Amazon on iPhone

Posted on December 3, 2008 09:14 AM by Joel Comm

I've been a huge fan of Amazon.com since Bezos launched the site out of his garage.

When the pundits said "It'll never work", I said they were clueless. Of course it will work.

I spend more money on Amazon then any other online store, as do many of you.

I'm also a huge fan of my iPhone and I've used it to shop at Amazon many times.

I joined Amazon Prime a couple years back. For something like $50/year, I get everything upgraded to free 2-day shipping. Worth it.

Anyhow, Amazon has finally released their iPhone application!

Since the last app I downloaded was the Zippo lighter (fun to wave in the air while playing Rock Band), I thought I should grab something useful.

The Amazon Mobile app downloads and installs quickly.

Yes, you can shop and buy stuff easily.

But the coolest feature is "Amazon Remembers."

Basically, you take a picture of a product with your iPhone camera and upload it to Amazon.

It becomes associated with your account, appears on your wishlist and is seen by people who will try to indentify if the product is available for purchase on Amazon.

It would be nice if it automatically detected the product, but I'll be interested to see how the human element handles the photos they will get.

I'm going shopping...

UPDATE! 15 minutes later I received an email notifying me that my item had been found. It is linked in my Amazon account and shows up on my home page.

Pretty cool stuff, huh?

Comments? Have at it...

I'm going to go take a photo of a gold bar with "Free" written on it and upload it. Hope AMZN emails me too

But how would I go about designing my own iPhone app? (or outsourcing to a developer on eLance?). How are apps sold for the iPhone, is there a marketplace, and I thought I heard something about Google Android apps also, isn't there a marketplace for independent sellers/product developers?

As an affiliate of both Amazon.com (http://www.booxnow) and AT&T, I could not be more thrilled!

I buy a ton of books every year at Amazon and give plenty as gifts as well.

Plus, now that I have both affiliations listed on our shopping page, we'll be able to increase our revenue, thus being able to donate even more to military charities. What a great time of year! Happy Holidays, everyone!

    Best,

    -K
