A dot.com story, Part VIII: Resistance

Back to the story... just jumping in? Catch up here...

You'll forgive me if the order of events is not completely accurate. Around this time, Ken and I met with an attorney who shall be named Hal. We sat down with Hal to pick his brain and discuss raising capital.

Essentially, we shared our over-inflated plans to take over the world via our little web site. We had put together a business plan reflecting the zillions of dollars we would be making over the next few years. Realistically, we figured we could bring in $10,000/month after a few months, based on advertising figures we had seen on similar sites. Ok, so we were clueless.

Hal listened to our schpiel and said something like this....

Boys, ain't nobody gonna give you any money.

Humph. We left the meeting feeling a bit deflated, but not discouraged. Hal didn't really know squat about the Internet (as if we did?), and we would pursue an investor just the same. All we really needed was someone to get us going.

The web site was now online and we discovered a young graphic artist named Robby Heimer. Rob sat down at his Macintosh and designed a new front page image map for us.

Ah, the high-tech look was coming into focus. Robby also redesigned our logo.

The map and logo were to be the first ones to appear on the web site. It was hip and cool, even if we weren't.

to be continued...
