Can I Live by Nick Cannon

Posted on June 11, 2005 08:23 PM by Joel Comm

In Our Midst makes notation of a very cool life-affirming song and music video by Nick Cannon. I'm not a huge rap fan. In fact, I would have to say today's popular music is pathetic. Nevertheless, if you are going to rap, it is refreshing to hear something other than tough gang-talk and lyrics degrading women.

Anyhow, Can I Live? is Nick's ode to his mother for leaving the abortion clinic and not going through with the ending of his life (as she initially intended). It's a powerful statement and one that every women who is considering abortion should see.

the song really touched me because when i was younger i was told that my mother was going to have an abortion when she was pregnant with me

  5. Chelsea Says:

I really love this song,I just wish it was out last year..

  6. Chuck Says:

I, too, enjoyed the video. It was nicely done. Great, life-affirming message.

I can also appreciate what's good about rap and hip-hop. But most of it's not music. It exists around music, yes. Sometimes talented musicians are involved in it. But it's just a rhythm track and a lot of preening, from my perspective.

I have no problem with it...except for the misogyny and the lack of innovation in most of it. I just don't consider it music.

I long for the day when the culture swings around and there's some value and appreciation put on good songwriting once again.

This song really means alot to because my aunt is considering abortion and I believe there is no reason to end anyone's life, it's not the child's fault! This song lets females worldwide know that abortion is not the answer!

  8. Dawn Says:

Nick's song is great because it personalizes the fact that anyone born after 1973 is fortunate to be alive...our mothers could have easily (and legally) aborted us! I, for one, am grateful my mother didn't exercies that "right." One third of our generation has been lost to abortion...we are the survivors.

I'd also like to offer a few words of encouragement to Chelsea, who wishes she had heard this song last year: Check out www.ramahinternational.org. It's a support group, started by a woman who had an abortion, to help other women who have had the same experience. And to Genesis, whose aunt is considering abortion: Visit www.optionline.org for info you can pass on to your aunt about counseling and support services that are available to pregnant women.

  11. Kristina Says:

this song really touched me. It made me realize how proud i am to have kept my daughter instead of aborting her. It just gave me a really big insight to life.

  12. Jay Says:

I really Love this song especially since it is what I am going through now. Personally my boyfriend does not want to keep the child. He feels It's too much weight on him. Telling me he wouldn't be able to support it. Yet I already have a child Im grateful for. And he does everything for him. And yet another one is too much. I don't ask or need anything. I just want to have my baby!

  13. Kaitlyn Says:

I heard this song debut the night i came home from an abortion. It is so powerful that it almost killed me that night. I like how nick actually didnt want to offend any one from his message but I feel no matter how much he denies that he is trying to make a political change he is.

  14. Mat Says:

    Wow...what a song.

  15. Vicky Says:

This song is very good! It actually has a meaning to it unlike most music.

  16. angel Says:

This is an incredible song from a crying soul. I too know what deep pangs come from the death of an innocent child through abortion. Nick Cannon, thankfully used his voice to spread an important message. Please pray for abortion to become illegal!
    Thank you for caring
