A Memorial Day to remember

Posted on May 26, 2003 10:42 PM by Joel Comm

What a great day to be an American! I want to personally say "thank you" to those of you who are veterans or are currently serving in our bold and proud armed services. I don't take my freedom lightly and am grateful for those who have sacrificed much for so many. As I was driving down I-35 today, there was a uniformed gentleman on the overpass at 15th street, waving an American flag and saluting passers-by. I felt American pride swell up as I saluted him and honked my horn while zipping by at 75 mph. What a country!

Unfortunately, the day was not all rosy. Apparantly, we are having server trouble with two of our three servers. One of them (the one this blog resides on) went out for no apparant reason. As it turns out, the power supply went pffft. While I was there, the blasted thing began smoking! So I replaced with a temporary fix and will be installing a new power supply tomorrow. On top of that, another server is having hard disk problems. Sigh... it never ends.

Thank you very much. I am a Veteran of Foreign War (Desert Storm and Bosnia), and your appreciation really means a lot; more than you think. I, too, want to thank all of my brothers and sisters, both former and present. Your sacrifices are not in vein.

Your post reminded me of an experience I had a few years ago. I jotted it down on my weblog, if any of you would like to take a minute to read it.

We live in strange times, but someday I think we will look back on all of this and marvel at how crazy it was. God, I hope so. I sure wouldn't want this insanity to become the norm.
