Finding a church to worship at while out of town is always a challenge. You just never know what you are going to get. As it turned out, I opened the yellow pages, placed a call to a church, asked a couple questions and decided that I had found a place.
Redeemer Bible Church is a medium-sized church about five miles from the falls, just off the highway. The church placesa high emphasis on music, worship and celebration. Sounds like our kind of place! The service was on the lengthy side, but I walked away blessed.
We stopped at a local eatery for lunch and then came back to the room to pick up our dirty laundry to take to the laundromat. While at the laundromat, we found a "dollar store". Of course, everything here isn't really a dollar. One U.S. dollar is equivalent to $1.30 in Canadian funds, so you get a bit more bang for your buck here. Anyhow, the kids collect keychains when we go on these trips, but I am always hesitant to spend $5-$6 for them, especially since we are hitting so many destinations on this trip. The dollar store had keychains for, you guessed it, one dollar. So I bought one for each of the kiddos.
Next, we to the top of the Skylon tower, the most recognizable building on the Niagra skyline. It rises over 500 feet above sea level and provides and incredible view of the falls and surrounding area. You can even get a glimpse of Buffalo, NY from the top! I took this photo at the top. It was cold and windy on the observation deck, but worth every Canadian dollar!
Afterwards, we went to the local IMAX theatre for a showing of Niagara: The Ultimate Falls Experience. It provided a bit of mythology, legend and history surrounding the falls, including a recreation of sixty-three year old Annie Taylor's ride over the falls in a barrel. The woman was absolutely crazy! The sad thing is she thought it would bring her fame and fortune. She died penniless.
I dropped Mary and Zach back off at the room and took Jenna for a walk to the falls one more time. It was dark and they were illuminated with a variety of colored spotlights. It really was quite a site to see.
Tomorrow is our last day in Canada. We'll pack up and depart for our next stop, Auburn, NY, via Syracuse. We've enjoyed staying in one place for a few nights, but it is time to hit the road again. Be sure to tune in to Online Tonight with David Lawrence monday evening, during the 11 pm hour (Pacific Standard Time). I'll be on for a half-hour discussing our first week on the road. Wow, can you believe one week has already gone by? Onward!
