I Have Seen the Light, and It is Red

A Review of the IBIZ Virtual Keyboard

Up until now, portable keyboards for PDAs have been clunky and fragile This review is being written on a device the size of a cigarette lighter with a keyboard that is invisible. I am speaking of the IBIZ Virtual Keyboard, a new device from IBIZ Technologies that combines infrared and laser technology to deliver a keyboard that is both functional and portable.

vkb.jpg

Using a standard laser, the VKB projects a standard QWERTY keyboard on any flat surface. Sure, you could attempt to project the image on your dog, but I doubt he would be still long enough for you to be very productive.

The key to the unit is the infrared, which tracks where your fingers are making contact with the keys via a tracking grid. In fact, the laser image isn't needed for the keyboard to work, which is why the device will function even in situations where the lighting may be brighter.

I tested this unit it on my IPAQ 3855 running Pocket PC 2002. I charged the unit for the recommended two hours with the included charger. The Pocket PC driver installed flawlessly. After connecting the VKB to my IPAQ with the included cable (cables are included for all standard connectors, including palm, pocket pc and a serial port in case you want to use the VKB on your home PC or laptop), I found the VKB control panel icon on my device and clicked the “Enable” box. My IPAQ instantly recognized the device and away I went.

I launched Pocket Word and began typing, the VKB emitting an optional "click" with every recorded keystroke. I found the click useful, but more seasoned users may elect to turn it off. Following the user's manual, I adjusted the sensitivity settings in the control panel to "6". Any less and the VKB registered multiple keystrokes Any more and some strokes were ignored. The control panel also displays battery level (the VKB runs 3-4 hours on its own lithium ion battery), laser light intensity, auto-repeat and shortcut features.

Unlike a traditional keyboard, the VKB encourages "hunt and peck" typing. The unit is most effective if you only use your index fingers to do the typing. Being a self-taught graduate of the H&P School of Typing, this was just fine with me.

The keyboard display on my faux oak wood desk was very sharp, with all keys bright enough to easily see. I tested all keys to make sure they responded properly before starting. It took me a few attempts to figure out the best place to put my fingers on the keyboard in order to register a single click. For example, the period key is shared by the greater than symbol. Touching the period did very little, but touching the “>” symbol worked every time. Even as write this article, I am becoming more accustomed to the way the VKB responds. My speed is increasing and my errors are decreasing.

The VKB is truly portable and easily fits in your pocket. The keyboard includes extra keys such as a function key and directional arrows, making it simpler to navigate your page.

Simply put, this is one very cool gadget! It may not be the ideal tool for everyone, but with a manufacturer's suggested retail of $99.99, it is a low-cost gizmo with a huge "wow!" factor and alot of bang for your buck.

As of this writing, IBIZ is awaiting laser certification from the FDA and/or FCC. According to their marketing spokesperson, it is typical for certifications to take 60-90 days for completion. Since IBIZ filed in March, they are hopeful that certification will arrive at any time, allowing them to ship the pre-orders that are currently sitting in their warehouse. The technology in the VKB has already been approved for home, business and educational institution use, so I was assured that certification was nothing more than a formality.

The Virtual Keyboard is available for pre-order at the IBIZ Online Store, Mobile Planet and other online retailers.

Can you post a picture of the VKB??

  2. ducksticks Says:

Who wrote that review?, where did it come from, someone is attempting to manipulate a stock price and you may unwittingly be involved, who are you?, and have you actually handled a IBZT's VKB or is that a review of a VKB Inc. prototype keyboard?

VKB Inc. has produced a few prototype keyboards, there is still a question whether or not VKB has succesfully been able to manufacture one to sell at $99, by reviewing a prototype and posting a review about an IBIZ VKB may be very mis-leading and may in fact have pulled you into fraudulent activity, please make clear who wrote that review, when all parts of it were written?, and what exactly it was reviewing, thank you.

  3. Joel Comm Says:

I am the author of this site. I received the item from IBIZ per their PR firm. I have no way of distinguishing whether or not they would label this item a "prototype" or not. It was a VKB and it was received yesterday. They provided me with the unit, the charger, the adapters, a driver disk and quick install instructions. I have reviewed hundreds of software and hardware components over the years. This is the first time anyone has suggested that I may be involved in fraudulent activity! Your hostile tone and inquisitioning is uncalled for and I believe you owe me an apology.

