Day 7: Niagara Falls

Slowly I turned. Step by step. Inch by inch.

mini-PICT0757.JPGWell, you don't have to remember the old joke to appreciate the awesome Niagara Falls. Once more, I say Awesome. That is the word that best describes this natural wonder. 600,000 gallons of water per second rapidly rushing from the upper Great Lakes into Lake Ontario. Standing at the top of the falls, you almost feel like you could be swept away with the rapids towards the bottom, over 1000 feet below.

mini-PICT0764.JPGThe spray from the falls keeps everything in the perimeter fairly damp. And it does get chilly when you are near the edge. Check out webcam for a live view during daylight hours. After learning a bit about the falls tonight, Jenna decided that she would like to go over the falls in a barrel. She comes up with the nuttiest stuff! Check out the cool rainbow that appeared over the sidewalk after the spray began settling.

We walked at least a mile by the falls and a lovely park. We wanted to find a place to eat, so we walked to Clifton Hill, the tourist hotspot of Niagara. I have never seen such a dense area of restaurants, rides, attractions, shows, arcades, gift shops and putt putt golf courses. There are literally dozens of attractions within one square mile. Being Saturday, it was extremely congested, and Mary and the kids were already very tired from having walked a good deal. So we didn't do any other activities today.

Tomorrow is our "down" day. We will do laundry, go to church in the morning (still need to find somewhere to go) and maybe take in a leisurely activity, such as the IMAX theatre across the street. I can't believe it will already be one week as of Sunday night! Time flies and we are having a great time, as well as learning a lot.

You got me good! :0 Glad you've had such a blast at the falls. I would love to take our kids there sometime on a trek to Ohio. I suppose they would be a bit chilly over Christmas this year though. Guess we'll leave that for a warm-weather visit : ) I'll relax those editorial eyes and just enjoy the view and comments you both share -- I've enjoyed Mary's perspective as well. What a treat to travel w/ya'll this way.

    On His Adventure

Niagra Falls is totally awesome. Just a note, though...the Falls aren't even closet to 1,000 feet high.. In fact, both the American and Horseshoe Falls are under 200 feet. For more details, check this out: http://www.nyfalls.com/niagara/niagara-falls-faq.html#tall
