Dotcom is the new "In Bed"

Posted on March 13, 2008 01:53 AM by Joel Comm

There's a fun game people like to play that goes like this.

Take any sentence or phrase and add the words "in bed" as a suffix to make it funnier.

For example, "John ate a steak... in bed"

or "Jill picked out the latest hat to wear... in bed"

It's especially fun with fortune cookies, where the game has become part of our pop culture.

For example, "You have very good skills and exceptional talents... in bed"

You get the point, yes?

I would submit to you that dotcom is rapidly supplanting "in bed" as the newest and most favorable way to end any sentence.

Let's face it. Domain names are hot.

And while the best one and two-word domains may be taken, there are some pretty amazing phrases just waiting to be snagged by the discerning dotcom suffix creator!

Play along with me...

You run into a friend and decide that you like the shirt they are wearing. You might say, "I like that shirt."

Well, there you are. Slap a dotcom on the end of it and you've got a domain worthy of an up and coming retail site.

ILikeThatShirt.com

Or perhaps you are up to your eyeballs in paperwork and you scream in frustration, "Get these papers off my desk!"

You're beginning to see, yes?

GetThesePapersOffMyDesk.com could just be the next site for disgruntled employees. ;-)

Ok, one more...

You open your front door to take a walk and in runs a big furry Tibetan Mastiff. It's a VERY big dog and you begin to realize how it got away from its owner.

As the 160 pouind dog tears through your house, you decide to make lemons out of lemonade and register...

BigFurryTibetanMastiffInMyHouse.com

Quick. Grab that one before someone else does.

And so, I hereby declare that the dotcom suffix shall supplant "in bed" as the new suffix of choice.

What domain names can you come up with? And please don't say "JustShutUpJoel.com" as I've already grabbed that one. ;-)

    Hi Joel,
Funny post and good ideas sprang from it immediately.

I went over to Shylar.com and registered...
    www.CanIReallyMakeMoneyOnline.com and www.AllInternetMarketersAreLiars.com.

Perhaps I'll use the second one to discuss Seth Godin's book of a similar name, and the former for addressing the objections of eager novices.

I am amazed at how many good domains are still out there in Dotcomland. Can you believe that 8 days ago ProductLaunchFormulas.com was still available?

    Keep up the ah-has...

p.s. I created an in-depth video to show how to register domains and set up hosting. It's free at FirstWebsiteTutorial.com.