  4. Joel Comm Says:

As for a picture, it looks remarkably like the unit in the photo above.

And incidently, I like what I have seen enough to buy stock in the company. That rarely happens for me.

  5. Mario Neves Says:

    Joel.
    Thank you for your article.
As developers of this technology, we are pleased to know that you have had a good experience.
You have described accuratly the user interface and the "activation process".
We receive correspondence from users worldwide, and their experience is similar to yours.

  6. ducksticks Says:

Joel, perhaps an apology is in order, but first a couple more questions, how did you get hold of a VKB? meaning was one mailed to you? (by whom?) IBZT in Phoenix or VKB?, is it now yours to keep or have you been required to send it somewhere? (where?)who sent you the VKB, please fill in the details as much as you can, I have the email apology in mind, thank you

  7. Joel Comm Says:

I didn't pay attention to the return address label on the box and it is gone. The PR firm had the unit sent to me. The instructions said "IBIZ Virtual Keyboard"

  8. ducksticks Says:

you may have been asked to review a VKB that was not produced by IBZT, you may have reviewed a product made by superior technology than what is going into the IBZT version of a VKB, does the product (vkb) say IBZT on it?, were you allowed to keep the VKB? Like I said, you may be unwittingly involved in a penny stock scam! Have you talked to the owners of the tecnology about this?, Did you know that while IBZT claims to have exclusive USA distribution rights, a check with VKB Inc. (the owners of the VKB technology) will show that is not the truth!

Please respond to the questions you can, thank you!

  9. ducksticks Says:

    any comments?, follow-up review?

    http://www.knobias.com/individual/public/news.htm?eid=3.1.3fef431e707232962e7ee3efaf32207d2a84c3fd84462631a6a354fc8a572fb1

  10. Joel Comm Says:

No follow up review, but I sure do have some questions about the company, as well you!

I've reviewed many products in my life and never had one claimed to belong to the company and it turned out not to be so!

Did you KNOW this was coming? What did you know and when did you know it? Are you with Enterprise Capital AG? You obviously have inside information, none of which I am privileged too. Perhaps now would be a good time to explain why you suspected that something was awry with the company or that the unit they shipped me wasn't actually an IBIZ product?

This smells very bad for the company if they are indeed involved in some kind of fraud. This is the kind of stuff class-actions suits against the company are made of.

Did you also write the editors at NY Times, MSNBC, Tech Tv and the numerous other outlets that gave coverage to the VKB? Comments?

Sounds to me like you have known something all along. Come clean please.

  11. ducksticks Says:

how much were you paid to review that VKB, were you paid in stock, wouldn't that be something?

  12. ducksticks Says:

Do you always just review products without knowing who sent them to you or why? Do you still have that VKB? Were you allowed to keep it?

What names are on that VKB?

  13. Joel Comm Says:

Yes, it would be something. Unfortunately, I don't get paid to write reviews. I accept product and thats the only payment I ever get. It's not fair, but at least I get to keep the product.

Now you owe me TWO apologies.

  14. Joel Comm Says:

I don't like your tone at all. I will not be interrogated on my own blog. If you wish to apologize for your "accusations" that I may have done something inappropriate, you may continue to post on my blog. Otherwise, you are free to go elsewhere.

Be polite and I will be more than happy to answer your questions.

  15. ducksticks Says:

I surrender the two well deserved apologies on the condition that you answer one of my questions that I have already asked "What names are on that VKB?" That of course extends to all marking

I apologize for behavior that imply's you are not a straight shooter and a truthful honest person, and I am also sorry that you sometime have to come in contact with what may be no more than scam artists dwelling in the otc.bb!

This apology affectiveness go into effect immediately after you answer the above question with honest and in the spirit that it was asked, thank you, ducksticks

  16. Joel Comm Says:

Thank you Mr. Sticks, or should I just call you "Duck"?

