Bush Nominates Harriet Miers to Supreme Court

In a move that has brought criticism from both sides of the political aisle, President Bush has nominated White House lead counsel, Harriet Miers, to the highest court in the land.

Though Ms. Miers has no paper trail related to judicial decisions (as she is not a judge), she does appear to be a pro-life Christian, and one with definitive views towards the Constitution.

The NY Times printed an interesting article about her change from Democrat to Republican right around the time she became a Christian. I understand this change as it is exactly what happened to me. It's quite consistent to see people change their views on key social issues once they invite God into their lives.

I reserve judgment regarding this nominees credentials and ability to judge rightly. But I do look forward to the hearings. I'm sure she will be lambasted by some just because she IS a Christian and has a moral compass. And perhaps she will receive criticism from both sides for not having any judicial experience.

If she is indeed a strict Constitutional constructionist, the balance of the court will shift to mirror our country more realistically. Perhaps the pendulum will swing back to the other way and this Court would overturn Roe v. Wade, as well as other erroneous decisions handed down by the activist courts of the past few decades.

Bush hopes to have Miers confirmed before Thanksgiving, allowing her to be on the bench in time for key cases heading for the courtroom. It will be interesting to watch.

For in-depth analysis of Bush's nomination, and why he may once again prove to have outwitted his staunchest critics (as he does again and again), check out this article at The American Thinker.
