I am a victim of BSOS.
What is BSOS, you might ask?
Bright Shiny Object Syndrome.
Yes, I am easily distracted by whatever amuses me.
A few weeks ago, Dan Nickerson came to me with an idea for a new product. He pointed out that the product would require a domain and began seeking out the domain.
I'm always on the lookout for new domain names.
Being from New England, Dan is a big fan of lobster. I don't get the appeal as lobster is the cockroach of the sea. Bottom feeders, if you will.
But Dan and many others enjoy lobster. I'm alright with it. It's just not for me.
Anyhow, Dan's idea revolved around fresh maine lobster.
So we Googled the term and found that the third result was a site called FreshMaineLobster.com.
As it turned out, it was a parked page with a "for sale" sign on it.
So we bought it.
And now we've put up a new blog on the site and you can read some of the original articles we have posted, including:
Needless to say, it is also a place you can order Live Maine lobster if you are so inclined.
Would you like to win a $100 LobsterGram gift certificate?

Lobster tail is delicious, but I don't know about lobster.com!
By the way, I would love traffic to my website, but although I have Google AdSense ads on it I can't get MY code on the ads. That means I don't get any benefit.
I'm working on a new website. Maybe I can make it profitable.

Interesting post. The reason I find it so is because as I was perusing around yesterday, I found myself in a hub thing. The entire conversation was about how it was too time consuming to make money with Adsense and you can't make a lot.It was all about the little fish in the sea, scrounging around for money online, and the Adsense fishies were low on the totem pole.
I disagree and I KNOW YOU disagree. But the funny thing is, the examples they gave were about a site on ...of all things....lobsters.

Hi Joel! You hooked me in and got me here with the email you sent out (no pun intended). I understand the whole contest concept - a good idea - but wonder how you would explain to someone with little or no traffic and no real mailing list how to get the traffic for the contest itself?
Curious really what your reply will be :)
Obviously even a contest needs announcing. From a reader standpoint, I was hoping you'd cover generating traffic for interesting ways to generate "more" traffic in this post since that would be so helpful to so many.
From your email:
It's a common story, but it is one that is easily resolved with one word.
"Traffic"
I see many tell the "what to do" but it's not unlike covering up symptoms with over the counter medicine. As the traffic king, a few particulars might be in order?
Just a thought :)

Hi Joel,
I get your periodic emails and what a fantastic and inspirational source they are, thank you!
I was so inspired by the one discussing Fresh Maine Lobster - and in particular the competition running on it - that I decided to apply it to my own business. You can see the results and competition rules at http://www.SummitFinance.co.uk and http://www.SummitForum.co.uk (please forgive me creating backlinks here :)) but in essence we are giving away free closed bridging finance to property investors, with varying numbers of entries into the draw in return for people either posting on our forum, posting on other forums/blogs, or indeed purchasing our products.
We have literally only just launched this competition two days ago, so it remains to be seen how it goes and how well it does manage to spread virally. I will keep you updated via this blog though, because I am sure that others will be interested too.
Thanks again, Joel; that one idea you handed me in your email may well turn out very profitable.