As indicated before, the item look identical to the one in the photo. There are no distinguishing markings anywhere on the unit.

    Apologies accepted.

Now then. Who are YOU? And why do you suspect that the company is engaged in some sort of fraudulent activity? Why have you been evasive to my counter-questioning? Thanks

  17. ducksticks Says:

A follower of the stock ibzt, I have long suspected foul play at work in that penny stock, CEO was busted in 1991 by the SEC for falsifying PR's, he settled without being formally charged so he can claim anything he wants, but we know that he lied, that is what he did.

What with the confusing spin-off the lying PR's about shipping, (see Jan 8 PR to see where CEO Schilling said the VKB was now shipping), and other scammy stuff, things have long stank in ibzt and a lot of people lost a lot of money based on Kens PR's.

The latest PR is just some BS phoney excuse to make things appear that Ken Schilling and ibzt are not culpable, yet for some, deep digging DD revealed that IBZT's claim of exclusive rights to USA distribution were lies and that ibzt never even had a signed agreement with the vkb manufacturer of the product, all info hid from the common shareholders with a few of what appears to be paid shills to run interference for Schilling and post contrary to the above info keeping the sheep shareholders in a coma while Ken Schilling dumped over 2 billions shares in less than 6 months.

So who am I?, a one time shareholder that would like to have the truth brought into the light, I realize that you may just be a tech tester/analyst, but it sure would be nice to put real cards on the ibzt stock table for a change!

  19. mamumps Says:

joel, nice comments on vkb. I am not sure who this guy duckstick is but the Virtual Keyboard is a confusing issue. He also may have an agenda even though he says he is watching out for the shareholders. Some have rights in certain countries and I believe there is a patent war going on behind the scenes. It may get ugly but most believe IBIZ will come out with US rights, Hutchinson has UK rights, the list goes on. Keep up the good work

    Regards!

  20. the exposer Says:

You'd think that someone with a tech edge would know, even IF there were some confusion from a marketing dept., that the FDA wouldn't have anything to do with any kind of approval for a class b computing device.

Factually, the VKB has been around for about 3+ years now, and it's been used in a few different OTC/pinksheet scams. it should also be noted that Siemans was one of the first to TRY this gadget out, and then summarily punted it.

No apologies coming so don't ask for 'em. You didn't do your homework...

  21. mamumps Says:

exposer, are you ducksticks. Your comment on the FDA is silly along with the marketabililty. What is your agenda. Again Joel, great review, as far as the owner and marketability of the product it is getting clearer every day.

  22. dead.fish Says:

It's simple, Joel, you were scammed. The company has claimed since last July that the device was in mass production, and has made various claims regarding rights. In fact IBZT has no rights to manufacture the VKB, and VKB, Inc. has not granted exclusive territorial rights to anybody.

Furthermore, the cost of the basic chipset and assembly exceeds the suggested US retail price. This company is nothing buy a scam selling stock based on false claims about a niche gadget.

As far as patents, you might want to contact Virtual Devices, Inc. in Pennsylvania.

  23. ducksticks Says:

mamumps, silly? Here is from an IBZT true long, you have been scammed, that is apparent, this from VKB Inc.

I wrote VKB yesterday and received this e-mail response this morning.

    My QUESTIONS:

These questions are regarding the VKB.

    1. Who has the rights to sell VKB in the USA?
    2. When and how will VKB get FCC certifications?
    3. Can HHR sell VKBs in the US?
    4. Can HHR currently sell VKBs in the UK - without certification?
    5. If IBiz were to change manufacturers for the VKB, will they lose their exclusive rights to distribute in the US and Asia?

    Their RESPONSE:

    Thanks for your mail.

VKB is a technology company. We have licensed our technologies/designs/IP to companies around the world for multiple uses and applications.

VKB has no direct business relationship with iBiz, and iBiz DOES NOT hold any rights from VKB. iBiz is a client of one of our licensees ONLY.

Hutchison Harbour Ring (HHR), a $60 billion company, is our manufacturer for the virtual laser keyboard, HHR has worldwide rights, and HHR teams are currently promoting the accessories line to; retailers, wholesalers, system integrators, and large corporations worldwide, including in the USA.

