I'm wiped out. It's not that we did a LOT today, but combining the altitude with the activity seems to have taken its toll on me.
We started the day with a complimentary breakfast at the lodge. Bread, cereal, fruit, etc. Then it was off to the Steve Jones Stables for horseback riding. We scheduled a one hour scenic ride. All four of us are a bit more seasoned riders than we were a few years ago, but the terrain was the most challenging I have been on. We did a whole lot of going up and down the mountain which was a great deal of fun. My horse's name was Romeo. We thought it was funny that Zach got to ride a horse named Socrates, not to be confused with a certain Yorkshire Terrier who was left home on this trip. :-(
After the ride, we went back to the room to change clothes since it was another hot day. Then it was off to the Centennial Express chairlift, where we rode a little more than halfway up the mountain and enjoyed lunch at the Spruce Saddle Lodge. We were getting ready to head back down when the chairlifts were shut down due to lightning concerns. We waited about 1/2 hour before they decided to evacuate everyone from the mountain as storms were most definitely on the way. The view on the mountain was spectacular, with fabulous scenery surrounding us. Beaver Creek mountains to the south and west, Vail to the East and a huge mountain range to the north. The sky here is SO blue.. a very rich, saturated blue. We don't see skies like this in Oklahoma.
We road the lift down, bought a souvenier t-shirt for each of us in town and then back to the room for some down time. Mary took the kids to the pool for a bit while I caught up on my email.
Then Mary and I took in a massage at the Allegria Spa. It left us both feeling like jello. It was wonderful!
We went back to town for dinner and grabbed a pizza at the Blue Moose. The kids wanted to go ice skating (they have a year round ice skating rink), but it rained pretty hard and the rink was closed. Bummer. So, back to the room to blog the day. Tomorrow we depart for Keystone.
