I keep saying that anyone can make money out of an AdSense site.
I still think that's true.
Anyone can find something to write about that will interest other people and bring them in to click on ads.
Everyone has a job, a favorite activity, a hobby, a pastime or some other interest that they can write a few hundred words about several times each week.
And yet, so many people choose to write about their families.
There's nothing wrong with that. Of course, your family is more important to you than anything else. That's always the way it should be. But if you only write about your family, there's always the danger that you'll only be writing for your family.
And that's going to give you a pretty limited audience -- and a very limited income.
There are two ways to turn a blog about your family into a blog for everyone.
The first is to be a sparkling writer. If you're witty, funny and can turn any incident into an event, then people will come whatever you write about.
But if you can't turn your blog into a Seinfeld re-run, then you'll need to make some aspect of your family life interesting to more people than your relatives. So if your children play soccer, instead of writing a blog about your children, write it about their soccer experience. Now you have a blog that's interesting to anyone involved with children's sport.
Or if you're teaching your child to read, write a blog about home-schooling. There's a big enough audience there for you.
Or if both you and your partner work, write about the difficulties of handling child-care. Now you have a blog that would appeal most American families.
The bottom line is that you can make money writing about your family... provided you write about other people's families too.
