Day 32: Home, Sweet Home

Posted on November 5, 2003 11:46 PM by Joel Comm

We departed from Conway, Arkansas around 10 am. About five hours later we pulled up to our home. The month flew by. It seems like yesterday I turned to Mary and said, "Are we really going to do this?" Now, it is over. We high-fived and I said, "We did it!"

  • 2 kids
  • 1 dog
  • 31 days
  • 1 packed minivan
  • 1 flat tire
  • 4720 miles
  • 15 tanks of gas
  • 103 hours of driving
  • 16 hotels
  • Dozens of donuts
  • and two extremely tired parents!

    But what a FANTASTIC trip!

Other odds and ends from the road...

To help pass the time, we enjoyed several audiobooks.

The Giver by Lois Lowry - engaging story that pulled all of us in for nearly five hours. The kids seemed more interested in the story than playing Nintendo if that tells you anything.

Myst: The Book of T'iana and Myst: The Book of D'ni, two novels based on the best-selling computer game, Myst.

The Wide Window (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book the Third) by Lemony Snicket - Zach and I both read the first two books and this audiobook provided the opportunity to introduce Mary and Jenna to the terrible troubles of the Baudelaire orphans. I think I enjoy this "children's" series as much as Zach does! Incidently, we picked this up at The Cracker Barrel. As it turns out, you can purchase titles from them and return them at another location for just $3/week rental fee! So we picked this one up in Knoxville, TN and returned it here in Edmond, OK. Sweet!

Well, my sweet wife is beckoning me to come watch 24 with her. Alas, I must go. More thoughts and comments on our trip later.
