Cheap Domain Registration

Posted on March 8, 2004 01:24 PM by Joel Comm

I've been on the world wide web since 1994. I launched my first web site in 1995. At that time, it cost $35 to register a domain name for one year. In fact, some registrars STILL charge $35/year. On top of that, there is a surcharge for DNS hosting, which is necessary for running a web site.

Times have changed. You can now register domains far more economically at sites like DomainAnything.com I register all my domains for just $8.99/year. That includes all .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info and .us extensions. AND, the annual domain fee also includes FREE DNS hosting.

The referred site isn't flashy or pretty, but it is very effecient. I now manage hundreds of domains and have had no problems.

I register my domains, like http://www.readability.info/ (yes, a .info domain, as you suggested!) http://www.healthy-bookstore.com/ and http://www.real-life-debt.com/ through Mydomain.com and I've had very good luck with them and they too are $8.50/domain...

    Joel,
I use a service from "1 and 1 Internet" that allows people to register domains for only $5.88 a year and it does include full DNS management and email alias. The service is over at www.1and1.com and as a follow up to what Mr. Taylor said I also use MyDomain to manage several domains and have found purchases with them (at the 8.50 a year rate) are amazing. It has some of the best management tools in the business and they've been doing it longer then the others.

I have several websites, and I've had a domain name, hosting, etc., but it didn't draw any traffic. How do you get lots of people coming to a website without actually begging friends, one by one, "Please, please go to my site!"? Just getting onto the search engines doesn't insure anything because you may be on page 698 on Yahoo. I don't know how to link to other websites or find websites that would want to trade links. I'm a writer and have my own books to sell, but that's not like a service everyone and his brother is looking for. How does someone like me get significant traffic? Any suggestions appreciated.

I tried the website you suggested a number of times and each time I received a message in which Netscape said it didn't recognize the certificate of "shareddiscount.com" and cautioned me about accessing same. This is the site that kept coming up on the URL when I typed in "DomainAnything.com. Explain please.

This site is actually an affiliate of enom, one of the leading registrars on the web. The certificate is safe to accept. I'm not sure why they do it like this, but it works.

I tend to go for GoDaddy I think they being the largest makes them pretty reliable.
