It was fall of 2005 when I was scheduled to speak at Robert Puddy's Focus 4 the Future Internet marketing conference.
It was the first time I had spoken at an event and I was on a roster with Mike Filsaime, Gary Ambrose and Craig Perrine.
Yes, I was nervous.
But why should I be? My AdSense ebook was a huge success and my name had begun to spread in the Internet marketing community.
The night before I was scheduled to speak, the four of us were hanging out in a hotel room. Mike, Gary and Craig were helping me construct the offer I would make at the end of my presentation. They had some great input and I still remember Mike sitting at my computer putting his touch on my powerpoint.
It was at that time that he asked me, "Joel, what happened that you started making all this money with AdSense?"
I said, "Well, I cracked the code."
Mike replied, "That should be the title of your book!"
And so, "The AdSense Code" was born.
I knew that I wanted to turn my ebook into a traditionally published book and I had met a publisher who was willing to take it on.
But I needed some direction, not only for my book, but for my business at large.
Enter Glenn Dietzel.
They say that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
Well, Glenn appeared in my life at just the right time.
I wasn't sure how to manage the success I had and how I could leverage it to build a business and a brand that would endure.
I hired Glenn to be my first business coach, and his instruction helped provide me with the direction and motivation I needed to take my business to the next level.
As you now know, my book became a New York Times Best Seller and my career has definitely taken a turn for the better!
What was it that made the difference for me?
One undeniable fact is that I don't believe I would have nearly the success that I have without one thing...
The book!
I sold thousands of copies of my AdSense ebook for $97, but it was only when I turned the manuscript into a traditionally published book that I enjoyed the rise in credibility that I believe kicked it up a notch.
There's just something about publishing a book and becoming a recognized expert in your field that changes the whole game.
The good news is this. EVERYONE has a book in them! Yes, that means you.
And my friend, Glenn Dietzel, has just released a new book that can help you write YOUR best seller!
It's called "Author and Grow Rich"
In this book, Glenn will show you how to author a 100-page money-making book in less than 12 hours and become the recognized expert in your field.
This is solid content that everyone who has ever dreamed of authoring a book should read.
I recommend you visit Glenn's site today and find out more about "Author and Grow Rich". After all, if I can write a book, so can you. :-)

I believe this demonstrates how getting exposure in "old" media like books, newspapers, or TV can still really help internet entrepreneurs. There are a lot of people who still use these legacy media forms for their primary information sources. Being #1 on the New York Times still means something. I'll have to check this book out. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Joel,
Congrats on your success with The Adsense Code.
I'm finally listening to the Author and Grow Rich interview that Glen did with Alex Mandossian and realized that you used Glen to publish your book. I've been looking for someone to do my book for a while that won't take a year. I just don't have the time.
I going this route. Thanks!
BTW I'm one of your many friends on Facebook as well.
Take care