We are expecting major retailers in the USA to begin promotion within a few weeks.

The virtual laser keyboard uses a "class 1" red laser, safe for human use, and does not require any certifications. The device itself requires a conformity relating to battery power.

I am hopeful to have answered your questions. Should you need further information about VKB Inc. please introduce yourself. If you require information about iBiz or HHR, feel free to contact these companies directly.

mamumps, you apparently are just another silly IBZT shareholder/bagholder, stick to facts, not what you would like to imagine is happening!

  24. mamumps Says:

There is nothing new in that post duck that I did not already know. We shall see. Joel, great review again. Time will tell on all these stock bashers on your site and who really produces this product in the U.S.. Sorry for your board to become a stock board. This is my last post.

  25. ducksticks Says:

yeah sure pal, nothing new that you did not know, then you admit that ibzt has no vkb rights with VKB Inc., no manufacturer, and no firm time that any IBZT VKBs will ever ship and that Hutchinson does.

Hutchinson will be selling VKB in America soon, and you will still have your nose jammed up Joels backside trying to make it look like he reviewed an IBZT product, keep pumping your worthless IBZT stock here, IBZT & the VKB are history, so is your IBZT money!

  26. ducksticks Says:

It would appear that the mumbling mamumps has sold his shares of the withering IBZT and bailed!....smart man!

SEC Conducts Informal Inquiry Regarding IBZT
    PR Newswire - June 23, 2004 15:30

PHOENIX, Jun 23, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- iBIZ Technology Corp. (OTC Bulletin Board: IBZT), an innovative manufacturer and distributor of accessories for personal digital assistants (PDAs) and other handheld devices, advised that the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") is conducting an informal inquiry. The SEC has asked IBZT to voluntarily produce documents pursuant to a written request. In addition, the SEC has spoken, and requested to speak, with certain officers of IBZT on an informal basis.

Further, the SEC has indicated that this inquiry should neither be construed as an indication that the Commission or its staff believes any violation of law has occurred, nor should IBZT consider it an adverse reflection upon any person, entity, or security. IBZT intends to cooperate and assist in the SEC's inquiry as well as keep our shareholders informed.

  28. Joel Says:

hehe... I've never gotten to take part in a class-action suit before. This could be interesting. Of course, this is just an informal inquiry, so we'll need to see what comes of it.

  29. Dave Munday Says:

    Joel Comm:

My name is Dave Munday... I have an investors website for iBIZ
    http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/IBIZLongInvestors/
... a company that you have done a review for of their Virtual Keyboard. I read your review about a week ago and it was very well done in my opinion.
I also read the remarks made by a bunch of bashers whose main purpose is to slam certain companies... and in doing so try to drive the share price of these companies into the ground. It is my belief that these bashers are a very well organized bunch of people who are employed by even bigger organizations who short shares of small companies in foreign stock markets (such as the Berlin Exchange which has been trading hundreds of American company's stocks without any authorization from those companies or without these companies even knowing that they are being traded in these exchanges) http://www.investors.com/breakingnews.asp?journalid=21811303&brk=1

These bashers are mentioned in this article about illegal shorting of stocks. Many of these bashers are posters at Raging Bull and if you want to see the lowest forms of life... go there and you will understand why I am taking the time to write this message to you. (I am a slow typer also.)

I saw your referrence to a class action suit. That is more of the bashers strategy to degrade iBIZ and all long investors.
Have you seen the lawsuit filed by iBIZ against their manufacturer of this Virtual Keyboard? It is my belief that even the company that was supposed to manufactur these devices has a hand in the short selling of iBIZ stock and destroying iBIZ's reputation in the process. The SEC is doing an informal investigation into iBIZ which I feel is the last attempt by these bashers to destroy iBIZ.

iBIZ and it's CEO and management are very respectable people and they have been degraded in everyway possible on Raging Bull... The bashers have no morals.... no values what so ever... and I am afraid that you are being pulled into this sewer by them.

iBIZ is and has been a respectable company and Mr. Ken Schilling will do everything that he can to make iBIZ succeed. Please do not allow the bashers to influence your feelings about this company. They will stop at nothing and if you read Raging Bull's iBZT message board, I think you will understand my reasons for contacting you.

