Day 29: King's Dominion

Posted on November 2, 2003 06:34 PM by Joel Comm

We checked out of the Red Roof Inn around 9:30 or so and drove a few miles to Paramount's King's Dominion Theme Park in Doswell, Virginia. I purchased tickets online last night to save a few bucks. We checked Socrates into the kennel at the park and went on our way.

Our first stop was the Spongebob Squarepants 3-D attraction. It was a standard theater/simulator ride with 3-D effects. The ride was very jerky, but a whole lot of fun. The Comm family loves Spongebob, and the ride did not disappoint.

So Jenna and I rode a half-dozen rides while Mary and Zach hung out in the park. Jenna is my "coaster buddy" for life. She is so brave and an absolute riot to ride with! She shrieks like crazy and has me busting a gut. Her hair gets so tossled and she giggles on and on after she gets off the ride. The two of us had an absolute blast.

We left the park around 2:30 pm and set course for Lynchburg, via Ashland. We stopped in Ashland for a late lunch at The Cracker Barrel. I looked at my family, all of whom are very tired and ready to go home. Then I looked at the map and approached Mary with an executive decision. We would skip Lynchburg and begin the journey home, cutting one day off the trip. Depending on the amount of driving I can handle, we should make it home by Wednesday or Thursday. I hope we can still make a couple interesting stops on the way, but we'll have to wait and see.
