Attending Industry Conferences

There are many activities one can partake in in order to grow their business. Whether engaging in the creative process, developing product and/or services or executing a long-term vision, all components are critical to success. However, I have found that one activity stands above the others in terms of long-term value to me personally, and to my business. Thus the title of my post.

Over the past several years, I have attended many conferences. Some of these conferences are of a general setting where anyone may attend for a fee. Others are related to the "secret society of which we do not speak" sort. Both are of tremendous value.

I have found networking with others in my industry to be the key to fueling success. The Internet industry is ripe with brilliant minds and endless opportunities. Spotting these opportunities and getting to know others who are equally excited about them can open a gateway to achieving your online goals.

Currently, I am at Affiliate Summit, a conference for merchants and affiliates to interact, create relationships and explore opportunities to serve each other's needs.

I get more out of these conferences than anything else I do. Where else can I sit down and strategize with the likes of Declan Dunn, Dave Taylor, Paul Colligan and Brad Fallon? Where else can I interact with my customers in such a personal environment? Where else better to make new friends and catch up with old friends?

If you are doing business online, I highly recommend you get plugged in to at least conference group. You will learn a great deal at workshops and general sessions. But more imporantly, you will have an opportunity to network and expand your sphere of relationships. As someone once said, "It's not what you know, but who you know."
