAMS! are huge and I WILL MAKE THEM COME TRUE!
MY DREAMS! I WILL MAKE THEM COME TRUE! ...That's my new slogan.
Thanks bud, have a great weekend.