Here is a link to the Lawsuit filed just a few days ago by iBIZ against the manufacturer that they had already paid to make these Virtual Keyboards that have never been delivered.

Thank you for your great review of the iBIZ Virtual Keyboard and thanks for your time!

    Dave Munday

  30. Dave Munday Says:

    Joel:

I forgot to mention that at my website for iBIZ Investors I don't allow people without proper email accounts and background to join our group and therefore most bashers are locked out.
This upsets them enormously and you will see me being attacked here by them because I and most of my 798 members continue to support iBIZ as we know what really has been happening to the company!

    Thanks again for your time!

    Dave Munday

  31. John Says:

Great review Joel. Don't get sucked in by the desperate bashers. Talk to Ken Schilling directly to get the truth and do not be influenced by this idiot ducksticks. He obviously has an agenda, and I don't believe it is to protect all of us from being scammed as he implies.

As Dave Mundy said in an earlier post, a quick review of Raging Bull will give a clear picture of the tenecity of those idiots like ducksticks.

Why would he care to protect you from this company? Does he know you personally? Why is he so involved, and so worried about your very positive, and well written analysis of this technology. There are intrests way more powerful than you or I driving his agenda.

    Keep up the good work.

  33. ducksticks Says:

Dave Munday is an unsophisticated pennyland dreamer who has less than the average suckers experience when it comes to the stock market.

He does not realize that scams are common in the otc and that he may have positioned himself hopelessly in the middle of one.

He does indeed run a so-called IBZT investors board, however questions and comments other than pumping the stock are not welcome and only those who are commonly known as sheep are welcome into his very dangerous board, a useless board that masquerades as a forum for the truth.

The poster following him on this thread is one of his sheep.

It is likely that the SEC shuts down IBZT and it's CEO Ken Schilling while Munday is rallying his blind green ignorant troops around a lawsuit that is so far into the future that his sheep do not realize that at this point and for years to come, it's meaningless, another thing him and his sheep will not consider is that the lawsuit is just posturing, just a manuever by the CEO Ken Schilling that may just a soon be dropped anytime along the way.

IBZT while claiming numerous time to be shipping the VKB have not ever produced a single working VKB by there efforts.

The CEO has been responsible for adding over 2 billion new shares into the outstanding share count all while taking salaries and huge bonuses in just a few months.

There is a heap o learnin waitin for Dave Munday and his remaining sheep, he claims a membership over 700 when in truth, all that is left of posters on his board that he uses to spoon-feed exagerated info to is a small handful of extremely naive and ignorant!

The outrages he has propitgated on his board are numerous, he erases old posts and virtually executes anyone who does not fall in line.

Most of that munday outfit (if not all) are desperate, often very gullible types that are commonly known as bagholders, they have lost the majority of their IBZT investment, and naively believe that by holding they will get it back.

They are painfully unaware of what most ofter happens to holders of broken otc stocks, which is just one more discussion not allowed on Munday's board!

Joel, are you still a shareholder?

  34. ducksticks Says:

By reading this thread, it is very clear that the VKB you reviewed was produced by VKB Inc. and not a VKB that IBZT had anything to do with producing.

This is just one more lie that Dave Munday continues to foist on his sheep! (IMO the refusal to let the truth come forward, is a lie in itself)

  35. John Bower Says:

ducksticks is paid by a hedge fund to lie and distort facts about the IBiz Virtual Keyboard. He is using innuendo to suggest that the keyboard you reviewed is not produced by IBiz, but he has no facts to back up what he says. I have read many reviews of this product by those in the media, and not one of them stated that the keyboard was not the IBiz version. I think those who actually reviewed the product know best. ducksticks has never tested the unit, so he has no credibility. BTW, the virtual keyboard that VKB Inc has looks different from the IBIZ version. All you need to do is look at the pictures circulating on the web to tell the difference.

  36. ducksticks Says:

First of all John Bowers, I am not paid by any hedge fund nor anyone else, I own my own business and it has nothing to do with the stock market. Second of all that if you were to actually take the time and consider the facts instead of bending them to suit your portfolio needs?, you may have read and comprehended this thread in it's entirety.

