Ain't that swell

Most of America has probably already heard about the hazing that took place at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, IL. But I'm a little slow on the uptake and just picked up on the story today. GBN is my alma mater. Gee, I'm so proud. Oh, wait a second. When I said proud, I meant to say "sick to my stomach".

I am deeply concerned that the hazing events in Northbrook occurred, but even more disappointed that there is not more outrage about this sort of behavior among young people. The governor of IL as well as other leaders should set an example by speaking publicly against this grosteque event. All students who attended should be suspended. Those that actively participated should be expelled, tried as adults, and their names released. Does any college who has admitted these senior women really want this sort of student on their campus? For those that watched and did nothing... none of you had the good sense to use your cell phone and call the police? And lastly this incident is no less serious than the Rodney King incident in Los Angeles in the last decade. How can we wonder how tragic events like Columbine occurred and think that this sort of event is not related and or leads to this sort of behavior?