Above Mr Neves (VKB Inc.) clearly thanks Joel for reviewing their product, that is verified when he clarifies the product itself with his next post above.....

Good luck with your continued twisting of the facts, I hope you are a new shareholder that may lose it all when the SEC drops the bomb on Ken Schilling and not a bagholder from above .05 like most of the desperate posters in your ilk.

That way you get the learning experience of what it's like to lose it all 95%+, not just the last 15%.

PS the fact that their exist more than one VKB design does not in any imply that ibzt has ever produced a working VKB, in fact all existing facts clearly state that ibzt to date has never been part of, or has anything to do with the production of a working VKB

PSS Instead of more innuendo and speculation John, why don't you or any of you other wannabee profiteers just prove anything I say wrong?
Don't you know how to ask questions of Mr Neves above or even the ibzt CEO Ken Schilling?
You pipe dreaming want get rich quick penny-playing shareholders would have a little more credibility if you tried bringing some proof to the table instead of more empty statements.

ducksticks, you're Wrong, I sold my IBZT shares last January at .07 Twenty three million shares,
my average share cost was .015, I cleared over
a million $$$ profit, the most I ever made on
    any single stock.
Sence July of 2004 I have bought back my IBZT
shares, and continue to increase my position,
These strange turn of events will enable me to
cash in again, I can't believe my luck,at being able to ride this Great Stock Twice,
What all of you people are missing, is the fact that IBZT has much more going for it than just the VKB,there's the BLUE DOCK,PDA Internet Access
Appliance, and several other new technology
products in the pipe line, that IBIZ has Patents on, and will be licensing others use of their intellectual property.
There has never been a greater opportunity to Buy IBZT Stock than now at this depressed price , created by missinformation, lies, ignorants, fear, this is the kind of stock play the professionals search and wait for,
the Big Money is always made running against
the herd, but it takes courage, vision, self confidence, factual information,to know that you are right, and not to listen to all the rumors
and stories based on someones hunch, incomplete
    or missinformation.
We all have to make our own decisions, I wish you all the best of luck, But do your do diligents as well.
    Sincerely Insider914
making money in the market is easy, all you do is,
BUY LOW & SELL HIGH, IBZT is very low NOW,so should you be BUYING or SELLING,
Hmmm let me think about that, "smile"

I rode the ride, and I don't know what will become of it. I am a small time investor looking for long term potential. From what everyone says, I would have been a IBZT scammer... however, I just stumbled across a stock that was featured on CNBC and I bought doing a little background check. I could have taken my 10 - 20% and ran... yes I bought at average 0.04... but I didn't know about anything anyone was saying.

Does that make me an idiot? Or do I fall into a batch of people who bought on speculation and continue to hold onto their 95% loss...

For me... I can't even cover the fees to sell this stock now, so I just hold onto it. Personally, I hope all this bashing stops and something good comes from all this to rebound the price. I am not paid by anyone, I am a small town college student with what little I had to play with invested in IBZT. Tell me I am a scammer hoping to make a profit, and I'll show you a small country boy who knows nothing about stocks.

    Moral: Don't sterrotype, please.

    Lost in Farmland

Who care about the stock. I ordered a VK over two years ago from Virtual Devices.net in Allison Park Pennsylvania with Mr. Steve Montellese and Peter Hanowich at the helm. It's a wonder why they only list a PO Box as an address. If you call their number 412-492-8500 as listed below a female voice that sounds more like a home phone is on the answering machine. I call and call and call and a real person never ever answers. I have called for days.

I contacted them several times in which I was promised over and over (for 2 years) form a Mark M. that the device is soon to be on its way.

I kept getting the same old story....none in stock...having supply problems....production problems....blah blah. I finally filed a BBB complaint and the company has several unresolved on the BBB sight. Check this website for their review.

I think the VK is a scam run out of someone's garage and they are enjoying nice vacations on our money. Enjoy your salary Peter and Steve as I contributed with nothing in return. DO NOT order anything from this scam!
